What is your favorite .380ACP?

I bought a LCP yesterday for $150. It had been fired a couple of times and the owner did not like it. I bought some ammo for it and the first round FTF. After that it ran fine. I am not an auto guy, but the price was right.

Sig 232

My favorite .380ACP based on how often I shoot it is the SIG 232. This is one of my carry guns and I have found that using REMINGTON 88 grain jhp, I can shoot the same score as my 9m.m. or .40 S&W pistols.

It has night sights, a good trigger, a very safe manual of operations due to the HAMMER DROPPING lever and has proven very reliable.
The heavy spring can be overcome by cocking the hammer before retracting the slide.

My second favorite would be the BERETTA 84 Cheetah. It is larger than the SIG, but has a 13 round magazine. It makes a good house or car gun if you cannot handle the recoil of a 9m.m. It is completely reliable with FEDERAL Hydra Shok ammo, which is what I use in it.

I have shot others, but so far, these are the ones that I would trust my life to.

Jim

I've never owned a .380 before. I've been a 9mm Luger (Springfield XDm & SIG P938) and .38/.357 (S&W Model 60 & Colt Python) guy.

But yesterday, I took delivery of a SIG P232 for the wife. I really love the feel of it. I think I'm more anxious to try it out than she is.

BTW...my first post on THR. Happy to be here!

Very nice. Someday I would like to own one and welcome to THR.

Welcome to THR! That is a nice looking SIG. they are super accurate to. I'm sure you both enjoy it.

CZ 83. I dig that baby the most!

Feel, handling, capacity, features, accuracy, reliability, ammo tolerance, Czech!

For me it's the kittens whiskers.

Exactly how I feel about my CZ-82 !

Same gun, slightly different caliber, (and no background check - shipped directly to my home, with my C&R FFL). Costs a lot less than the CZ-83.

To each his own. Enjoy bro. !:)

The Ruger LCP, as it's the only .380 Auto I own, though the Beretta 85 has a special place in my heart. If I ever start reloading I'll pick one up to play around with at the range.

I went into one of the LGS' today, and ran across several Sig P232's; one used, and one in stainless, the other black.

The used one had some mileage on it, so I opted for a new one in stainless.

It's a great, well built pistol. I took it, along with my Colt Government .380 to the range, and broke in the Sig. I cleaned it first, and slathered the moving parts with Shooter's Choice red grease. I then loaded it up, with an amalgam of .380 ammo; Sig, Winchester, Fiocchi, and Federal.

The P232 ran over 100 rounds without a single FTF or FTE. Everything fed smoothly.

It's an extremely accurate pistol. At 7 yards, and point shooting, everything stayed in the 7-ring. When I took careful aim, the 10 ring was easily obliterated. It shoots far better than I do.

The DA pull is typical, and not bad. The SA is a bit long, but that's compared to my 1911's, so it's really acceptable.

The recoil is straight back, and is more noticeable than my Colt .380.

The finish is very nice, and the stainless is heavier than the black finish model by over 5 ounces. I think the trade-off is very acceptable.

This is my second DA/SA gun, but my first SIG. It's really finished well, and the only thing I would change, would be the magazine release. I still prefer the top-of-the-grip style. The other thing I will change will be the grips. I think wood or micarta would be preferable.

Overall, a great pistol, and it will go into the carry rotation.

I have a thing for .380's. Currently own a CZ 83, CZ 82(obviously not a .380), Bersa Thunder and Sig P232. I have a hard time deciding which is my favorite b/c they appeal to me for different reasons. I really want a Cheetah 85. That will be my next purchase. I also like the P238 but can't shoot it well for some reason.

The other thing I will change will be the grips.

pendennis, Congrats on the new P232. If your Sig has the original plastic grip panels, you may want to try the Hogue polymer, finger bump style grip. There's a pic of it in this thread somewhere. Helps tame the recoil and fells very positive and sure.

added a pic to make it easy.

Many years ago, a LGS had the Sterling Model 400S, NIB. I bought one, shot it a couple of times, cleaned and lubed it, and put it away. Recently, a neighbor bought a S&W Bodyguard, with laser. We went to the range, and I brought that old Sterling along. At 15 yards, with the laser on, the friend was able to rock plates set up for 9x19 pistols. Oddly, the Sterling, with the same .380 ACP ammo, knocked them down, all of them. I was actually faster with the Sterling than the neighbor with the laser-equipped Bodyguard. Hadn't even handled it beyond routine maintenance in over two decades.

I guess my absolute favorite .380 is my Coltgard finish Government Model .380.

I have a couple of comments, though. For those who have the magazine release while pocket carrying, are you using a holster?

The other is about "The FEG PA63 9x19 short ." No such animal. The 9mm Corto is the 9x17 (.380) also called the 9mm Kurtz (Germanic) or 9mm Corto (Italian).

Anybody mention the BT PLUS? A popular gun with a nice 15+1 capacity. Fun at the range and easy to carry. Who can pick favorites?

Good to see so many positive posts on the Sig P232. I just picked one up today. I have been pocket carrying a Taurus TCP that has been 100% reliable. I really want a Bersa Thunder 380 Plus. So many 380s, so little cash lol

Picking out my favorite .380acp. is very hard for me as it is one of my favorite rounds! It not the most best for S.D. but it works! It has even been used in combat! Some very fine military designs have come out over the years! These old classices are great guns! Also the newer guns that have come out are great design's themselves! At this point I have gotten rid of some that I truely regret! But the one that I use the most would be the Kel-Tec P3AT. My other favorite is a SIGARMS 238. It dosn't get shot much or carried much as it is a safe gun.
By the way, there have been some great guns listed & shown! Thanks for the pictures! Good thread!
