I don't trust anything but GI, and aluminum GI type. I am sure the others work fine. So do mine, have since 1973.

I only have about 9 AR magazines so this is a list of companies I don't really know. I have a couple of PMAGs and the rest are issued magazines I was issued and separated with.

The USGI aluminum mags have worked fine for me. I like them best because non AR rifles that accept AR mags will usually take USGI mags, but not always Magpuls, Lancers, etc. Additionally, you can score deals in which the USGI mags are $6-8 each.

For now I only have pmags. Eventually I want to pick up some AL USGI mags, but every time I set aside some money for that I end up running across good prices on pmags and just get more of those.

I bought a bunch of MFT (Mission First Tactical) mags on sale. I wasn't expecting much, but they have worked really well. I haven't done any extreme torture tests, but they are holding up just as well as my PMAGS.

Maybe add MFT to the poll options?

Not listed but I am using a Daniel defense for my #1 mag for 3 gun and action rifle matches,

I hav done been using it for a few months as the primary mag to T&E and it works just as boringly as a pmag. Down here in Florida if you drop the mag on a reload you will probably have some sand in it when you retrieve it, one range I go to pretty much dry beach sand.

The DD has handles it fairly well, pick it up, shake it out, refill the mag and go

Just have Magpul and GI (aluminum, all with Magpul followers). I like the GI mags because I can get more loaded ones in a .50 cal ammo can then I can with the Magpuls. Plus, the GI is the standard dimension so every vest, pocket, mag device, etc will easily accept GI mags, whereas sometime the larger outer dimension of the Magpuls can cause a tight or no fit. But, Magpuls are also proven very reliable and durable and they don't snag or cut when being tossed around. I use 20 rounders or either type at the range for bench shooting and the 30s for plinking and other off hand shooting. Both types have proven very reliable.

Interesting topic.

I have exclusively 30-round Magpul PMags of various generations right now. The PMags are available, economical, and at this point, pretty well established. I have mostly Gen IIs with windows, but there is a mix of Gen II and III, with and without windows. I prefer the Gen IIs over the Gen IIIs because the over-travel stop on the Gen IIIs tends to snag in pouches, in my experience. Don't really have anything against other mags. I am just generally pretty loyal to something as cheap and available, and reliable for me as the PMag.

Magpul must pump those things out. I know people are snatching them up, but there are still a few assorted PMags available in all of my local stores long after most of the other mags have dried up. And a lot of the time it is the same thing on the internet. I just received a ten-pack of 30-round Gen II with window for 120-something shipped from The Mag Shack. https://www.themagshack.com/product-category/rifle-magazines/ar-15-magazines/

Judging by the results of the poll, I am not the only one.

Pretty much PMags, both Gen II and III (I do like the windows), but I've got a bunch of Troy Battle Mags, Hexmags and Daniel Defense that have all been perfect (and I put a lot of 5.56 downrange quite often) ...

We've got a lot of good choices available these days. Still got a bunch of GI C-Product mags with the green and gray followers that have always worked.

Left a few troy battle mags full for several years and went to shoot them last weekend. Every round jammed when trying to strip a new one off the top. I was pissed.

I have 12 Magpul Gen 2's all in Olive Drab. Seems Magpul has recently gotten away from offering all the different colors.

I also wish Magpul would offer different colors for their AR mags. I have 30 Gen 3 30 round mags and I can not quickly identify what ammunition I have loaded in them. I dig around in the ammo can or range bag until I find the one I am looking for. I have them all numbered but it is easier just to look at the top round in the mag (except when the feed lip cover is on them). I am considering wrapping duck tape around them since duck tape comes in so many different colors now.

I like Hexmag idea of the colored hex in the baseplate.

Magpul makes baseplates in the Sand color. You can easily dye them to any color. Or get the sand color mags and dye the whole mag.

Funny
Last week I found a few articles on this. It’s pretty cool the artistic things some folks are doing. I know you have a few cool ARs.

Everyone seems to love Magpul P-Mags, but I have had issues with them, at least the 30 round, Gen 2 version. I have had about eight of the Gen 2 , thirty round AR/M4 P-Mags, two with windows and the others without. One of the window mags and three of the non-window Gen 2 mags would fall out of the receiver of my AR under recoil. The other window mag and other three non-window Gen 2 P-mags worked fine. This problem persisted even after I replaced and repeatedly adjusted the magazine catch.

It may be that my receiver is slightly out of spec, but I measured the width of these Gen 2 P-mags with a caliper up where the slide catch lock recess was and found significant variation, even though the mags had seen little use. The wider mags worked fine. The narrower mags fell out.

I have since bought only Gen 3 P-Mags (when it comes to Magpul magazines) and I have had no trouble with them. These seems to have stronger, reinforced side walls and I suspect they flex less during recoil. I have a number of 30 round, 20 round, and 10 round Gen 3 P-Mags and they have all worked fine. I prefer the 20 or 10 round mags for three position shooting. The shorter mags work much better shooting prone. The 10 round magazines allow the support hand to be placed directly beneath the magazine well which is the balance point of the rifle.

In addition to Magpul mags, I have a couple of aluminum GI mags which I have not used much, and several Lancer magazines with metal feed lips. The Lancers are by far my favorite and I would probably use nothing else if they were less expensive.

All Magpull P-Mags. My FN-15 came with one and I added 24 of them. 8 of them are strapped two for and loaded with 28 rounds each. Hard to get a 30 round mag stuffed into a AR-15 with one in the chamber. My full 30's have a red piece of tape on the bottom to identify them as First Mag.
