what kind of gun owner/shooter/ person are you?

Well, I'm a suburban dwelling fat guy with a bundle of tattoos and piercings that makes a living working in a factory while tattooing, painting, drawing, recording music, and filmmaking for extra cash and enjoyment. All the guns I own are pretty much just range toys, one of which is a super tacticool EBR, because I believe everyone should own at least one, just to get it out of their system. I'm also a hardcore nerd and still buy toys, because I'm a grown-up. I can also eat ice cream for breakfast if I feel like it.

Retired Army but work for a COCOM now, I wear birkenstocks or full-quill ostrich ropers. Devoted fan of live classical music but am a fanatic about the Texas Sapphires on my iPod. Bought the wifey a Rolex two decades ago to ensure she wouldn't mind when I bought two. Black Lab and a poodle. Three cats. Vote conservative but detest RINO's. CC with either a Walther PP or a Crimson Trace equipped Colt Commander. Own an Oly and don't care about "the chart". I blame all of this on a severe case of Garanditis. So, what box do you fit me in?

Hate the redneck life style, seriously, sleeves people and cut the mullet  Larry the Cable Guy is NOT funny, the pun is the lowest form of humor. Love anything to do with cars, except nascar, boring and the fans are not enjoyable (the serious ones). Love high class establishment, quality tea and coffee (iced coffee and hot tea). Don't care for beef or pork, I prefer poultry and seafood. Really like Japanese and Thai. Those big slabs of BBQ everyone brags about in the south, not so good. If you have to add tons of sauce to get it to taste good why bother. Yet I freaking love frozen burritos and nachos, the nastier the better. Not a beer fan, have a very select few, HATE wine and champagne, prefer quality scotch. I am kind of a Seattle mentality if you add common sense and remove the a-hole attitude.

When it comes to guns for me it has to be useful. I don't buy one just to buy one, and if I don't use it I get rid of it. I would rather have one really nice gun instead of a safe full of cheap guns, yet my favorite gun to shoot is my $35 22lr Wards Western Field (Savage Model 4). I have 4 right now and I shoot them all. Going to get one more and call it good, for now. :D Like to hunt though I stink at it. Am now getting into shotguns and pigeon shooting. Love to play with guns, although I think I prefer restoring them instead of shooting them, cheaper than cars and boats. I don't care if my friends don't own or want guns. Friends are more important to me.

And I will try anything once, as long as it's dead.

I was born in the country, lived in the country my entire life, and I have been shooting guns since I could walk. I like country food, ( I am single and this is what I know how to make myself) old time music, and country living. I collect military surplus arms because I enjoy the history of it all, and I am a preservationist when it comes to historical firearms no matter what the type. I shoot as well, but with glasses thick as coke bottles I am not much of a shot past 100 yards these days. I have a pile of modern firearms of all sorts from "evil" black rifles to .22's. I don't hunt much these days but when I did I was something of a traditionalist, I like lever guns, and side by side double shotguns, SAA revolvers, my favorite rifles are my 50/70 US 1868 Springfield, and 1873-88 45/70 Springfields, all of them firing real black not that smokeless stuff, and of course my sharps 1874. I read a lot, mostly history and firearms related books, I have a 1000+ DVD library of everything, but I go heavy on older movies, TV shows, and documentary's.
My business is scrap metal, and cars are a big part of that, I can't stand anything newer than the 60's when it comes to motor transportation, My ride is a 1930 Model A, and that's only when I am not in my '25 Model T.
I am fooling with firearms one way or another most of the time as do my friends, reloading, casting bullets, selling crap on ebay to get more gun money, cruising the flea markets, and gun shows for yet more guns, gun books, gunparts, or ammo.
Ideal summer afternoon for me is to relax in my chair outdoors under the shade tree with my shotgun by my side, good cigar in my mouth, feet propped up on the running board of my T reading Shotgun news as I play records on my Victrola.

I don't guess I can really be easily categorized. I've got a college degree and a few certifications for different fields, but I live out in the boonies in Central Texas and wouldn't want to live in a town or city again. Ah no propper ainglish but ah kin speak bubba tew.
I don't drink beer, go off-roading or get into racing much but I like muscle cars, hunting and fishing. I've owned a van and 3 or 4 pickups now. I have a reasonable selection of HD/SD firearms and I don't buy a gun without a specific use for it in mind anymore. These days it's generally hunting or a multi-purpose weapon.
Of course if I had the money I would have a collection that would fill a house or two, but I have to live on a pretty tight budget so I buy what I need and once in a blue moon I buy a gun I just want.

Hmmmm... lemme see here...

I'm the kind of gun owner who has been around them my whole life. The kind that learned to chant the four golden rules before I could even recite the pledge of allegiance. The kind who has hunted cute furry animals and then brutally murdered them with a firearm, only to eat their flesh and keep their pelts. I'm the kind of gun owner who has had at least one firearm in my possesion since age 15. I've carried a handgun since I was 21. I'm the gun guy that would be first at the muster field for the militia. The gun guy that has forgotten more about firearms than most will learn in a lifetime. I could be considered a "billy-bob-redneck" but I don't think that has much to do with my love of firearms. I was never in the military, don't care to ever be a cop (No disrespect, it just doesn't pay enough) not in the NRA, and not a professional expert. I just exercise my second amendment rights on a daily basis the same as I do the other rights guaranteed by our constitution.

I own guns because I can, and because I think shooting sports are the most noble pursuit of happiness.

I'm country but I'm educated, I have a bachelors degree and I like to keep an open mind. I grew up hunting but don't do so so much anymore due to accessibility issues. I've always liked guns, for as long as I remember. I carry a gun just about everywhere I go. I like to be in the outdoors camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, etc. I like pretty much all guns and I would probably buy just about anything if the price is right because I haven't shot many guns that I didn't like shooting. I also like many others that have posted don't drink, I was surprised at how many don't.

I don't think I fall into the categories the OP suggested, so I'll go for the "Devilishly handsome cosmopolitan sophisticate" category. :D

Seriously, I've had pretty varied experiences--I grew up on a small farm in a family that didn't have much money (I remember the days of no indoor plumbing), then saw my folks achieve a fair amount of success. I went to a state university, then a top-notch East Coast law school, served 27 years in the Air Force and now live in the 'burbs of one of the nation's largest cities, commuting into the city each day. Though I am lucky enough to often travel to some pretty luxurious destinations, I'm equally, perhaps more, happy in a tent. I'm right of center, but also think that the damned liberals sometimes stumble on the right answer to certain questions. (Pisses me off. )

I'm pretty firmly of the belief that I'm typical, in the sense that there is no typical gun person. Some of us are rich, others are poor. Some are conservative, others having lefty tendencies. Some are good old boys (and girls), and others live in urban high-rises. What I would hope binds all of us is an appreciation for the fact that we are bound by principle that transcends not only our zip code, but also our class, race, and political ideology. I'm "that kind" of gun owner.

I guess I am pretty new to the gun world. Spent 10 years in the Army, so I know how to safely handle a gun. I am just new to owning one. I have a shot my 2 guns a few times and am looking forward to more range time and eventually some time hunting with my brother and father.

hmm... broad spectrum here. Small traditional midwest town raised, live in the country by choice, professional boy scout since before Y2k or "be prepared" was popular. Hunt and kill, fish, or grow and preserve almost all our own food. grew up with guns and have enough to cover any needs. 7 years education after high school, post grad degrees, elected school board member, extensive community involvement on various boards and commitees, political activist, business owner, part time small farmer with an expanding organic operation. I am comfortable in a suit and tie or in boots, jeans and carharts. terrific soul-mate wife...
and I detest chest-thumpers that go on and on about themselves.

Life long professional musician, college educated, but don't hold that against me. Grew up with guns in the periphery (grandparents and uncles), started to get into it seriously a few years ago. Love nature, travelling on my motorcycle, expensive beer (Sam Adams is fine), cigars, and a neat single malt. I compose, perform, and produce music for a living. Wouldn't say I'm a redneck 'cuz ah talk too purty, but I do have a fairly strong blue collar outlook. Have a full time playing job and run my own business. Worked almost three years as a commercial fisherman to pay for college.

CCW 24/7, have started to get into hunting, and take my son to the range regulary. When I started to really get into guns a couple of years ago, I did a fair amount of reading and research, and became pretty militant about the political aspects of it. Don't know why, but I never really gave it much thought until then. It is now my heartfelt belief that every man and woman should be armed, trained, and proficient in the use of firearms.

are you the proud redneck country boy type? (you love guns, hunting fishing, muscle cars, trucks, raceing, off roading, beer, makes up there own words, etc..) or are you a casual person that only has one target gun, ar, or fancy trap gun? or what would kind of gun owner would you consider your self.

I suggest you pick up a copy of Armed America. American gun owners are probably the most varied demographic in existence.

What kind?

Curious, I think, always looking to expand my knowledge and skill. May also be insufferably chatty, even concerning matters about which I know little or nothing (see the Spurlock entries, for instance). Otherwise, friendly and outgoing American.

im the proud redneck style everything i do and everything i say. i get called redneck alot but it dont bother me im proud

I have 2 bachelors degrees and an MBA from a big ten school. Living in the 'burbs and getting by as a real estate investor. I drive a jeep wrangler and have a 1970 mustang coupe in 10,000 pieces in the garage. My 2 dream vehicles are a turbo porsche 911 and an older ford Bronco with a diesel. My gun collection grows and shrinks. If I had the land and the time, I'd spend a lot of my free time with a chronograph just tinkering. I carry a glock 23 but don't enjoy it; I just feel an obligation to take care of myself.

I would rather shoot myself in the foot than watch NASCAR. But I do like drag racing.

Well lets see, I'm 24, have a BS degree from a good state school. I own my own company and do quite well building houses.

I hate NASCAR, I prefer to watch F1.

Lets see what group I fit into, I'm a huge Mercedes fan and go to at least a couple Mercedes shows year. I'm also a big Porsche and Ferrari fan but I can't afford to buy one of those yet. My daily driver is a Silverado. I spend most of my weekends sailing at the yacht club, and summer nights drinking scotch on my friends boats or at the lake house. When I'm not sailing I either fish, hike, camp or go shooting. If I'm not outdoors on the weekends I'm either at a little dump bar down by the water or at a trendy night club in Stamford.

A lot of people own guns in this country, you can't put them into groups.

BTW were not hicks here in CT, were Swamp Yankees.:neener:

I was born in a small farming town of about 15,000 people. I have lived all over the place, from huge cities with 10+ million people, to average sized cities of 2+ million people, to small little villages of 5,000 people.

I don't consider myself a city slicker or a country boy. I refuse to be categorized. Right now I live on 50 acres of my own land in the mountains, but I have also lived in high rise residential buildings in huge cities, I've lived in quiet farm houses where you can stand in your driveway and look for 10 miles in any direction and only see corn, I have lived in American Suburbia with rows and rows of tract homes that all look alike.

I hike, I fish, I camp, I climb, I hunt but I also cook, BBQ, play baseball and go to plays, operas, musicals, I eat in hole in the wall restaurants, 5 star restaurants and everything in between. I love guns, always have, always will. Most of the problems in this country that I see are started by people who categorize themselves. They like the category they're in, and dislike the category someone else is in. Seems foolish to me.

I don't see any reason to limit my life experience just so I can fit in someone else's category, someone else's stereotype.

I'm a city slicker, that hates nascar but loves drag racing and muscle cars and am an all around motorhead. I don't hunt at all, wear a suit and tie most of the time and own guns because there a fun hobby and self defense, oh and also I spend less on guns than I do motors.

I'm also an atheist gun owner, which I've come to find is REALLY rare.

Redneck Wannabe

I grew up in a small town in north GA, but never shot a gun, hunted, or fished with my dad, and never saw him do any of those.

Now I live out west and I'm trying to make up for a lost redneck youth. I'm a computer programmer (B.S. C.S.), with no real redneck hobbies except shooting. My 10-year-old and I just got our first small game licenses, and we're going to hunt turkey this spring, maybe some jackrabbit plinking for practice.

I mt. bike, dive, read, watch PBS (no sports), and play with computers and Linux for fun.

I own handguns, shotguns, and .22 rifles. I have a CFP and carry every day.

I am from the country and now work and live in the big city. The crime scares the hell of me so I now carry in the city and have appropriate HD arms. My old man taught me about firearms and the 2nd amendment when I was young and they have always been in my life since I was 12. I am also AD military so I try to own civilian legal copies of my duty arms so I can maintain proficiency on my own since we don't get much range time. So I gues the type of firearm owner I am is a county raised city slicker military arms user/buyer.

If I had to classify myself I'd say I'm kind of an old-school marksman. I grew up in KS and learned to shoot and reload at my dad's side. Back then it was mainly tin cans, clay pigeons (heck of a fun target at 25 or 50 yards for an offhand pistol shot) and the occasional paper target. At 43 I'm pretty much just a paper-puncher.

I appreciate a fine firearm much like I do any finely crafted, high-performance machine. I actually find shooting relaxing and that's a big part of why I'm at the range on any given day. I'm that guy at your local range that like to BS over coffee, look at whatever it is you're shooting that day and maybe see if I can't finagle a quick test drive of that new wonder-gun you're shooting in exchange for a few rounds downrange through whatever I've brought with me that day. Admittedly I'm quickly annoyed by a lack of good range-etiquette and I'll probably be the first to wander on over to your stall and politely ask that you pay a little more attention to that wandering muzzle, please.

In short I shoot because I enjoy it. Because I like the zen-like state I find myself in when shooting and, I guess, because I'm actually not half bad at it.

Leave the off road racing and beer and ya got me pegged. Some people say I'm way too conservative, but those are usually people who have never read or even looked at a copy of our Constitution. And "separation of church and state" is about the government staying out of the church.....not the church staying out of government. I HATE revisionist history! And they need to leave 2 A alone as well!

I am a pastor (Masters degree), who likes to hunt and fish though i don't get to often. I have a few long guns and have recently purchased my first handgun. I have had it out a few times and enjoy shooting it. Have the 4-wheelers and loved to ride them with my sons when we got a chance. As for the beer and being a redneck, not me.

I work in a financial services office, but working on a welding certification. I grew up in the mountains... typical coal-mine-town hillbilly stuff. I held onto what was good about that, but have lived in an urban area for the last 10 years. Not really into "country" stuff (nascar, hunting, etc) but respect it. I do the standard "man stuff" (football watchin', beer drinkin', wing eatin', garage sittin') I hate anything pretentious.

I got into firearms when my daughter was born because I started feeling like 1 man trying to protect 2 other people + himself against who knows how many others was out of my capability. A few facts and a trip to the gun store got my wife on board as well (she's getting her CCP in a few weeks). I didn't grow up around guns, my father had a few shotguns but they were always kept out of my sight.
