Hi, just picking your brains about what handgun I should get next:

I'm looking for something not too expensive to buy and to shoot. Something that uses ammo that is available almost everywhere, and different enough from what I already have to provide joy of ownership.

I dont anticipate ever being in a shoot out as I am not a LEO nor a Drug Lord.

this is what I currently have.

Glock 19 9mm for general sidearm.
(I ordered an Advantage Arms .22, backordered 2 months.)

S&W 637 .38 for light weight general CCW

Keltec P32 .32 ACP for high concealability and lightweight.

Taurus 94 .22 2" barrel for inexpensive trigger time at the range. Mimics 637.

So what else should I get ? :D

How about a single action (Ruger Vaquero or BlackHawk).45 colt, .41 mag or similar?
Or maybe a .357 rev in 4" or 6" like a s&w 586, 686 or Ruger GP100?
Or maybe a Sig P220-.45 acp? What do you like? Maybe another .22? How about a Ruger single-six in .22lr / .22mag with the long 9.5" bbl?
These are just some different suggestions to mix up your collection. I have some of each that I mentioned above and it helps me to stay happy trying a little of this and a little of that at each outing to the range or trail.
Good luck in your quest.

It doesn't appear that you're brand loyal, so I've got to say a Ruger Single action, but not a Vaquaro. Go with a Blackhawk (.357mag, not a 9mm convertible. Buy a real gun.), or Super Blackhawk.

I don't see a magnum in your list. I won't push Colt Python, but there's the Smith 19, Taurus 66 in .357 mag. I'll highly suggest a Ruger GP100. I don't see a 1911 .45acp in your list. How can you not own the most popular ones?

Seriously, I would get another Glock or Snub Nose to give you a back up to your CCW guns.

Redundancy is something I believe in, so if the Glock or Snub nose is out of service for whatever reason, you have something like it, to use.

It does not have to be exact, just the same caliber and MOA.
You could go Glock 26, or a older, good used Model 36, or 60 for instance.

Get one of the surplus Sig P6s while they are available for less than $300. While mine isn't the prettiest gun, it's the best $299 I ever spent. I know CDNN still has some, AIM surplus as well, and centerfiresystems is taking pre-orders for their next batch. This is a chance to own a great shooting Sig cheap...

Or, maybe a nice used but not abused Smith & Wesson .22LR caliber revolver,
such as the model 17, 18, or 34? A bit more pricey (and scarce is the model
35. The 3-1/2" barrel S&W model 43 also comes too mind; as does the Colt
.22 LR Diamondback; with the latter one being very expensive~! ;) :D

Too much like the taurus 94...

P6... I dunno, the glock 19 kinda does the same job...

More of the same ? Not for me, What are the chances of all of them are sent to repair ?

WOAH looks like the old west hehe...

hmm, I'm not looking for a more powerful revolver, my 637 is a revolver already and IMHO it just isnt different enough for my purposes to justify the expense. I'm looking for something not remotely close to what I already have to really give my small collection a wide variety...

I don't see a 1911 .45acp in your list. How can you not own the most popular ones?

1911.. I understand that a good 1911 costs a small fortune, and ones in my budget arent desireable.. $450 or less ? Cheap phillipine and etc..

How about a nice .22 pistol plinker? Or a 10/22 Rifle? Or the new Ruger LCP?

If the Advantage arms ever get here, that would be my 22 plinker, I have a 10/22 already but I am talkin handguns only, and the LCP would be rather the same as my P32...

How about a single action (Ruger Vaquero or BlackHawk).45 colt, .41 mag or similar?

I dunno, too western looking for me...

maybe a .357 rev in 4" or 6" like a s&w 586, 686 or Ruger GP100?

Maybe in the future, but now I need something not remotely close to what I have.. I'm thinking the 637 pretty much fills the medium bore list...

Or maybe a Sig P220-.45 acp? What do you like? Maybe another .22?

hmmm a semi auto service type pisol, for me the glock 19 fills that role,... another 22.. maybe, I like the fact .22 is cheap to shoot...

How about a Ruger single-six in .22lr / .22mag with the long 9.5" bbl?

wow, I dont think I can ever own enough denim to justify owning one of these :D

I appreciate all you guys input ! Any other suggestions ? :D

Wow, doesn't sound like you really want anything new as you torpedoed every suggestion. Also, comparing a Glock to a Sig??? I'll give you one more before I give up.

I picked up an RIA compact .45 last week and it is a very nice gun and very accurate. Yup, made in the Philippines; however, they have a solid reputation. Check out the 1911 forums before you dismiss this as a cheap third world gun. I picked mine up LNIB with 3 mags, 2 setps of grips, a a quality IWB holster for $425...

How about a more precise shooting .22 pistol?

Decent for the price: Phoenix Arms HP22.
Ruger Mk-serie or 22/45.
Maybe a Marvel (unit II) .22 conversion on a 1911 receiver..
Could build the receiver up yourself .. if your so inclined.
Decent rcvr, econo parts kit, can of duracoat and some cheapy grips to get it running..
could add better stuff later and stick the old parts away for spares.

Go for the Ruger GP100 in .357 Magnum. You can then use it for .38 Special and .357 Magnum shooting.

After this, save your change and a dollar here and there as a 1911 Fund and get a reliable 1911. There are many 1911 choices - all depends on what you like.

I'd suggest a .357 revolver with a 6" barrel. You'll notice the difference in length whether you're shooting .38 or .357. You seem to like ammo variety.

or, a M1911, either a Springfield GI-45 or the RIA in that order.

If you really want to variety, swap your G19 for a G22 and get an extra .357Sig barrel.

Hi Guys, I dont mean to shoot down or torpedo down the suggestions, but I really am looking for something different from what I already have.

I first started with the glock 19 because I like glock... Then I wanted something different. So I got the 637.

Glock 19 vs SW 637 is like night and day. way different ! :D

Then I wanted something different still, so I figured why not the lightest .32 pocket pistol ever made ? So I got the keltec P32. these three kinda forms a triangle, that they are very different from each other..

Then as the ammo costs keeps getting sky high, I got a .22 Taurus 94, so I can keep shooting for less instead of using the 637 so much, and I ordered the Advantage Arms .22 for the Glock so I can shoot a Glock type for less $$.

So I dunno what to get next, I cant afford to spend thousand on a gun, I have other responsibilites that require the money...

I dunno what I might consider as different, maybe the Biggest Revolver in the world ? I might go for a SW500 revolver if it just wasnt so darn expensive to buy, and gosh the ammo is 2 dollars a round :(

I know it sounded bad to say the sig and the glock is the same thing as it obviously have its differences, but what I meant is that TO ME, it is the same thing. both black, both semiauto, both uses magazines that goes into the grip, and both shoots bullets.

Also Calibre dont really matter much to me at all, excecpt for cost, I like 9mm because blazers are still kinda affordable.

Other I might consider would be .40sw .45acp (11 dollars /50)
.38 spl ( 11 dollars / 50 FMJ ) 9mm I catch on sale sometimes for 8 / 50 , 380 at 8/ 50,

But when we get to ammo like 44 Mag at 50 cents a piece, thats just not so much fun anymore...

Alot to think about, also, In my area, the law is ONE hangun purchase per 90 days. So If I buy something I dont like, I'll be stuck for 90 days...

thanks for all your input..

Oh my range got some 1911 for rent, I guess I'll try one out to see if I like it, I do think that is very different.. a classic, something that been issued to the army, weird safetys and all that.. I might think about the Kimber 1911 .22 , cheap to shoot. I guess that Long Big .357 idea is pretty cool too, big SS revolver that I can still shoot the cheaper .38 ... lots to think of...

Clearly your collection is missing a classic
a 1911
Seems without a doubt to me.
that's where I would start. And there are plenty of decent 1911's in that 600/700 dollar range.

Other thoughts.
Glock 34, similar to G19 but different, better ergo's (bigger), 9mm

Browning Hi-power. SA trigger, classic looks, still 9mm

Browning Buckmart, 22LR semi-auto pistol

That would be my thoughts.

The CZ 75B in .40 S&W is a good suggestion since you
are thinking that caliber. However, if your handle is Anchorage
and you're in Alaska, why not a GP100 in .357 Magnum? It
is a lot heavier, like 2.5 times the weight of a 637 and a 6" Bbl.
is also a different experience than the pocket pistol 637.

And get a piggy bank for a 1911 of your choosing.

Good Luck

It sounds like you're running out of options - maybe spend the 450 or so on some ammo for what you already have.

Browning Buckmark .22 - best $300 I ever spent on a pistol. If you have a $400 budget, buy $100 worth of ammo...lots of shooting for that money!

Rock Island Tactical 1911 - great entry-level 1911. It's not a Springfield, Colt, Rock River, Kimber, or Bauer. It's inexpensive, but it'll shoot. Can get 'em NIB for <$400.

Smith & Wesson 10 series - good .38 revolvers; used are very affordable (I saw one locally for $250)

Bersa Thunder - either .380 or 9mm - steel autos that are still at/near $300 (Academy has the .380s for under $270).

COuple thoughts...

You're required to have at least one magnum handgun to get a PFD, so I'd suggest a Ruger Blackhawk or old school Vaquero in .44 Magnum. If you don't like the ploughshare get a Bisley style. If you have a little more $$ to spend a Redhawk or Super Redhawk would do nicely.

too western looking for me...

That's what I used to think, but you should try them and see. They're not just for cowboys. If you really don't like SA revolvers go with a .44 Mag wheelgun.

Besides, if you're in Anchorage you're already at 149 degrees west. Dodge City is only 100 degrees west.

I'm in new york city. Anchorage name due to the fact that every flight I took that goes to asia, somehow end me up an hour sipping coffee in anchorage..

NEW YORK CITY!
(git a rope)

LOL OK well assuming it's legal I still say you need a big bore magnum to fill out the ranks. My Bisely-Vaquero in .44 Mag is by far the funnest handgun I've ever shot.

Also, I believe all flights must stop in Anchorage because of the Ted Stevens Layover Act. Did you at least get to enjoy our amazing array of dead animals?

Anchorage,
Redundancy is something I believe in.
It was how I was mentored.

I was raised with having 4 of something similar, and using the same ammo.
One to carry, one for backup, one for backup in the event one of the first two was out of service, and one off site.

My reasons, based on how mentored, experiences and observations.

-A gun is used to defend, it will be taken in as Evidence.
-Sometimes all guns are asked to removed from a location pending what the DA says.

-Disasters. Natural or otherwise.
Fire Destroys a home, Flooding, or Tornado's.

Now having one off site is a great idea, as recently tornado's swept through, and as has happened before, folks could not get to their homes, or businesses where guns were.

Some could not get to guns under debris, or have no idea where guns "blew off to".
Years ago a buddy of mine, was hit by a tornado, it destroyed his house, all the houses in that little spot and his safe was found about 3 wks later in a pasture, in a clump of trees.

I have nothing against getting a gun "just because" is it wanted.

I do know about a safe being taken and all my guns stolen as some were off site in that safe.

I do know about fire, destroying guns, gun that were so sentimental to me, no amount of monetary value could be attached. More than once fire has taken from me guns , knives and other things.

I know what a gun looks like after being dropped on concrete, and left in a evidence room, or removed from a vehicle in a car wreck covered in my blood and I was rushed to a hospital.

I know about taking guns to those affected by Katrina, and other disasters going back to when I was kid , born in the mid 50's.

I know the look of folks that could not carry , or have in a vehicle a firearm that worked on a Military base, or similar restricted area, and the home is destroyed by fire, or tornado and they have no guns...
And they are so damn grateful, folks loan them a good used police trade in Model 10, or single shot shotgun, to use as they recover and get their lives back in order.

Just a suggestion, still I do know...
