What is the most recent knife you bought?

My "work" knife is a SOG Flash 2. It is a little bulky, so I wanted a "dress" knife for Sundays, as well as being under the ambiguous 3" rule for "concealed" (if you can see the pocket clip, is it concealed or not) carry. Rant over, I found the SOG Twitch 2 and am excited to see it, should be here this week:

Been on a bit of a buying kick. Fun money’s going to get tight this summer so I’m squirreling it away hard right now and trying to get my fun purchases for the year while I can. Any gun purchases will involve trades.

The local city I have to frequent has a silly restriction on concealed knives over 3”. This can potentially be an issue for me in winter since my coat will cover the pocket clip on a knife riding in my pants pocket. So since I’ve developed a very sudden and strong fondness for ZT Knives, I tracked down a ZT0900.

Les George design. 2.7” S35VN blade. I typically think a bit of contrast is nice on a knife, but for some reason I like how the titanium and steel have pretty much the same finish. It just looks like all business to me.

I am in a purging mode at home. I own too much stuff and some of it is a remnant of years long gone. I’m a totally different person and my interests are totally different than they were 20 years ago.

So I remembered I had a sword and axe sitting in a box, along with a number of inexpensive junker knives. Many of them were “collectors items” or commemorative knives that were unusable and made of cast pot metal. I’ve always enjoyed knives and as a result, I’d been given a lot of these things as gifts. I figured since they’ve been sitting in a box for 20+ years, it was time to move them along.

I took the lot of them to a local pawn shop yesterday and sold them all off for $110. They obviously cost more years ago, but they aren’t really worth much now.

I wanted to keep the spirit of those gifts alive though, so I took that money to Cabela’s and picked up the last ZT from current production that really interests me as a practical everyday carry knife.

ZT0462. The knife is 9” overall and has a cutting edge of over 4”. CPM 20CV steel.

I'm a sucker for an Amazon impulse buy. I just purchased a Mora Robust as a work beater. I have 100 knives that could fill that role, but I have been eager to see if these little buggers are as tough as they say they are. Plus for $13, why not.

$13 for good Swedish steel, why not indeed.

I have a Mora Companion that I have beaten the tar out of the last 4 or 5 years. I think a lot of us get hung up on full tangs and thick stock, and those do make a knife strong, but oz for oz it's tough to beat a Mora.

Someone on bladeforums recently shared a YouTube video of some guys trying to destroy the little Robust. Hammered it, batonned with it, drove it into a stump and stood on it, and even broke bricks apart by stabbing it with the tip. Nothing killed it.

Sounds like a work knife to me;)

I'm on a bit of a binge I guess. I stopped in at One Stop Knife Shop in Louisville again. My wife, daughter, and mother in law had some girl scout cookies to deliver to nearby family members, so I asked if they would just drop me off to hang out with Kevin for a few minutes.

My evil plan worked:evil:

With my wife out of the picture for 20-30 minutes, I was able to shop with reckless abandon. I knew I was in the market for a fixed blade. My Chris Reeve has cured me for the time being of buying folders...at the cost of the cost of the knife;) So a new a new Reeve wasn't in the cards anyway. So I was looking for a stout 4"-5" tactical/outdoor fixed blade.

I looked at several that were contenders. I told Kevin that I had missed the boat a Zero Tolerance fixed blade that was discontinued a year or so back and was wanting to find something like that.

He said, "Oh, you mean the ZT180, right?" Reaches behind him and THUNK drops one on the counter:what:

These aren't unobtainium but they are tough to find that aren't marked up to a collector's premium.

A little over 4" of blade, a thick .20 stock, and made out of the ridiculously tough vanadis 4 extra steel, this little knife is a tank.

It comes with a Spec Op brand cordura survival sheath that I am a little lukewarm on, but it does the job. I'll be making a better one in the next few months. Dont get me wrong, the sheath is well made and certainly does the tactical duty thing, but I like something more compact without pouches and cord and noisy velcro all over it.

Anyway, Kevin sold me the knife at a more than fair friend price. I'm super pleased:D
