What is the best new 9mm pistol for under $600.00?

I like my old G17 (mid 80's), and the XDsc9, XDsc40 and my XDm40 are all really quite nice too.

And don't laugh to hard, but for a cheap one, well under the $600 criteria, my SCCY CPX1 has a fantastic trigger. That little bargain brand has proved to be amazing so far. I bought two, one for the wife.

No, not "better."

Those with experience say the Gen4 Glocks are optimized for the .40 S&W offerings (G22, 23, 27, 35). Initially, some of the early Gen4 Glocks in 9mm had some minor issues.

My experience with the Gen3 G19 (based on time spent shooting three different guns, and owning two of those) tells me there was no reason to change the Gen3 G19. It was already perfect.

I've only owned and shot extensively a Springfield XD and Glock 19 in 9mm, but have handled and/or shot a few others (Beretta PX4, Beretta 92FS, Glock 17, Springfield XDm among others)...... my bias leans toward the G19.

Interesting. Was there any hearsay Glock intended the Gen4 to be optimized for the .40?

I read their Gen3 and before were better in 9mm than .40.

As an aside, I read the S&W M&P was optimized for .40 from the get-go.

I like the XDsc as well, even it's appearance. It's a bit tall for a subcompact, though. I don't see why they couldn't have made it shorter (bottom of grip to top of slide).

The best for me was not under $600...but rather $400. S&W's SD9VE. It's the new kid on the block but I think 20 years from now it will be spoken of with awe and a gleam in the eye of every gun owner existent. :neener:

Any particular reason why? I know the trigger is heavy, although that may be good cross-training for revolvers and vice-versa. Is there stacking in the trigger?

I know there are kits to make the pull lighter but I also read of failures to fire.

I don't know about the SD9VE but the previous gun from than line (SW9VE) was a study.

I had one, purchased for under $300 tax included with some extra magazines thrown in, brand new. It was completely reliable out of the box. I never had a single failure with mine that wasn't intentionally induced (finger on the slide sort of induced). It had a poor but manageable trigger, no worse than many revolvers. It was as accurate as my Glock. It was a fantastic bargain gun.

Of course on the internet everyone knows they are dogs.

(And no, I wouldn't put it on a best under 600 list, as that would probably go to a urethane painted CZ75 IMO, but it was much better than its online reputation.)

Peacebutready,

Have you shot the gun? The trigger pull is measured at around 8 pounds and is quite smooth with some slight stacking before breaking. I really like the trigger a good deal. I find it to be very accurate, reliable and have had no malfunctions through 400 rounds of FMJs and JHPs.
There is a trigger replacement kit from Apex that many are fond of. There are many good Youtube video reviews that are practically all positive. This gun is NOT a Sigma, nor is it a SW9...some have described it as the best of those two guns and some M&P to boot.

Never shot it. Based on things I read, I thinks it's a great value.

The stacking part of the trigger makes me cringe more than the poundage.

I know about Apex. I thought that was the one with failure to fire issues for many people. I'm not sure, though.

I have not replaced my trigger with the Apex and don't plan on it. It works just fine now and I think you're right that it might be inviting a problem. The stacking isn't bad at all; this trigger is a significant improvement over the Sigma. The gun is very Glock like, as can be seen, however the ergonomics are far superior...it points very naturally.

The "best" is what you will shoot effectively, whatever the purpose you have for it. Many love Glocks; I hate how they fit my hand, so I won't buy one because I won't shoot it. I like the PPQ and the CZ. I carry an SR9c frequently. Pick features that you want and check guns with those features for fit in your hand. Then you will like your gun, no matter what everybody else likes or uses.
