A .45/.357 that's smaller than a Baby Browning?!?! Yikes, I'd think that would hurt the shooter more than it would the bad guy!!! It barely looks like you could get your middle finger around that tiny grip!!!
welcome to The High Road ellswj! You will find that MOST of our members are polite and helpful and I look forward to any future contributions in terms of your knowledge and experience.
The Downsizer has been around for a few years. I thing it would be classified as a single shot derringer. To be honest I have no need for something that small, however I would like very much to acquire one. Why, well as much as I hate the work " neat " , I think it is just a neat little gun. I imagine that in .45 ACP and .357 the recoil would be very interesting, however, in 38 Special it might be just the thing for James Bond to slip into his Tuxedo pocket for a night at the opera.
I've see one of these before. I believe the intention is that you hold the pistol enclosed in your fist with your middle finger on the trigger. Your index finger would be above the barrel. The recoil impulse would be straight back into the palm. Probably wouldn't be too bad actually.
Downsizers were known for being extremely well-made, actually. However, the company is apparently out of business or something. Last I'd heard, quite a few people had sent the guy money, never received their gun, and couldn't get any response out of the owner.
A few years back, in Gun World, Leroy Thompson (a big burly fellow if you've seen photos of him) did a writeup on a .45 Downsizer. Quite possibly the shortest gun test firing on record, as he could only handle three rounds -- one of which was a complete miss at only a few feet -- before giving out.
