What is the best revolver?

If I could only choose one gun it would have to be a multi-tasker, so my choice would be a Ruger Blackhawk in .38/.357/9mm. Depending on the cylinder and/or ammo, I'd have a........
1. Range plinker
2. Hunting weapon
3. Competition revolver (CAS)
4. A powerful CCW

LD45;)

shucks, I think the OP is clearly clear
he means what's best for you, of course

if your name be "me", any 6" k-frame being the clear choice
k19/66 for centerfire, k17 and/or k48 for rimfire being prime examples

PS
BCrider is in for a very long pleasant ride, trying to figger out whether a 19 or 66 is the "best"
but it's worth the trip !

Had I to pick but one to cover as many bases as possible it would most likely be a Freedom Arms M83 in .454 Casull, premier grade, with a spare cylinder in .45 ACP, octagonal barrel (pure cosmetics...), and I would specify a 6.5" length if they would cut it for me in that length. Of course my bases covered are primarily concerned with outdoor and recreational use, as I am an auto-loader fan when it comes to self defensive side arms.

That right there is the best answer.

My F/A model 97 is a fine gun, but has been down twice with broken springs even though it doesn't get out much.

The greatest revolver of all times is...(drum roll)... the S&W 624 .44 special.

I really wanted to say the S&W First Model 44 Hand Ejector, New Century or most commonly the Triple Lock:

but after thinking about it some more I think it would be the Registered Magnum by the same company. I can't afford one of them but this later version, a post-War "357 Magnum", before they called them Model 27s, is as close as I will ever get.

The deluxe version of Smith's N-frame 357 has all the characteristics the OP asked for: accurate, durable and well finished.

YMMV,
Dave

Although the best lookin' Super Blackhawk was silently screamin' my name for a ride home in the not-to-distant past, I would probably opt for a BFR in 45-70 Gov't!

My 'fav' gun is my Blackhawk 357 with a 9mm cylinder. 6" barrel, original grips, aluminum handle frame, no transfer bar.

There it is.

Of course my Blackhawk 45 ACP/Lcolt extra cylinder is a very close 2nd.

There are and have been a lot of good revolvers made over time. The word "best" is very subjective but IMO the best revolver would be a Freedom Arms Model 83 closely followed by the Model 97.

Any pre-1970s Colt. They are incredibly smooth. The Python is probably the best of them all. I've shot them but don't own one.

I have a Colt New Service in .45 ACP that is smoother than any Smith I've ever owned. My Trooper .357 Mag of 1961 vintage was as smooth out of the box as my custom tuned S&W model 13...ditto my Diamond Back...

My "best" would be a Smith & Wesson 581 or 681.
For those who don't know, it's an L framed (medium-sized) .357 Magnum.
The 581 is blue, the 681 is Stainless steel.
Both have fixed sights.

#2 is an 1873 Colt Peacemaker - 5 1/2" barrel, 45 Colt.
(I have 2 replicas)

Either S&W M686 3-inch *OR* S&W M27 4-inch if I was restricted on ONLY ONE Handgun...(hey, I'm an old guy and cannot make up my mind between the two....either would be OK by me)

4" K-frame

For me, while I love all of the revolves I have, if I had to pick one for everything I would keep my Smith model 15. A fellow has a model 66 and has offered it to me when I have the money. If that jumps into my stable, that might make the cut.

For me the 4" K-frame is the perfect balance of weight, grip, mass, and OAL to give a very stable shooting platform and great accuracy.

Easy for me-my Dan Wesson 715. .357 Stainless with 2 1/2"/4"/6"/8" VH barrels. Strong, accurate, easy to maintain.

Ruger Redhawk.

It has the right combination of looks, ruggedness, accuracy, and action.

There are some revolvers with better single actions. (S&W)
There are some revolvers with better double actions. (Colt)

But this one has a smooth, light double action, a good single action, is accurate, and can shoot as many magnums as I care to with no worry of going out of time or shooting loose.

Why nobody has mentioned the GP100 I don't know. Built like a tank and will take pertneer anything you want to feed it. It's a toss up, I'm with CPE on the 4" King Cobra (Heavier frame) or the GP 100 (Mine has had a helluva trigger job). With big bore, it would be the Anaconda or Ruger SA. Tough to limit it to one. Limited to One, the Anaconda.
