Hey all-

What's the one defining moment that made you realize that you were "into" guns?

What was the one firearm that first hooked your interest?

I'd guess that a lot of .22 single shots and .410's have special places in all of our hearts....

2 years ago my father-in-law let me handle his Colt Combat Commander. That day he took me to the range and I shot a pistol for the first time. All the sudden of the anti-gun stuff I grew up to believe became stupid drible to me. I went from voting against Propisition B (CCW) in 2000 to spending the last year email/writing/calling all my state reps and legislators to get CCW passed. Truely a defining moment.

A 1911... sans A1.

First handgun I ever shot, one I alwayd drooled over and the one I was raised to think would level anything shot with ball ammo.

I'm not sure it was the guns that hooked me but what I could do with them. When my dad took me out plinking with the .22, I think I was really hooked on spending time with my dad and having him tell me, "great shot," or "good job son." Then, with the centerfire rifle and shotgun it was spending time in the woods watching for dinner to walk up or flush. Now, it's the competition. I'm not so much hooked on race guns as I am racing.

I grew up shooting my fathers old mossberg bolt action 22. But at one of my first gunshows I picked up a Norinco SKS and 200 rounds of 7.62 for less than $100. I think that SKS got it started.
The first time I fired a Colt Gold Cup I had to have a 1911. I have never looked back.

Mine was in about 1981, I guess...I asked my dad if I could hold "that black gun" that he had in his shop.

That Colt AR was easily the very coolest lookin' piece of artillery that a 6-year old could possibly hold.:what:

I had seen guns of all sorts to that point, but that AR got me bad.

Navajo, That's a funny story.

What got me hooked was a Short Magazine Lee Enfield No 1 Mk I***. It is rather rare so I bought it and tucked it away. The next Enfield I picked up was either a No 4 Mk II or a pair of 22 SMLE trainers. After that, I was bit.

With the Enfields, I get a bit of history and a couple boxes of surplus ammunition for about $200.

I was hooked when I got my first air rifle a Crossman PowerMaster 66. Granted, its an air rifle, but that's what started me into guns.

Later,

Dave

My friend's father took me skeet shooting with a double barrelled 20 gauge and a Remmington 1100 (also 20).

My buddy took me to the range and I shot his Springfield Loaded 1911, then we went and shot clays with his shotgun. I bought a 1911 not long after that. Then my brother in law gave me a Taurus 38 snubbie. A shotgun is next on the list.

It was the first time a held my grandfathers beautiful blued Python. I have been spoiled for anything else since!

For me it was when a guy at work let me shoot his Contender in 44mag. I liked guns before that, however thats when the bug really bit me.
