i.e. Jackrabbits, racoons, squirrels etc. Which round does the most damage?

CCI has the old .32 grain HP at 1,640 fps and also a segmented HP .32 grains that is designed to break up into 3 pieces. This might be an updated version of the .22 LR Quik Shok that did the same and might even be the same company. Is it better to have a bullet that will fragment into 3 pieces or just a solid hollow point projectile.?

Then there is Aguila a 30 grain HP at 1,750 fps and another 30 grain solid nose at 1,700. I believe these are the fastest .22 LR in the world.

In my experience they all work about the same, and they are all deadly. Federal bulk pack 36gr hollow points kill small animals just as dead as stingers and such. For very small game like squirrels and cottontails, stingers seem to leave a bigger hole but it isn't necessary. If it's just gore you're after, shoot 'em with a bigger rifle.

Is this the single projectile Stinger hollow point or the framented into 3 piece Stinger Hollow point?

I still like the old standard velocity, 40 grain, lead round nose.

That said, the Win X22LR, a high velocity lrn, and the Win Power Point has served me well, as have the Fed Bulk Pack.

I go for what runs the gun, and what shoots point of aim to point of impact, then focus on shot placement.

If you hit them with anything the 22 will do the work. I have hunted since a barefooted kid with an old beat up single shot Winchester. Have killed squirrels with shorts more than LRs. One does not have to use fragmenting rds to put food onto the table or rid oneself of pests. Quit reading gun magazines and start shooting- you will find out.

Hello friends and neighbors // Find out what your rifle likes and buy a bunch of it.

I'm too cheap to buy much other than Fed bulk but I do use CCI shorts to good effect.
If you are hunting I would stay away from Rem. "Thunderbolts."

I agree, all will work. Its all about bullet placement. The fragmenting, super fast and double concave Super hollow point will work also for about 3-4 times the money. If u like spending money on the latest and greatest, go ahead, but the cheap stuff in 550 count boxes kill just as well. Just find one your rifle likes and go hunting!

I find HPs to work better on small rodents, for an instant kill. Otherwise, I don't sweat it. Regular HV .22 ammo is fine.

For jackrabbits and large raccoons, I might consider moving up from .22LR. The problem with super-duper higher-than-high-velocity .22LR is that you still have to HIT the pest, to kill it. Maybe your rifle will shoot straight with those rounds, but maybe it won't.

depends on your rifle and how far are you planning to shoot CCI mini mags is good place to start, can't go wrong with eley, and woolf match is a deal out there.... CCI Stingers that's something 1640 FPS, I used it once on the gobbler 50 yards head shot from Rem 597

I've only used the single hollowpoint.
That's traditionally my thinking but since they came up with this fragmenting into 3 piece .22 LR HP I was wondering which bullet would do more damage as they are both the same weight 32 grains and travel at the same velocity and both are hollowpoints.
Don't forget Remington also makes the Viper and the stronger Yellow Jacket in .22 LR.
Aguila is even faster at 1,750 fps which I was told is owned by Remington.

Got three squirrels last week with one shot each of Wolf MT 40grers. Also got one with my Tundra using a Michelin Match Tire.

While posting this my Westie was going nuts looking out to the backyard. I looked and grabbed a 22 to take a shot at another squirrel only to miss. I could have followed up quickly but thought I had hit him. Oh well, he'll be back and so will I.

Aguila sells a 40 grain that travels at 1,470 I believe it is called the Interceptor?

I just use federal bulk pack hollowpoints because they work just fine, are cheap and quite accurate in my CZ 453 American and 452 youth.

I would think that the 30 grain 1,750 fps Aguila HP or the same Aguila flat point would be the most deadliest.

I've noticed lately that me eyes are failing some.

I thought you asked "eliminating POETS"!!

I think any LR will get most of them but prefer to use HPs on gofers, racoons, feral cats and the like. On the Longfellows the WMR is the ticket.

CCI when I have money.

I think the 32 CCI Stinger HP bullet not the segmented that breaks up into 3 pieces but the regular one bullet Stinger is the best along with the Aguilar which is the fastest at 1,750 fps 30 grains.

The Aguila's at 1750 tear stuff up, literally. Hit a lot of stuff using iron sights, so they seem reliably accurate. Of all I've used, these are the most brutal and loudest, FTW!
I wonder how they work for personal protection if concealment is the upmost priority?
There are two loads the hollow point which needs that velocity to expand but may not because this is now in a tiny pistol or the solid point which will give better penetration?

I just took care of a wabbit he was decimating my wife's garden there are still 10 or more in the vicinity, I used Remington Subsonic, probably 35 yards neck shot here is an exit wound ... he never had a chance, or well I will cook him now ;-)
