I have gotton lots of anwers to the question. The top 3:
Assault Rifle, Automatic Rifle and Armalite Rifle. What is it?
Thanks.

Yep, Armalite, although for years I thought it was Assault Rifle. Assault Rifle just seemed to make sense, but at that time, I didn't know that ARs were made by anyone other than Colt.

Knowing the government, it most likely means.

Automatic,20shot,blackplastic,aluminum,gruntstick,Rifle.

Just kidding. Armalite sound correct.

It stands for "Armalite"; when Gene Stoner was Armalite's head designer, he had a whole series of "AR"s, including the AR-7, AR-10, AR-15, AR-17, AR-18, etc.

Meaning of the AR in AR15 ?

Armalite is the well known meaning but actually the real meaning came from the first GI that fired the weapon

He fired off a full 20 round mag and said :

"Alll Rightttyyy then"

Whew ... I thought someone was going to say it was a Navy SEAL designation.

That's a relief!

(ARRRR ARRRR ARRRR)
