What kind of gun oil do you use?

I think you guys are missing the boat. Try Gun Butter. I posted this as a comment on their site after my first trip to Front Sight in Nevada last May:

I just returned from a week of training at Front Sight Training Institute in Nevada. I used my 1911 for the four day handgun course and my M4 for a two day rifle course. I had lubed both guns with Gun Butter about a month or so before leaving and had only fired them just before my trip. What was most amazing was that I never cleaned the 1911 or the M4 the whole time I was there; I wanted to see how well it worked. I shot about 500 rounds in the 1911 and about 200 rounds in the M4 without one single FTF, FTE or any other lube related malfunction. Great stuff!

The best thing is all you do is clean the gun one time with something like Gun Scrubber and after that there is no more need to use it. Just wipe down the gun with a rag and some patches and re-lube with Gun Butter. It's that easy.

Yes, I must admit that I use wheel bearing grease on my AR15 and my shotguns. Both of these weapons are exposed to harsh conditions. I'm an avid duck hunter. I've used my 12ga as an oar. I've packed the bore with swamp mud, and dipped in the lake to clean it. Wheel bearing grease sticks! Of course, you must be reasonable. To much of any lube is a bad thing. For my pretty firearms I use PRO-GOLD. It looks similar to the gold grease that is inside your Glock. It takes just a dab to do the job. It won't run or slough off. It comes in a syringe, so you can get it into tight spots.

I've had very good results with PRO-GOLD as well. It's one of the slickest greases I've used, it really helped smooth the trigger pull on my Tanfoglio Witness. One warning: It's only rated down to 0 degrees F, so my elk hunting gun gets lubed with something else.

For black powder or guns that will/have fired corrosive ammo I use Ballistol for cleaning and lubrication. I also use it where 'light' oil is needed or for when a gun might be exposed to the elements; sweat, rain, snow. It's my 'go to' oil.

For medium lube chores, Mobil 1.

For 'heavy' oil, STP.

For grease, Outers GunSlick.

For lube in cold weather, RemOil/kerosene/lamp oil, (basically all the same thing) or Hoppe's No. 9. (We seldom get below zero around here)

Balistol or mobile 1..... although i usually don't keep my guns as well oiled as I probably should.

Clean with Hoppes
Lube with Shooter's choice (I have a LOT of wood to keep looking good!)
RemOil Spray at the range
WD-40 for long term storage (but we are in a DRY climate)

I use tetra gun grease on slides and rails. REM oil for everything else. Im thinking of switching tetra gun grease for everything though, its real good stuff.

Put me down for Slip 2000 EWL too, been using it for a few years and it seems to be good stuff, doesn't run and doesn't burn off after just a few rounds in my AR.

Rem oil

I'm considering switching to hoppe's elite oil to get something a little thicker. I love their elite gun cleaner. Remington 40-X bore cleaner is great too, but I don't like to use it every time because of the grit you have to make sure is out of the barrel.

Can't stand gun grease.

I've never heard of EWL. What is that, who makes it? I'm the dork who is always trying new gun cleaners and oils. It seems I have one of everything. I swing shifts and when I cant sleep I clean guns...sad but true. Haven't seen EWL at my 2 lgs or the big box stores around here.

Lucas Gun Oil

I like Lucas Gun Oil the best so far. Understand Weapon Shield is very good too but haven't tried it. Used to use Rem Oil but like the Lucas better now. Doesn't disperse and evaporate in heat as bad as Rem Oil.

I have never seen it in any gun stores, even the smaller stores catered to more specialized weapons and equipment. It's worth buying IMO, I haven't used more than a 4oz bottle in the last year on all my guns, and I like to keep them clean and well-oiled, a little seems to go a long ways and it stays on where you put it.
