What are we thinking about the Ruger Precision Rifle?

i've only handled and shot one, but i've been very impressed. for the money, nothing comes close.

only downside would be your caliber choice. unless you have a really good reason for 308 (like, you get free ammo from your job) i'd go with the creedmoor

Ive got other 30 cal stuff I load so I'd rather not throw another caliber in there.

Thats a given. Apparently they didnt smack your left hand enough with a ruler in school.

Well, they did it enough that I write (poorly) with my right hand.

An AR-style bolt gun is even more lefty unfriendly that a traditional one. Your left hand has farther to travel to let go of the pistol grip and then reach over the receiver.

I would also like to see a few more reviews on the rifle, it looks and sounds promising, but I have yet to see very much commentary on it from real world experience.

I talked to my dealer. Apparently his cost is around $875 plus shipping to him so $950 out the door but supply is tight and he can't get one. MSRP is around $1400 but cheapest I'm finding one is $1275 ish plus shipping. Don't know if I want to go that high .

I'm surprised at the lack of reviews and range reports from members who got their hands on one early. I recall that there were several

Same story from my dealer. Told me he would sell me one in the low 900s but he cant get one. They are all "allocated" for the time being what ever that means

I am interested in getting a look at one.

My local gun store got one and they immediately put it up for auction on their web site. Sales person said that it was a very "in demand" item and they were going to let the person "with the deepest pockets" get it.

I put the ammo that I had in my hand back and started to leave. The sales person asked what I was doing. I told him that my business is very "in demand" and that I was going to go on the internet and find the store "with the deepest pockets" to earn my business.

Its a very limited release item that wholesalers only get a few of which are them "allocated" to a few dealers based on past orders and future orders . Those dealers get them for $850 +/- ish . The current price on them right now seems to be in the $1300- $1400 range whch is all supply and demand at this point. If Ruger floods the market and quenches demand the price will go down. If not the price will stay the same or just drop slightly. Its a hot item so I don't see it dropping quick any time soon.

Ive got a new SIG 762Ti silencer I'm dying to run on a .308 bolt gun so I might have to bite the bullet and pay the going rate. Looks like a lot of gun for the money.

They're incredibly rare at anything below MSRP. Wait a few years and everyone will have them and they'll go down in price. Look at the Ruger LCP. They used to sell easily for $300-325. Now they're $200-250 and they dealers can hardly give them away because everyone has them. I love capitalism!

Well i dont know if i am going to wait a few years. I may just buy a heavy barreled Savage 12 6.5 cm or ? Instead. We'll see what happens in the next few months with the Rugers.

i do it the other way, grip the heck out of the rifle with the left hand and pull it in tight and use the right hand to cycle the bolt.
on the other hand, the only clover leafs i'm familiar with are the ones that are good at replenishing soil nitrogen.
totally agree that the southpaw population continues to be either highly discriminated against or totally marginalized from both sides of the political spectrum- ironic given the number of presidential lefties.

I looked on the Ruger site for an idea of what it is. My first reaction was "That's a lot of money for an ugly rifle!" I'm old, I like wood and steel.

It is probably very effective within its field. But I anticipate no more shots at 1500 yards. In fact, I'm not sure of any ranges within a day's drive to do so for fun.

I have a couple rifles in .308 Winchester. They do everything I need for a rifle in that power level.

My taste in buying rifles are typically bolt guns, preferably in the blue steel and wood persuasion. Older, collectable rifles specifically.

I am curious as to how this rifle shoots. For those who desire such an arm, be my guest.

Its actually a remarkable bargain for the type of rifle it is. Build one like yourself that and your looking at more like $3000. Even the closest competitor in the genre is well over $2000 with most much more.. Is it blued steel and wood? Nope. if you like that sort of thing thats great. Theres plenty of those out there. Its a utility rifle that out of the box will hold well under an MOA out to 850 yards.

I took the plunge and ordered one. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a folding stock and the ability to attach a silencer and modular platforms. I paid the going price. Came in well under MSRP but it wasnt anywhere close to dealer price. Might take a few years for the price to drop down and it wasnt worth the wait.

Once the 600 yard range opens up in the spring I'll do some accuracy testing and post the results but from what Ive seen of reports online I would expect to be a bad shooter.

Had my .308 since September. My range is limited to 200 yards max. But it does a heck of a job for the $979.00 it cost. Been shooting Privi 168 gr. HPBT rounds. Consistent dime sized groupings. Added a JP muzzle brake and swapped the grip for a Hogue. Like a softer grip rather than the stock smooth plastic.

I finally got a scope for my 6.5. Budget demanded an SWFA 10x, a Black Friday deal. I'm a pretty inexperienced shooter compared to a lot of guys but I can hold my own. Most all my shooting is at steel plates and 300 yards with this setup is boringly easy. 500 yards (range limit) is fun but again, sort of easy. This rifle makes me want to find a longer range just so I can stretch it out. I haven't shot for groups aside fom sighting in but I can already tell this is a very accurate and consistent gun; I can go through a whole mag steady firing without any obvious POI change (that's a 20 rnd PMAG btw). The holidays have really put a damper on my shooting time.

I doubt that you would be disappointed. I had a M12BVSS in .243 Win. that would shoot 0.122" groups at 100 yards consistently with its favorite hand load - as long as I stayed off the coffee, that is.

I sold it a couple years ago in a weak moment and have regretted it ever since. :banghead:
