What are you shooting at your next range trip?

My 180 grain cowboy 45LCs are mellow, but I have some 250 grain that a box of 50 made my hand hurt for half a day (shot out the Bond Arms). My stock of .357 ammo is all 158 grain other than a handfull of 125 grain HPs. I would pit the 158 grain .357s against the .250 grain .45LCs.

Thinking I may as well also take the Charter Arms Bulldog .45 LC with me also as it is a lot of fun to shoot.

Correction, now that I just bought a 1911 I have to take that to the range, so it will be the Charles Daly Field 1911 and the Bond Arms Derringer with the .357 barrel.

The next chance I get to hit the outdoor range, I'm slinging some magnums through the Highway Patrolman. Then fine tuning the Romeo2 on the P229 Legion.

Come to think of it, I haven't had a rifle range trip since before the pandemic.

I went to the range twice this past weekend and ended up shooting a 9m.m. BERETTA 92D Brigadier, SIG 225 9m.m.(the original one, not the fake 239 based one) and a SIG 229R DAK (double action KELLERMAN model in .357 SIG.

Next week, who knows!

Jim

My LR308 again, just did another load development for it. I'm trying to find what this rifle really likes before choosing the one to rule them all and start to mass produce.

Going to take out my G45 again as well as my 43X to adjust it's replacement night sights better. Probably will be taking my SBR out too, I want to zero the new Magpul MBUS 3's for it.

Well, I promised to give myself six months of shooting my S&W 617 for Steel Challenge and did pretty well with it. Now it's back to my Ruger Mark IV 22/45 for RFPI.

It's been years since I've shot with iron sights. I feel more comfortable with a dot but in the scheme of things it's time to retrospect origins. This Mark IV has a few upgrades which should make it a joy to shoot.

I started out by installing the Volquartsen Accurizing Kit and VQ Bolt. The kit improved the trigger pull from 6 pounds that felt like I was pulling through the safety every time to a crisp 1 pound 7 ounces that breaks like a glass rod.

Pre and Overtravel are at a minimum and I've fired a few hundred rounds to make sure everything is working correctly. Adding the bolt was a no brainer. With new firing pin and extractor this gun just runs perfectly and is easy to clean by just taking a paper towel to the internals. I also use MPro-7.

I put a Carolina Crusher Compensator to help speed up splits. Many think that the compensator is not needed on a .22 but looking at my times, that few hundredths of a second between shots adds up to a lot over 200 rounds. The CC doesn't require much effort to clean. I'll bet I've shot over 4000 rounds without having to take a chisel to it or use The Dip.

From Tandemkross I picked up a Cornerstone Safety and a Striplin Thumb Rest. Both help my keep my hands the same for every stage. I did have to use my Dremel to get the gun to go into the Tandemkross holster.

Grips are from StonerCNC.Com and are very comfortable. The checkering is perfect for a good purchase on the frame. I also like the variety of colors available.

I was all set to go to the local indoor range for some practice today but I swear, for the first time in 40 years I talked myself out of going. I just wasn't in the mood and thougth I'd just be waisting ammo. Even though I'm only using CCI Blazers, they don't cost a lot, I don't want to just fling lead downrange without learning something.

So, everything is in my shooting bag waiting for next week.

Did you borrow your wife's gun, or is that a Star Wars prop? :D

Just ribbin' you a bit. 'sounds like a great shooter that would spoil me if I ever tried it.

Wish I could load up a shooting bag for a week, but I've got kids in my house. The 16 year-old girl, with her horrible judgment and questionable boyfriend scare me a lot more than the 10 year-old girl with her excellent judgment. (may she not lose it when she hits the teens!)

The range I go to is closed now til Jan.1.
When it opens again I will be shooting the usual 9mm, 38spec., and some larger rifles and shotguns.
But, UNTIL then. IT,S 22LR TIME.
I have permission to do all the shooting I want in a field and woods across the road. I have several old rifles and a couple handguns. All 22. Including a Remington 550-1 and over a thousand rounds needing to be shot.
So, For the next 2 months it's 22 time.

Made plans to go shooting this week with a friend. I'm just going to be using my EDC because well, that's what I'm carrying for an everyday carry so ya, 'nuff said.

Love shooting my .22's anytime!
Next range trip: .45 Colt, 39A and maybe a 20ga. Desert shoots have a bunch of possiblities. And all fun!

Local range offers "free rental"* for voters on Election Day. So I'll be shooting whatever on the shelf that looks interesting.

*Free rental but you have to buy their ammo to shoot in their guns.
OK, if they don't have a centerfire worth the ammo, I'll shoot a .22. That is what I will take in anyhow.

Well, I got a look at the new SW Equalizer.

The local store/range already had a couple in, one with optic, one with irons. They would not put a new product out for rental but I got to fondle and gymnasticate it.

I kind of like it, reasonable size for a light holster CCW. It handles somewhat similar to my Plastic M&P .22 Compact.
The trigger is decent, an enclosed hammer SAO, with little take-up and kind of a rolling break, better than the .22.
It has a prominent thumb safety, very like the .22's. I did not know it was available without, I think it needs one.
It takes Shield Plus magazines. The 13 round gives me ample pinkie space.

Can't do much about the flutes and toots but you can't see them through the sights.
I would sure prefer it to a CSX.

I don't get calling it "Equalizer", that is an old Colt tradition:

"Be not afraid of any man;
No matter what his size;
When danger threatens, call on me—
And I will equalize!”

It's going to be clear but cold this week, but I hope to get out anyway. The plan:

Ruger Blackhawks in 357 and 44 mag - 25 yard offhand practice with a variety of handloads
S&W 624 44 special - 25 yard offhand practice with a variety of handloads
S&W Model 18 22lr - general 15 & 25 yard shooting with SV ammo
Glock 19X - general 15 and 25 yard target shooting with FMJ handloads
M1 Garand - CMP Rack grade - general blasting with handloaded M2 Ball. I have several Garands and a lot of ammo and realized I better get with the program or my kids will have all the fun
Anschutz 1712 Featherweight - 25yd off hand practice for the RFC offhand postal match

Shot my Charles Daly 1911 Field .45 ACP today. Pretty much flawless on ball ammo, had one jam might have been limp wristed as the beaver tail was beating my hand so I tried to compensate by holding a little lower on the grip. Then I ran some HP and was getting a lot of jams. That is with the stock 8-round magazine. I will try a Ed Brown 7-round magazine next week and see if it does any better, but I think it needs more ball ammo to really break it in before I do HP.

I did not take the Bond with the new .38/.357 barrel as I wanted to focus on the 1911. But hope to take both next week.

Hope to get my sister and her husband to the range tomorrow. If so she will get to shoot a Rossi RB22 and Beretta Bobcat while her husband will shoot a Ruger 10/22 carbine and a Tomcat.

Close your eyes and repeat with all your heart, "I do believe I see a wood frame basic 10/22. I do believe I see a wood frame basic 10/22."

I’m going to take my wife’s* new S&W 22 Compact and try it with some other ammo; CCI bulk did not deliver the expected accuracy. I’ll make sure the barrel nut is tight this time, too.

Probably run another box of 45 Colt handloads through my Cimarron P.

It’s also time to run some rounds through my current P365 carry gun. 115 gr factory ball.

* She bought it with her own money!
