What do you consider to be the ultimate fighting revolver

I carried a 3 1/8" S&W Performance Center 629 "Carry Comp" for awhile but if I were to suggest any changes for the average shooter, it would be to offer it in .45acp rather than .44 magnum.

Here's a trio with different grips on them.

To give the N frame some scale, here it is next to a J frame model 63 .22LR.

.45ACP might as well give way to the return of .44 Special, or perhaps just shooting .44 Special from a .44 Magnum. I have both the N-frame .45 ACP and Taurus .44 Special 431, and I would rather not deal with moonclips in the .45 or the full size of an N-frame. I do sacrifice a round in the Taurus 5-shooter.

load Auto Rims.....the ones i showed are 270gr running just under 1100fps from a 2 1/2"....

Wow...I get around that velocity out of a .44 magnum 2 1/2" loaded with 240 grain xtp's and 20 grains of 2400... a load that is fairly hot according to my books. :scrutiny:

I wouldn't take a revolver to war, any more than I'd take a sword.

Any of the following would do for middlin' bad days*, though...

*one or maybe two close-range attackers, not on drugs or wearing body armor.

so I ask you what do you think makes the perfect fighting revolver.

I would say 2.5" to 4" would be I deal. The 4" would provide a little better velocity.

If I were to rank my 357 SD Rugers it would go something like this:

1) Security Six

2) Speed Six

3) GP100

4) SP101

RealGun - It's interesting how people become accustomed to a trigger and hammer that don't match the gun, even convincing themselves that they prefer something cynical and ugly. There have to be better looking alternatives, just as a matter of basic art and craftsmanship.

CraigC - I think you'll find yourself the odd man out on that, 99.99% of the time. Some people have no taste.

The Performance Center stainless guns all have trigger colors that either blend with the gun or serve as bling. Your percentage of my being lonely in my opinion is probably way off.

Not all of them.

I've been an active participant in perhaps a dozen shooting forums for about 14yrs and YOU are the first person I've ever heard complain about the case colored hammers and triggers on S&W's. It's actually part of their trademark. If the majority of buyers agreed with you, S&W would still hard chrome them but they do not. This is an unrelated thread, yet you felt the need to insult someone and their S&W. Get over it already. If you don't like it on YOUR gun, do something about it and stop complaining about it in every thread picturing a S&W.

ghitch75 do you have any problems with bullets pulling out of their crimp? I had some problems with my 325 doing this with some ammo.

Ruger GP -100 w/4" bbl. No revolver outlives a Ruger for dependability. Abuse them and like a Timex they still work.

Not to disagree with a mod, but here goes.
GP100s are more like a Casio G-Shock watch.
I've always liked Timex watches, but none of them lasted long at work.
I can't kill my G-Shocks. I have two that I wear to work, depending on my mood.

Anyway, there have been some really nice revolvers in this thread, BUT, the discussion has been over since I posted the pic of the Striker 12.:)
Unless, someone posts pics of a cylinder fed grenade launcher or an electric Gatling.

I'll admit, I generally like a high polish blue on a hammer and trigger.
But, I've grown to like CCH hammers/triggers.
I hated CCH growing up, but I'm feeling much better now.

I did not refer to anyone in particular.

Oh, I don't know. When you include a specific picture with your comment it seems like you are referring to a particular gun.

I wasn't insulted because I know everybody has an opinion, which I respect. I was amused because your comment was directed at a fact that did not exist. You made a wrong assumption and then ripped the (non) choice in accessories. Not everybody has the same tastes and to question one's choices because they differ from yours is wrong. Just because you say so doesn't make it a fact. It's just your opinion. We all know what opinions are like.

Yet, maybe we've all accepted a trigger and hammer that are unattractive. Who would really choose the look of a blotchy finish MIM trigger and hammer on a SS gun or even a blued one, on which the contrast is not as pronounced. I think it is more a matter of acceptance. I am quite aware that guns are like ugly babies. Best not to say so to the owner.

Let's talk about triggers and hammers and forget about piling on the guy who has an outlying thought.

How about if we talk about fighting revolvers and NOT triggers and hammers, since fighting revolvers is the topic of the thread.

Bickering gets old fast.

I'm surprised I haven't seen anymore votes for an 8 shot 627.

The thought that YOU must entertain is that perhaps YOU are the only one that doesn't like it. There is a serious historical significance to color case hardened parts that perhaps YOU should educate yourself on before continuing on this nonsense. You can't offend me on this because I just chalk it up to ignorance but it is a distraction in this unrelated discussion. Nobody cares what your preferences are but maybe you can have them without calling someone's gun ugly??? It's not our fault you have no taste.

Some folks even pay extra for color case hardened guns!

Those guns are hideous. I will buy them from you for next to nothing. It will be my good deed for the year.
