For example do you own your guns strictly for sd? Or maybr just hunting? a combination of both prehaps

For me its a matter of sd hunting and competition shooting and a few out of heritage.

Just an educated guess but I bet that SD will have more votes than anything else.

I got into them for collecting guns like mosins and mausers. When I was able to hunt then I gott into more sporting guns. And I have a few pistols for SD so I would say all of the above.

This poll should have an "all of the above" choice; I suspect that'd apply to many of us here. Not one of those choices fits me exclusively. If I could state only one reason, it'd be, "Because it's my right."

I just joined this website. I just joined the NRA. I just submitted paperwork for CCW in NC. I never really cared about guns. The older I get the more I see our government is out of control and trying to squash my rights. This is why I bought a gun, joined NRA and applied to carry a handgun .... because it is my right!

Yeah, but then it skews the results and will not indicate what most respondents' primary reason for gun ownership is
Primary reason?.........Any reason for gun ownership is a primary no matter how many reasons you have. Really though, I have never seen a poll thread where atleast one person has not said xxxxxx should have been an option. Aparently no poll is perfect.

I checked them all, as I wish to explore the ones I haven't done much of yet, namely hunting and competitive shooting.

But my primary reason is one of self defense, which in NJ means keeping a can of the spouse's hair spray or a can of de-icer and a lighter if you are in your car! :cuss:

I selected SD, hunging and competition. Should have chosen fun/plinking too. Definitely not heritage. Dad was never into guns and mon hated them.

I picked fun and self-defense.

I don't compete, but would like to maybe.

I don't hunt, but would definitely like to eventually.

My family has been historically indifferent to guns in and of themselves. That is, there were hunters and many service men and women, but none were really "gun people" that I know of. I remember when I bought my first gun, my mother just kind of shrugged and went on talking about whatever she was talking about. My father just said, "Mm. Be careful."

none of those describe me.

freedom of men
right to armed resistance of a tyrannical government

Thinking about it... History Buff would be a good option to include, and would describe me in addition to what I said above.
