We get by with two handguns and a shotgun. That's are home defense firearms choices
The Ruger SR22 is often overlooked by everyone for target fun and defense. It is perfectly reliable with CCI Minimags, has no recoil, it is extremely accurate, easy to load, very easy to conceal or carry since it is very lightweight and compact. For those that would refuse to rely on a 22lr, then use a Ruger SR9C. Same attributes as the SR22, just a little bigger.my townhome is in a quiet, safe, out of the way, unpretentious, suburban neighborhood with a dedicated security patrol. my main bedside piece is currently a 2” taurus 85 snubbie loaded with 38sp wadcutters. my usual carry piece, also kept bedside at night, is a keltec p32.
i’m swimming against the tide here by thinking of making my bedside piece a ruger sr22. why? i practice the most with it. it’s loaded with reliable cci minimags. at 20’ without thinking much i can consistently dump a ten round mag into center mass. i can reload it fast. the lower flashbang of 22lr ammo won’t disorient my aim, sight or hearing if i must use it fast indoors without hearing protection. call me nuts?
My HD gun: SIG P229R-E2 9mm. with a SIG STL-900L Tactical Light and Laser and 3 15 rnd. magazines.

I bought mine used but like new in the box. It also came with the E2 grips and 3 mags. It has night sights (dim but still glow 11 years later) and has the short reset trigger. Got the gun primarily for Home Defense as I liked the idea of having the first shot double action.

You can get a conversion barrel to turn your 40 caliber P229 into a 9mm whenever you want.
That will be my next firearms purchase.
