As the title says, what is your truck gun and why? How do you carry your weapon (ie. gun rack, weapons case, in the trunk if you are one of those car driving types, behind the back seat etc.). Is it loaded or do you keep ammo near by?

Currently my vehicle arsenal consists of a winchester 30-30 secured under the backseat of my jeep in a leather scabbard. Came with the rifle didnt want to seperate them. I havent had any problems with corrosion rust etc. Just take it out every other week and wipe it down with some light oil, and do a funcion check... I just keep a box of ammo stuck in the scabbard with the weapon.

So how bout you?

PDW, AR-15 Pistol...

Since I have a CCL, it stays loaded if it is with me. I can put it in the back seat in a small bag(broken down or together)or under my back seat after I fold the seat down. I have just been waiting to be pulled over with that beast in the car:evil: !
:eek:fficer:"Do you have any weapons in the car?"
:S2MC:"Umm, yes sir I am legally carrying 2 pistols with my CCL"
:Officer:"For my safety and yours, I would like to hold on to them for the duration of this stop."
:S2MC:"Well the Glock is on my hip at three o'clock, and the other pistol is under my back seat."
:Officer: (removes my Glock and then looks under the back seat)"***!!!!!!
 :uhoh: Are you sure this is a ,"pistol":scrutiny: !!!???"
:S2MC:"Yep!!!!!!:D"

I carry a truck gun because Beef is what's for dinner. I make the rounds
driving to 6 farms daily; and my requirements are short, light, handy,
magazine capicity of at least 10, enough punch to kill a large dog,
stainless and user friendly.
I have carried probably 100 different rifles. Just about anything you
can name in the C&R field, all the remington bolts, Ak's, Hk-91, M1-a,
Ar's, even a Daewoo dr-200. Also 22lr in semi-auto and bolt.
My favorite is a Taurus 172 in 17 hmr. The fragile bullet breaks up on
impact. It is not too loud. It has such a slim receiver that I can close
my hand and carry it for long periods without fatigue. I sure like this
little rifle.

I carry a truck (Jeep Cherokee) gun because I hunt my terriers and hunting is not catch and release. I routinely use the gun on groundhogs, raccoons, opossums, skunks and armadillos. A pistol would be fine for 99% of my gun work with the terriers but I like a rifle for the 1% of the time. My truck and walking around gun is .22 WMR 77/22 All Weather with a Leupold 2x7 Compact on it. It's a rugged, low maintenance, perfectly reliable, nicely accurate and comfortably light package. .22 WMR is relatively quiet and has just the step up in power I want from .22LR in case I get a chance at a coyote, fox, beaver or anything else that is at rifle instead of pistol range. The rifle is carried with a loaded magazine and an empty chamber with the safety off and trigger pulled as the bolt is closed in a good quality (Boyt) soft case. The back seat is normally folded down and the cargo area filled with a six hole dog box and other various accoutrements necessary to the day. The rifle rides right behind the front seat where it is handy and safe. I like my little Ruger a lot.

I carry a Yugo SKS. It strikes me as the perfect truck gun. It isn't going to break, it's made for combat and notoriously tough, reliable, mine gets 2 MOA with Wolf which is all the accuracy I need...it is adequately powerful for any task I ask of it and it is inexpensive and easy to replace. I would carry it behind the seat but there is a gas tank there so I just have it thrown up on the dash board.

My favorite truck gun is my glock 19 i carry on my hip everywhere i go .
It is conceiled and fully loaded with 18 rounds (a plus 2 on the bottom of the mag.) It is the same gun i shoot in combat pistol matches i beleive in shoot and practice with what you carry.

i keep an ar-15 w/ the 30 round mag loaded in the gun and a remington 870 12 gauge in the window gun rack.

i'll take 'em out once in awhile, but not very often because its too easy to forget to put them back. lately i've had my 7-08 riding in the passenger seat, but usually its the 300 win mag.

for concealed carry, it is usually the sig 229, but am trying to get back to the 686.

why: i have the guns in the window so they are out of my way, but accessible if i need them. ar-15 w/ 30-round mag because. the shotgun for becauses the ar is unfit for. the bolt gun i keep for pests, usually skunks, but coyotes, feral dogs, etc all fall to the bolt...

I always carry either a 1911 or my East German Mak and a 1954 Romanian M44 that was Bubba'd to a 16.5" barrel.

Now if my "truck" for the day happens to be my Goldwing, well, I ain't teiilin'.:neener:

Nothing. I don't leave guns in any of my vehicles if at all possible.

Only time a gun is in my vehicle is when its strapped to my hip.;)

They would last about 5 minutes here in Tucson. The window would be broken out and the guns gone before you came back out from the Circle K with your Big Gulp drink

I keep an M44 Mosin Nagant in my trunk along with a case of 7.62x54R ammo. It is a cheap, accurate, and handy carbine. I only check it out once or twice a year, so I leave a good coat of oil on it (inside and outside) before putting it back in it's soft case and putting it back in my trunk.

lenny- yeah, i know... i used to live in so. california. i live here now, and would no longer live in a place like that - where people and property are not respected by other people or the laws they write. another little secret: i never, ever take the keys out of the vehicle (like the guns, if i take them out, i'll forget to put them back, and then getting the truck started the next time is a nuisance).

i've only ever been questioned about my guns in my truck once - someone was peering into my truck, and i happened to come out. he didn't expect me to be back at that moment, and i startled him. he says 'oh...umm, did you know you have a gun in your truck?' i informed him that there should be because that's where i left it, and that i also have one on my hip and unless he thought he needed to see it, he best move along. he indicated he'd rather not see it, and left. and i never had any troubles...

yeah, i leave guns in my truck. if i need them, that is the most likely place i will be in need at.

I'm in Florida. I have in the trunk of my car a Bushmaster AR15 A4 Shortie with a 100 rd beta mag ready to slap in.

:)

You never know when the zombies come.

dakotasin, my friend, I'm jealous. One day I plan on living in a place where I can do likewise. Since I'm still here in the urban jungle I have to keep from providing weapons to the bad guys. Had a buddy that lost his custom Caspian 1911 his dad made for him about 2 weeks ago. Parked his ride at his apartment (gone less than 10 minutes), ran up for some paperwork and when he came back the gun was gone. He kept it in the center console. He's not happy cause not only did he lose a keepsake from his dad but the though of someone getting shot from it weighs on his mind.

Like I said, if I lived in an area where I could feel comfortable leaving a rifle in the gun rack I probably would without second thought. Until then, I'm keeping them out of sight. ;)

i dont keep one in the car, but im thinking about putting one in. i was gonna get a 4in diameter chunk of PVC pipe, two end caps and spray paint the whole thing black. mount it in the trunk past the door and put that egg crate foam on the inside. then i was gonna put the yugo 59/66 in there with one of the ammo pouches it came with full of strippers, and on the other end cap get a cheapie 22, maybe another sw 22a sport or a used ruger 22/45 and mount it on the other end cap with a box of 22s.

seems like it would be out of the way, and convienent, but im going to play with the idea more and check into the legalities around me more.

I carry my Sig 220 everywhere I go, but do have a dedicated truck rifle; a Marlin 30-30. I keep 2 boxes of ammo with it. I thought about replacing it with either my M1A, or my Swedish Mauser, but the Marlin is just so darned handy and quick to shoulder. Besides, I would be crushed if some jerk stole my M1A, or my Swede out of my truck. Also, the Marlin just looks less threatening to a cop.

That's the way I look at it also. You hardly ever hear of anyone getting mugged, shooting a road hit deer, or stopping bad situations from getting worse while sitting in their gun room.

A pre-64 Winchester 94 carbine rides in my truck all the time, magazine loaded, chamber empty, in a soft case along the front of the front seat, out of sight. Have about 50 rounds handy, often more, and a couple of a pistols (Smith revolvers) are usually rattling around on the front seat amongst the coats, gloves, tools, ammo, dog hair, mail, binocs, etc that clutter the seat. Why those? Because they work, always, and are enough for what needs to be done around the neighborhood or going to town.

I try to clean the truck guns a couple times a year, unless they have been carried in the rain or snow. They get carried some every day while with the dogs in the hills.

TRUNK gun(s)

I keep a slightly chopped Yugo SKS w/100 rounds on strippers, mag loaded w/10, chamber empty. Also a Charter Arms .38 with holster, 2 speed loaders, extra box of Silver Tips with the SKS ammo, and 50 rounds of .380 for the Bersa Thunder (my CHL piece). Other than that, the rest are at home.:D

Good Lord Doug, if you ever truly needed that much firepower, then you'd better sure as hell reexamine your predicament and get your ass out of there before you get artillary called in on you!

For me, if I carry at all, it's a Stoeger Coach Gun 12 gauge SxS with 20 inch barrels. A few slugs, number 6, and number 1 buckshot.
