Hey everyone!

Another thread got me thinking so if your deer rifle is chambered in XX, and You Reload for it what is your go to Load?

*¥*%#^[##%*]
No one is liable if you use their load this is a theoretical discussion
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

For me it is as follows

.308 Winchester

150 grain Sierra Gameking

43.00 grains IMR 3031

Mixed brass

CCI LRP

It hasn’t failed me once and if I do my part I doubt it ever will

I use a 44 mag rifle and 450 Bushmaster.

I use factory Hornady 300 gr XTP reluctantly but this year I will be using factory 270 gr Speer Deep Curl.

And Federal Power Shok 300 gr 450 Bushmaster.

Many will feel this is a bit heavy for deer but I desire penetration from bow to stern if I can help it.

Last year was:
Case: 450 Bushmaster (once fired Remington)
Bullet: BARNES 275 gr TSX
OAL: 2.260"
Prime: Winchester Small Rifle
Powder: H110: 33.5 gr
Velocity: 1850 fps (20-inch barrel)

5-shot group at 100 yards

The rifle a 20-inch Bushmaster upper kit on a DPMS lower with a lot of parts changed by me. The deer I took with it, a 140lb doe. The two red arrows represent the bullets entrance and exit (neck was entrance). Range was about 40 yards.

The recovered bullet found with a metal detector after penetrating an addition ~1 ft of dirt. 95% weight retention loosing one petal. The bullet broke the neck, and two ribs going into the body cavity. You ought to see what it does to armadillo's :)

This coming season will likely be primary hunted with another AR but chambered in 450 Bushmaster's little brother the 30 Remington AR. For this season I will be shooting Factory 150gr Coreloks @ ~2400 fps.

I am pushing a 150 grain Hornady SST out of my .30/06 at 2900 FPS, using 49 grains of H4895. I could easily push it faster, but this was the accuracy node for my rifle with these components. It duplicates factory ammo velocity, so in a pinch, I could buy factory ammo and have very little work to re-zero. And, I get a premium-bullet load for less than half the cost of buying the same loaded ammo.

44mag rifle: 240gr XTP, CCI Mag LPP, Starline brass and an almost max dose of IMR 4227. Buddy shot a big body deer with it last year about 60yards out and it made a big ole hole in the heart. He said the deer face planted when the bullet hit.

45-70: 300gr Hornady HP with a heavy dose of IMR 4198, CCI LRP and Starline brass. Shot a doe with a trap door load and the same bullet and tracked her for over 100yards. Shot a buck in the neck with a heavier dose of the same combo and dropped him where he stood at a hair over 100yards.

Muzzleloader: :) 300gr XTP, Harvester smooth sabot, 100gr Blackhorn 209, CCI Magnum shotgun primer. Shot a doe with the combo a few years back about 50yards out and there was snow on the ground. What a mess!

This is a HOT LOAD! 200gr Hornady psp interlock over 34grs of imr4198. Use this in my Mauser rebarrelled to 35 Remington.

Shot a nice 9 point buck with it last fall!

For my 30-06 I use 150gr Hornady psp interlock over 47grs of imr4895. It duplicates m2 ball load. So in a pinch I can pull a fmj from Greek hop and replace it with a soft point. This rifle has a 2 groove 03-A3 barrel.

I load a 170gr bullet over 35.0gr LVR in mixed brass and a CCI LRP.

I use a 170gr bullet instead of a 150gr bullet bullet cause of the brave tree cover where I live and twig deflection. The 170gr bullet doesn't go off course as easily as the lighter bullet.

My last deer was taken with Federal Power Shock .25-06 Remington with 117 grain spitzer JSP bullet, published MV is 3030 fps. Shouldn't be hard to replicate but I paid less than $10 / box of 20 after sale & rebate back in 2018. Boy have those times & deals vaporized!

Either a 300 gr Speer Deep Curl over around 39 gr of IMR4227 in the .460 Mag, a 240 gr Nosler JSP over around 24 gr of H110/W296 in the .44 Mag or a 158 gr Hornady XTP-FP over around 16 gr of H110/W296 for the .357 Mag.

In my .58 BP muzzle loader I load a 192 gr lead ball in a .015 mink oil lubed patch over a 1/2" felt wad and 120 grains of 2f black powder. Never had a deer go more than 30 ft after being hit with that load.

My handgun load for my 357 mag Blackhawk will be 13.5grs of AA#9 behind a 158gr Hornady XTP. My rifle load has been (if I recall correctly) 61grs of Reloder 17 behind a 180gr Nosler Partition for several years in my 300 WSM Weatherby Vanguard.
Too tired to go out and look at my rifle load book in the shop after a 12 hour work day.

250 Savage. 100 gr. Sierra pro hunter Winchester brass 34 gr. 4064 any brand. 2800 out of my 20 inch barrel custom and just under 2900 from the wife's Savage 99. Passes thru out to 200 yards.

This coming season it will be a 240gr .430" cast hollow point over 13.0gr of Blue Dot in a Starline case with a CCI #350 primer fired from a new to me 7.5" Ruger Super Blackhawk carried in a chest holster.

I have various loads for various rifles, but they all have one thing in common. They all push a Speer Hot Core at 2500-2800 fps, and they all weigh 145 or 150 grains (7mm and .308 bores respectively). The only exception would be my long range load which pushes a 7mm 145 BTSP a touch faster.

Super Black Hawk/29-2. Sierra 210 jhp, 20 grains old 2400 (Hercules).
686+. 358156 gc, 14.5 2400.
Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt. RCBS 45-255KT 18 2400.
No rifles in IL.
Savage 220, 3" Accutips.

Muzzleloader season will be a 50/44 Harvester sabot with a .430" 225gr Hornady FTX on top of 90gr Pyrodex RS and a Win 209 primer.

Scary accurate out of my New England Huntsman 50cal. Stumbled on that load by accident trying to get rid of those bullets.

.270 Winchester
60 grains H4831
130 Nosler Partition
Remington Brass
Federal 210M primer
