What are the longest distances in competition

What are the longest distances shot in competitions in rifle & pistol?

Are there long range competitions with muzzel loaders?

There are 1000 yard bench rest matches for rifles. Long range handgun metallic silhouette goes out to 200 meters (about 220 yards). There may be longer range stuff I'm not aware of.

Competitors routinely shoot AR's at 1,000 yards prone at Camp Perry, Ohio.

Iron sighted Palma Matches at 1,000 yards have been held for over 100 years at various locations around the world.

North South Skirmish Association shoots muskets at 50-200 yards.

I believe there is a new group that shoots .50 BMG at distances of 1 mile.

I'm still tring to shoot 300 yards bench with a scope

I don't think anyone says the AR-15 is inaccurate. Especially the Camp Perry guns.

However, getting a bullet that weighs less than 100 grains to stay on course for a thousand yards....that's impressive in of itself.

Rifle prone to 1,000 Yards

In my State Big bore Championships and as a National Guardsman I shot off hand at 200 yards, sitting, kneeling at longer ranges and prone at 1,000 yards. The bull was three feet wide and I shot my issue garaqnd and issue ammo. in the 1950's age 17 while in high school.
