In several threads, I have seen the term "Mall Ninja" used frequently. I have a vague idea of its meaning, but I'm not entirely sure what it means? Is it like a wannabe Special Forces security guard or something?

Basically, a mall ninja is someone who thinks he's some sort of special forces commando or ninja and buys cheap accessories to further that fantasy. Usually these accessories aren't very functional, and their only purpose is to look cool, but the mall ninja is so oblivious to this fact that he thinks they enable him to take on all comers despite the fact that he has absolutely no training.

Geronimo
I always wondered where that term came from. That is some seriously funny stuff.Very entertaining
Thanks

I was using the search function, and I typed in "gec" and on this list was Gecko45. But when I clicked on it, it said "sorry no matches."

Does this mean he used "un-THR" expressions and got his account deleted, along with all of his posts?

it's all back to Gecko45.... and it's a suddle reference.
He worked at a mall in TX in 'security'
he also claimed to be an expert in ninjitsu.

It was all funny until he mentioned shooting someone while they were running away from an elevated position, then it got scary for me. At first it just seemed like he was an insecure fella who wanted to get even with all those teenagers that picked on him in school so he played out these fantasies in his head. Then his fantasies turned from self-defence scenario (dinner plates in suitcases) into offense type scenarios....all of this in a shopping mall, not on a battlefield.

I think calling someone a "mall ninja" is a horrible insult.

This is the first time I've actually read all the way thru the entire history of the "mall ninja" posts. I've run through a bunch of reactions this am. (shock, disgust, hillarity, and finally, stunned silence.) The scary part is there are people out there like this!

That Gecko45 story is hi-freaking-larious. I think that guy, whoever he or she is, is a comedic genius. I probably read through that whole thing two or three times a year, and I never fail to laugh. I honestly believe that Gecko45 is a real gunny who just woke up one day and decided to have a lot of fun with what can occasionally be an uptight community.

Geronimo, thank you so much for that link. That was one of the funniest things I've ever read. I've heard the references, but Mall Ninja means much more to me now...

Geronimo45, thank you so much for the laugh. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Sad to say I know somebody like that, I used to be stationed with a guy who is a "Former SEAL" and now believes that he is a "Contracted Mercinary" for the President himself, but works in the Air Force as a cover. Also I know this guy who is an armed security guard for an appartment complex who did up his POV as a tactical police vehicle, and carries a loaded AR-15 in the trunk. He also believes he is paid to be in his words "extra tactical". He has been rejected for employment from every PD in CO, and honestly believes that it is because he would out perform every cop on the force. This is why every body should bann stupid people from breeding.

At the risk of sounding like a complete a-hole, let me first point out that I am simply making a joke here. A joke. Not to be taken seriously. Moving on.

This is why every body should bann stupid people from breeding.

Ironic that my fellow Coloradoan wants to ban breeding, but can't spell ban. Must be an Air Force thing.:neener:

mr_dove, that's a cosplayer at an anime con dressed like one of the soldiers from Jin Roh.

Mall Ninjas look more ridiculous.

I've actually spoken to the real Gecko45, and his posts were a joke.

However, nobody knows who SPECOPS is. He may have been serious.

I worked for an armored transport company for 5 years. While we had our share of wannabe cops, nobody ever made it to Gecko level.
Rather than dealing with petty shoplifters, I was carrying up to (and sometimes over) $30 million in the truck, and I was frequently exposed while working on ATMs with 100-150k on the floor next to me. While there was some concern, I didn't feel the need to turn myself into a walking Main Battle Tank.
