What guns have you wanted but just couldn't justify paying the price?

I've really had my eye on a Jennings 22, but you know, mortgages suck.

I Know what you mean.
I went to my local gun show last spring, looking for something used in .25 acp. No luck, they all get bought up and sent to Mexico along with the .380s. Closest that I found was a .22 Raven in the box with an extra mag for $30.00.
It works as well as any other Raven now that I gave it what was probably its first Hoppe's No.9 massage and reshaped its battered feed lips.
-Still within budget for paying off my student loans!

When I first got on the job in LE in 1969, we had to buy our own guns out of an equipment allowance that we wouldn't receive for some time. I really wanted a Colt Diamondback in .38Spl., but the price was about 50% more than the ubiquitous S&W Mdl. 10. Finding a Diamondback would have required a long search, too.

I settled for the Smith and always wished I'd had enough to have bought the Colt. The reality is it would have been a shame to have subjected that beautiful highly polished Colt to what normally happens to LE equipment. lol

My list would be waaaaay too long. I'm pretty sure THR's software would lock my account, marking me as a spam bot, if I were to list them all. To simplify it I'll say anything over about $1000, mostly because there's usually some type of accessories/optics to go with it.

But the main ones that come to mind are Big Horn Armory lever rifles, anything (and everything) made by Barrett, and a POF gas-piston AR.

Every time I bid on a Romanian PSL the bid always goes up way past $1400.00 and I just say no. I also gave up on a Colt Python. Surplus 1911 Remington -Rand?, would like but again thousands of dollars just makes me say no. Maybe if I win the lotto some day or actually have a tax return that isn't spent already I will.

3A4AAD73-071E-4295-8542-AED0FDC3EB06.jpeg An old Model ‘94. Finally found one in a local shop that had a repair, so it wasn’t collector priced, but thought it was still too high. Went back, and it was on sale, but just couldn’t justify it at the time. My wife and daughter went in to get it and surprise me a week or so later, but it was gone. A few weeks later we were out and I said “I want to go look at that Model 94.” They knew it was gone, but didn’t say anything. I didn’t see it, and my heart sank. Guy asked what I was looking for and I told him. He said “hold on”, then got it out of the back. Said it wasn’t on sale any longer. I said if he would honor the sale price, I’d take it. He said ok, and I was a happy man. Serial # dates it to 1901. Shoots true to aim and has put food on the table. Sometimes things just work out.

I've always lusted after a Winchester Model 71, preferably the deluxe version. Not long after they were discontinued in the late fifties, I thought a good buying strategy would be to wait until the prices went down. Still waiting...:(

HK P7- great gun, just a lot of money for something I probably wouldn't carry or use much.
HK MR556- very cool rifle but a lot of money for an AR.
HK USC-to-UMP conversion- I purchased a USC for $1500 with idea of doing the UMP conversion. But eventually the $200 tax stamp with the associated wait time, the $1500 in parts and more for labor...well, an UMP would be cool but not that cool! Now that there's a US-made clone maybe.
