I meant what I said, high capacity, handguns with extended magazines. The XD-40 factory magazine holds 12 rd mine have extensions to bring that to 16. My Remington R1 Limited (2011) factory magazines hold 16 rds, my tuned and extended magazines for USPSA Limited division hold 19 insertable on a closed slide 20 rds open slide.
Then you are using leftist gun grab speech. If you are using aftermarket extended capacity, well that's aftermarket and not what the gun was designed for but certain outliers do exist, like the M17 and M18 with their 21's.

I'm playing the long game here.

You might be taking the leftist gun grabber language at bit serious in a thread about funnest handgun types.

Life is hard, you'll get over it... or you won't.

Ah, you are personally attacking me instead of my message, life is hard indeed here for at least one of us now.

Not sure where in my post I personally attacked you, point it out and I will be happy to apologize. My reply was to say that I though you were taking the critique of my supposed "leftist gun grabber language" a bit serious in the context of this thread (a thread about fun guns). My reply was in no way trying to make an assessment of your character since I have no way to assess that given our limited interactions.

Either way our little disagreement here has certainly sucked the fun out of a light hearted thread and I will apologize to the rest of the thread for my part in that.

XD-40 Tactical. I bought this my first summer shooting USPSA way back in 2005. No one was making magazine wells or extended magazines for the XD line back then so I designed and CNC machine my own. The Extension took the factor 12rd magazine and make them 16 rd. I shot this gun mostly in Limited-10 but it was also use as my handgun at 2-gun and 3-gun matches where I had to bump up to Limited (no L-10 in 3-gun) even though 16 rds was barely competitive. I don't shoot this much in competition any more but when I retired it, it had nearly 40,000 rds through it.

In 2007 I fully realized you could shoot revolvers in USPSA and I was hooked when I got to shoot with a revolver shooter on my squad at a match. USPSA big draw to me was reloading on the clock, part of your score, and what better way to do that but with the limited capacity of a revolver. I picked this S&W 610 up late 2007 for a deal. I ran this Bianchi cup holster and moonclips server, North Mountain Moonclip Server. Bought the server from the guy that made them when I meet him while working as staff at the Area 7 match in 2008 (IIRC). It has had several improvement since this early production unit.

I shot the above two guns interchangeable until 2012 when I decided to focus all my efforts on Revolver division. I retired the 610 to become my hunting revolver and bought a 625.

This is the single most fun revolver (or possible handgun in general) I have ever owned. After years of doing reloading with the 610 with 40S&W, the short fat round nose 45 ACP on moonclip was like someone had a shopvac on the front of the cylinder sucking in the reloads. I can't tell you how much fun I had with that 625, beating the filthy bottom feeders with my noble round gun!

But then rules changed in early 2014 and playing the equipment race I bough a S&W 627.

But I bought it early when the rule change was just a rumor. So I spent the summer of 2013 shooting my 625 in Revolver division and my 627 in Production. I managed to get a B-classification in Production division with a Revolver which was always amusing. I took the 627 to the Revolver Nationals in 2014. That was my first and only trip to a USPSA national match.

A few years later I wanted to switch back to the Semi-auto. I picked up a deal on an early Remington R1 Limited (some of the parts still say Para Ordinance on them).

Thankfully Remington did one right thing and fixed the magazines. Because of the long taper Para used on their double stack magazines you could never quiet get the capacity the SV and STI could. The new R1 Limited magazine bodies with a good extension ( Taylor Freelance) would reliable get 19rds in it and that was competitive with most of the other Limited guns. After years of shooting revolvers in competition the learning curve coming back to a high capacity semi-auto was more daunting than I had envisioned. But it was a fun climb, and moonclips still rule!

For me it is almost easiest to go with favorite individual guns vs. favorite categories.

For me, my four contenders fall into four different categories. I'll go with one auto and one revolver (depending on my mood on any particular day, I might pick two revolvers or two autos though).

It is very close...

In the revolvers, I'm going with a medium frame .357mag revolver with a 3" or 4" barrel. Easy to shoot and cheaper with .38spl, you can shoot it all day. Lots of loud, recoiling drama when you want it with full house magnums, but it is big and heavy enough to handle them without beating you up. I actually like .41mag a little better, but they are expensive and hard to get, and I sold my .41mag gun more than 10 years ago (though on just fun and nothing else, the S&W 57 may beat the medium framed .357mag).

In autos, I'm close between my CZ 75B and a full sized steel 1911. I love my 75B, it may be my current favorite, but I haven't had a full sized all steel 1911 in over 10 years. The smile my compact (officer sized) RIA 1911 put on my face the other day has me thinking that if my experience with a full sized 1911 was more recent, it may beat out the 75B.

That was one well-thought out post, but you got sidetracked with your competition history and didn't answer the question. ;) (though I assume you voted)

As it stands now, the big bore single action revolver and small bore autos have a convincing lead.

I'm not surprised about the small bore auto; most of us love 22LRs, and autos are easier to clean and can shoot more rounds without needing cleaning.

I AM a bit surprised that big bore SA revolvers beat out all big and medium bore revolvers and autos.

Anything surprise you guys in the poll results so far?

I did vote and one was Big bore double action revolvers (Medium bore automatics the other) but I have always wonder if the 45 ACP revolver really counted as big bore. To me big bore revolver are 44 Caliber and bigger but there is also a certain "power" level that comes with the name Big bore revolver that 45 ACP does not seem to satisfy.

I voted for big and small bore SAA types. Because accurate and sexy looking handguns are what matter! LOL
