i have a glock 9mm mag plan with me and wife caring glock 26,,, each of us use glock 34 for idpa, we have the crimson lazer on the 26's,,, dawson fiber sights on the 34's,,, and the keltech sub 2000 with more glock mags ready to go,,,, the sub 2000 gets shot every so often,,, for such a cheap feeling gun,, the sub 2000 runs well with no issues,, all factory mags

usually keep the para ordnance 1911 on the nightstand loaded with 230 gr ball ammo.

i live in the country with no kids so i dont worry about over penetration.

night gun

For me its either a CZ P-01 with n.s. or my Springfield EMP 9MM, also n.s. Why? Light recoil so reaquire target faster and RELIABILITY!

I have a SA 1911 coverted to .45 Super. I want a lot of thump if I ever have to use it.
I have not had to use it and with any luck at all it will stay that way.

Pistol......Hmmm Shotgun!

Hmmm. I will say this : Under my pillow is a Taurus PT58 .380 and under my wifes pillow is a Smith .38..............

With that said the first thing I would pick up for a home defense situation would be the Mossberg Pistol Grip 20 Guage beside my bed.

I am kinda surprised how few people here posted a shotgun. I am a handgun lover myself, and CC everyday.

But then I also have a home full of kids and other people.....so the last thing that I would want is to kill or injure one of them as they are obviously on the other side of the wall that a BG would/could be standing at.

Its just the way I think......9mm 10mm .38 .357 .40 .44 .45 all these could/would go through BG & a wall and could injure/kill some one.

But I also note that a self home defense situaution will never be a perfect scenario, but I still like the shotgun thing! I think it is a better home defense choice than about any pistol.

I have a long house so, in the bedroom, it's my Para Ordnance Tac-Four LDA with 14 rounds of 230gr Golden Sabre and in the office, my Colt Series 80 Combat Commander with the same loads. Here they are:

Sig 229 with Corbon Match .357SIG inside, near me. Witness Elite Match 9mm with 9BPLE inside, near her.

I keep it simple, my EDC is also does duty as HDW. I have it with me or close by in the house, on my night stand is a mid size Mag-Lite in case I'm dealing with a bump in the night...

Whichever of my two main guns is closer ...

So either a Kahr E9 or a PT911.

Why? Because those are my main shooters and as such I shoot them best.

A tried and true fullsize Kimber 1911 is closest to the pillow. A couple different versions of 12 gauge boom sticks and a .357 lever are within a few feet of that.

XD40 w/ Surefire on my side (for the moment)

Glock 19 on the wife's side (her favorite)

Glock 21SF w M3 illuminator, loaded with Gold dots and Hydrashoks, Glock's utter reliability and 45 ACP

Glock 17 9mm

Because it works, it's what I have, and it's what I practice with.

9mm makes practice cheap and enjoyable.

Glock makes maintenance cheap and enjoyable.

Not too complicated for me, I guess. ;)

I must be old and old school, mine is S&W Model 66 in stainless, with the 357 mag. i don't have to hit center mass and the noise she makes in small places will them have messing their pants.

in my bedside nightstand drawer....

i keep my Sig ST P220 loaded with Gold Dot's .45 cal. 230gr. HP's.
Under the bed i have my SKS with plastic folding stock loaded with a 20 rd. clip of Wolf Military 123 gr. HP ammo.

Why?

I don't trust anything smaller than a .40 cal. as far as real stopping power.I also have a Siggie in that cal.[2240 SigPro]
The Sig is for indoor threats, and the Commie Carbine is for outdoor threats.
Two legged and four legged !

I have a S&W 5906 with Crimson Trace Lasergrips. I have the gun for home-defense as it has always been a reliable functioning firearm, shoots true to POA, with the lasergrips I can easily identify where I am aiming with 2 young kids in the house, and I like the ability of the DA/SA trigger pull.

Bushmaster M4a3 Gas Piston 5.56 & HK45c with Glaser Saftey Slugs and Lawmen HP. I was using a USP .40 till I saw the special on Home defense rounds on the sportsmans channel.

They did a test firing through sheet rock and the only round to not over penetrate more than 2 interior walls was the AR shooting .223 which reduces collateral damage. The .380, 9mm, .38 special, 12 gauge with .00 all penetrated more that 3 interior walls.

I am considering my FN Five-Seven USG in lieu of the HK45c but just got it and need some range time. (from what I have heard I could get off a tighter faster group with the 5.7 than I could with a 9mm, .40 or my favorite .45)

What is comes down to is the ability to put well placed shots down range on Target in a tight group.

INMO, you are more likely to get 2 or 3 shots off in rapid succession with an AR or a pistol than a shotgun because of felt recoil and muzzle blast.

If at night, the shotgun could temporarily blind both the aggressor and the person defending their home. On the AR Platform you can get different muzzle breaks to greatly reduce the muzzle flash which will result to a quicker follow up shot.

***These are just my opinions and not 100% fact.***

A 12ga 00 round is usually made up of eight or nine 30 cal balls which IMO beats 2 or 3 pistol rounds.
