I shoot primarily because it is fun for me. But I never forget that the purpose of it all is because it is a skill that it useful. It puts food on the table and could one day save my life. So I orient my practice sessions to reflect this, and even when I am having fun, I remember to take it seriously enough to gain something and learn every time I go out.
So I selected the first three options; fun, self defense, and hunting.
I don't do any competition yet. I am in the process of finding another job and moving. This next 12 to 18 months could be hectic for me. But when things get settled down, I plan on taking my M1A to some Appleseed events, and possibly looking up some 2 and 3 gun matches.
