There is a lot of talk about returning pistols to glock and how good they are at fixing your problems. What is the standard glock warrenty when you buy a new gun and how are you able to get repair work done for free so many years after the weapon has been bought? thanks.

The official warranty is basically the standard for any firearms warranty. Shoot non-factory ammo and it's voided. You resell the gun and it's vioided for the new owner. Use your firearm for a wedge, hammer or other non-specific, non-firearms tool use and it's voided.

However, the reality is that Glock will fix and/or replace any parts that fail regardless of previous ownership as they recently did for me. They actually went a step further for me which buys them a Hugh Jass recommendation for me from now until I die. When I sent my Gen 1 Glock 17 in to be serviced, I enclosed a check for $20 for a new pistol box. The armoury told me that's they run about $18-20 and if I got the box while they were working on my pistol they would ship them back together. I got the pistol back with basically the whole internals replaced for free and the whole package shipped back for free even though it was heavier than when I sent it. This was about 2 months or so ago.
Yesterday, I get a letter in the mail from Glock. Thinking it's an ad for a new pistol or some other sort of advertising of a service they provide, I opened it up anyway. You can imagine my shock when I open the letter to find...a check for $20. Free parts, free service and a free pistol box?

You bet your sweet bippy I'm a Glock fan! :D

Psycho, I'm glad to hear about the great service from Glock.

I think most warranties are one year. I've had no problems with my Glock  but I've sent other weapons back :banghead:. I think the best thing I've read about warranties is to put your $$$ on quality up-front...it's hard to submit paperwork if you're dead ;) .

A couple of tips to avoid problems when returning anything for service:
1. Call first. It's easy and opens the lines of communication.
2. Ship UPS if possible and get a tracking number.
3. If you've heard nothing in a timely manner call them back.

Be polite, and most manufacturers will work with you. Having a gun blow up in your hand can cost too much in lawyer fees for them to worry about it too much.

You resell the gun and it's vioided for the new owner.

I've never had to use Glock's warranty, but I can confirm that Smith & Wesson, Taurus, and Ruger will honor a lifetime warranty whether you're the first or tenth owner.

Just know that Glocks are never recalled for defects, they are upgraded for product improvements.;)

amen to kevin who needs a warranty to the most proven gun out there.I bet there gun smiths are so bored.

Mark,

Is that Gen 1 model 17 the well used pistol you bought for $100 from a friend?

If so, that has got to be the deal of the century. Factory reconditioned pistol & new pistol box all for $100 and the cost of one way shipping to Glock!

Patton21,

The Glock warranty, in practice, is this. If it breaks and there is no obvious evidence of abuse, you ship it to them and they fix it for free & send it back. I believe Mark (psychophipps) even told them that he was not the original owner.

glock will fix or upgrade anything they sell and i have never been asked if i was the original buyer or not. the down side is if by chance you get a frame replaces on an earlier glock you'll get the finger groove frame back since it's all they have.

Glocks have problems just like everything else. I saw someone who had their locking block crack. Their design is solid, just like many other modern semi-autos. But they are just as susceptible to metalurgical problems and similar issues that creep up for other manufacturers.

They will take care of problems. Like every other manufacturer, I've never heard of them asking for a receipt. Short of a shot out barrel, given the cost of replacing any particular glock part, I doubt you'll wind up doing more than splitting the shipping costs ona round trip.

Yup, it sure is my $100 Glock. ;)
Now my only issue is hitting the green side of a red barn with the thing. I'm very much a beginner so I still have horrible trigger control. I keep slapping the barrel down and off center when I pull the trigger on my Glock. First shot is ok but the rest go awry. :p

Funny thing is that I'm shooting much better with my P97DC,
