Zombie thread
IT LIVES!!!!!!!!!!

This is the oldest thread I could find where people were listing what they use for daily home defense. I would love to hear if you are still using the same gun and if not, why?

Thanks.

I would like to point out that this thread is 8 years old and I was looking for updates from people that had posted that long ago...

Depends what I am closest to, what I'm carrying, time of day/night. If I am asleep and am woken up, then it's not a semi-auto. It's a S&W Model 13, 357 magnum. If I'm not asleep, then it could be my SigSauer P220 45acp or my CZ-82 9mm makarov. Depends on which one I'm carrying. If I'm downstairs, and I hear or notice a problem, it wouldn't be uncommon for me to grab my remmington 870 12 gauge with 4 buck or 00 buck. If I'm working in the garage, on one of my cars, etc... then it's most likely going to be my Hi-Point C-9 9mm. Guess I'm saying that I'm fortunate enough to not have just one gun, and which one I use depends on the situation and scenario.

Pistol-wise, it's my XD Tactical .45 acp. I keep it with me around the house. Next to the bed is my Mossberg 930 SPX

BHP replica Kareen and my PM9 is hidden in the office desk... PM9 is my primary carry but the BHP gets a lot of love in the winter ...

We live on a island in WA state, so I guess it's a moat. If were ever invaded I’ll reach for my P90 45acp. Like the man said it’s just plain silly to shoot twice.

DW CBOB 1911

Why?
It's been 100% reliable. I'm comfortable enough with the controls that I feel I could handle it safely and get it into action quickly even if groggy and/or adrenaline-charged. It fires a large and well-respected defense caliber that is also lower pressure and therefore not as loud/bright as 9mm or .40 or my other favorite defense caliber, .357 magnum (which I'd rather not fire at night and indoors if avoidable). It's also the only handgun I own with night sights, so that makes the decision pretty easy, I guess.

Only real drawback is capacity, I suppose. However, a spare magazine, a wife with her own HD gun, a shotgun within easy reach, and a large dog for the home invader to contend with ought to limit the need for a whole heck of a lot of ammo.

lol Zombie thread, thats good!

Phased plasma rifle with a 40 watt range. Really wanna find out sneak through my window...lol!

Okay Kimber Custom II with 185 JHP Cor-Bon's on board.

It depends on what room I'm in but seeing how you only ask about "autos":
Living room, .45 ACP M1911A1.
Bedroom, .45 ACP M1911A1.

Why? because I only need to shoot once.

Keep several guns within a couple of steps of my bed. My SIG P228 is my favorite though.

CZ75 SP-01

-It's never jammed on me
-It's quite accurate
-It has night sights
-It has rails for my flashlight
-It's a big, mean looking gun that holds lots of bullets - hopefully the sight of it will scare the baddie away and I won't have to zap anyone

That said, I'd like to pick up a railed 1911 for the big bullet option.

Hmmm....I have a black Louisville slugger baseball bat right under my bed and CZ-P01 with 124 gr JHP's on my night stand. I like options. :)

Right now, I use an XD45ACP. Why? Capacity, reliability and the fact that .45ACP makes for a very effective HD load indeed. Also, the local PD will, more than likely, take your weapon for an undetermined amount of time if you are involved in an HD shooting investigation. Its therefore better to lose (temporarily) a $490 gun vs. an $850+ gun. Besides, I don't care if my HD gun is "sexy." After all, I'm betting no assailant would care either!

I should say, however, that the 12 ga is my main "go to."

I have changed my home defense guns since this thread started way back when.
I originally lived in Queens and only had a shotgun registered to me so thas was my go to gun.

Now that I moved to PA I keep the shotgun in my bedroom closet, Glock 26 with fifteen round mag in nightstand and a P3AT in my pocket. I swap out the P3AT for the G26 and ten round mag when I leave the house.
