I was recently at the lgs and while there in walked several older gentlemen and knowing the owner a bit more than I do. They struck up a conversation which led to my thread title which they began to debate with much fever and intensity. One older gentlemen then asked me " son do you carry a gun " "yes was my reply" He asked "what kind". I told him I carry a LCR 357 mag well the group of older guys kinda laughed and said no disrespect to you but "you missed out on the glory years of revolvers" the group all agreed that a 4 I ch barrel would be preferable over anything else long or short and that if if didnt start with a 357 or a 44 mag or 44 special 45 colt they do not meet the right criteria to make the perfect fighting revolver so I ask you what do you think makes the perfect fighting revolver.

My Opinion

One that the shooter has complete confidence in !

Can handle profeciently.

Can reload qwikly.

But most of all , will have it on her/his person when needed!!

Personally , I`ve never felt under gunned with a 38 +p round .
Less flash in low lite.

I would think a 4" .357 Magnum with 6 rounds would be the best setup. Got a good size for duty use and a powerful cartridge.

Gun shop BS!

The only three or four modern revolvers that have been in enough real fighting to make them real fighting revolvers are:

1. The 1917 Model Colt & S&W revolvers chambered in .45 ACP. (WWI & WWII)

2. The British Webley in .445 and later .38/200. (WWI & WWII)

3. The K-Frame Model M&P / Model 10 S&W & Colt Official Police counterpart in .38 Special. (American Cops for the first half of the 20th. century.

4. The S&W Model 19/66 Combat Magnum & Model 13/65 fixed sight version in .357 favored by the Border Patrol and a lot of cops before the 'wonder 9' pistols took over.

the colt model 1892, of course. the ultimately useless fighting weapon chambered in 38 long colt that couldn't stop a charging squirrel let alone a drug-crazed morro (good thing we still had some single action army revolvers for backup during the philippine insurection).

if not for this revolver, we probably would have been stuck with an auto pistol in 9mm instead of the famous colt 1911!

Any reliable, quality 4" .357 Magnum. My personal choice (several times over) is Dan Wesson 15-2/715 in 4VH configuration.

Been in some street squabbles with this one and we're both still here.

Some great revolvers RC thank you as always I appreciate your vast encylopidia like knowledge I have not been around long enough to have lived during the revolver heyday so thank you to all who have helped me thank you and great pics guys

I like the 3 inch or 4 inch Ruger GP-100, Stainless, with Hogue grips and Remington 125 JHPs, but the S&W Model 58 in .41 Magnum is a beast.

Several PDs in the 1960s (Amarillo PD, Abilene TX PD, San Francisco PD) issued the Model 58.

Tough as nails.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
