In the general idea of [email protected]'s post, it got me thinking, but in another direction. I don't question why people like the firearms they do. My best friend loves his Stainless Beretta 92, I can't stand doing anything aside from looking at it (I must admit, it is pretty). Two of my other friends have Steyr's (an M9 and an M40). And while I had an M40, I can't see it being my only handgun (this is for them thier only handgun/CCW). My dad loves his .40 Glock...while agree the craftmanship is damn fine, it feels like a sock filled with cement to me. And people laugh at me when I tell them I carry a Walther P99 and an HK USP because of how expensive they are compared to whatever they carry...to each thier own. But there are a number of very cool and well-made firearms out there that I can't believe others are not all over. For instance:

The IMI/Magnum Research Baby Eagle (also Tangfolio, Jericho and CZ):
I had one fo these in 9mm. Every single person that fired this gun remarked that it felt nicer, was more accurate and more comfortable to shoot than any other firearm they've owned or shot in that price range, or at the very least, it was damn near equal. At $430 abouts, how is this not a wonder gun these days? Comes in full-metal and a polymer version, 9mm, .40 and .45ACP (though the .45's had a rep for being finicky a while back). The polymer version has a rail (like most of the other decent poly's do these days), and all of them feature a decent safety system (can have one exaclty like that found on a Beretta 92 with a decocker or one with a frame mounted safety like a 1911).

I used to say this about the Springfield XD as well until it caught on.

So anyway, what other firearms are we missing out on and why?

i was going to say xd, but it is getting better known on forums at least. I'm surprised more police agencies haven't gone to it yet though

I'm surprised at how much taurus hate I see at times--the revolvers of their i've had have been decent

Taurus Tracker .357.

I bought a Ruger GP100, and the next day fired a Taurus Tracker 4" .357 magnum. Amazing gun. $350. Stainless steel, very accurate, and lighter than my Ruger. Get this: 7 Shots!
Why don't I have one?

If you are a big bore revolver fan, without a doubt the 41 magnum will suprise you as to its combination of accuracy, power, and overall shootability. Of course, it's in a Model 57 Smith.

The Ruger 45's semi-autos. They work and work well. And are very affordable. Then again, I almost think there is less market for affordable 45's than for expensive 45's.

I thought we recently did this... :D

My vote then, and still is the SIG P225.

Single stack 9mm, very compact, and a sweet all around gun. Besides the gun forums, the general public doesn't really know about "the best kept secret" :)

I've only seen three other BHPs in IDPA... one was a Browning 40, the others were FEG clones... mine, my dad's and one of my instructors that bought one on my recommendation.

I know they had a following among detectives in the 70's... and many of you have them, but you just don't see them that often at the range. For being the most popular military handgun in the world you think you'd see more of them

Ruger 45's would be more popular if they held more ammo... you'd bet they could have fit 10 or 11 rounds in that grip frame.

No one seems to talk about the SW autos any more, unless you count Walthers marked as SW's.

.41mag in just about any flavor. Enough power to handle almost anything in N. America. About halfway between .44mag and .357mag in power and recoil, but a more pleasant recoil than either (much lighter than .44mag, less snappy than .357).

I'd also have to agree on S&W autos. What isn't to like about guns that always go bang, that are accurate, and are very well made?

I was stunned that the Beretta Cougar series died a flaming death. I thought the 8045 was a fantastic gun--for a non-1911 pattern .45.

Of course.....I sold mine to buy another 1911....

I've never understood why these Buntlines didn't take off? Seem's to me they're perfectly suited as a CCW. :neener:

...The IMI/Magnum Research Baby Eagle (also Tangfolio, Jericho and CZ):...
Mostly the same gun. Tanfoglio makes the slides/frames for The Baby Eagle, and is the maker of the Jericho 941, the Springfield P9, the EAA Witness, TZ 75 abd TA 90. I have had several Witness pistols, and every one of them was a great shooter and extremely reliable.
The CZ, (what the Tanfoglio copied), is truely the wonder nine of the modern age, and I don't know why they aren't more popular. I love my CZ75 Po1 - best carry pistol I have ever found. I would be happy with a CZ75 Compact, full size, PCR, or the Compact 40 now on the market, as a CCW pistol out here in AZ....great, great sidearms!

Out of production stuff: I was suprised that the Browning BDM didn't make it. Had alot of things going for it. Also, the FN HP DA not making it was surprising. Taurus 445, 455.

Production: SigPro, Kahr K9, Beretta 9000.

Taurus 445 series

They were just discontinued. Compact frame .44 special snub nosed that deserved better. I suppose it's the lack of respect/love the special cartridge seems to suffer from.

I don't know, for something that was selling so badly that it merited discontinuance, the Taurus 445 sure disappeared awful fast and I rarely see any used ones up for sale on the auction sites.

I am surprised that the .22lr Bersas are not more popular. I have two of them and I find them to be accurate and reliable. They are also the most fun .22lrs I have. For some reason, the DA/SA action and the compact size just spells fun to me. It is a great trainer for DA/SA guns if that is what you shoot (I prefer DA/SA for serious guns).

CZs.....very accurate, great ergonomics IMO, and quality exterior finish. Good price too.

For revolvers....Ruger Bisley. The grip fits my small-medium hands perfectly (even though most people say the grips are made for LARGE hands). Furthermore, the Bisley grip for me seems to tame Magnum recoil better than the SAA grip. And the Bisley hammer and trigger for me are easier to use than the SAA trigger/hammer.
