Welcome to The High Road, DannyBoy2008 and Joe Cool!

I checked 'em all. :D

bluestarlizzard, your comment sounds like the way that I talk about guns. :)

I grew up in a family with a long tradition of hunting and shooting. As for SD, I live in a small Mid-western town where most folk don't lock their doors......and my 80lb drahthaar is quicker on the draw and just as effective against the occasional Jehovah's Witness as anything.

target shooting mostly. Never been hunting. Never cared too. I know i could do it and do it pretty good too. too many years of target shooting at different yards with different types of guns

My grandfather in Austria kept an unregistered pistol, after the Nazis had banned and seized them.

RKBA is kind of a family tradition, I guess.:)

And as a Californian, of course I have to eat organic, grass-fed, free-range meat. Well, going to Whole Foods is kinda boring and doesn't involve gunpowder. That leaves only one real alternative, since my Austrian genetics make me too lazy to farm.

Of course, one needs to practice... So you might as well sign up for at least some casual competitions...

My wife would consider me a gun collector. I wouldn't, because I know real gun collectors and I'm not one of them. However, various and sundry firearms do follow me home now and again, and they don't seem to leave as often as they come...

Only reason I didn't check `em all was I can't physically hunt anymore and would only compete for laughs as my eyes and steadiness seem to have faded a tad!

I shoot primarily because it is fun for me. But I never forget that the purpose of it all is because it is a skill that it useful. It puts food on the table and could one day save my life. So I orient my practice sessions to reflect this, and even when I am having fun, I remember to take it seriously enough to gain something and learn every time I go out.

So I selected the first three options; fun, self defense, and hunting.

I don't do any competition yet. I am in the process of finding another job and moving. This next 12 to 18 months could be hectic for me. But when things get settled down, I plan on taking my M1A to some Appleseed events, and possibly looking up some 2 and 3 gun matches.

I'm not a competion shooter. Everything else fit good.

I'm an omnivour(spelling?) when it comes to guns...and my collection shows it!

Mark.

I clicked 'em all except competition, even tho I really don't get to hunt very much.

The most common reason I shoot is for fun. The most important reason I shoot is for self-defense (or at least to prepare for such an event). I clicked hunting as well, although I don't do that nearly as often as I'd like. And, of course, the check against tyranny that an armed populace provides is a worthwhile endeavor in which to participate.

I do not understand any American that eschews firearms when they are available to possess. To me that is the same thing as not voting.

none of those describe me.

freedom of men
right to armed resistance of a tyrannical government

Same here.

Indeed, the Second Amendment does not have much to do with a gratifying hobby and recreational activity or thwarting garden-variety criminals.

these 'why do you have guns?' polls turn up every so often, yet none of them seem to have a good answer for 'well, i just like guns'.

SD is primary, but if its just SD you only need a couple of guns, and me and dad would have hit that limit long ago. we collect. and we shoot for fun. but i think the primary reason for the majority of our firearms, is just 'cause we go 'thats so cool, must have one'.

so a good addition would be 'i just like guns' to further polls.

All of the above.

I didn't want to vote for fear that as soon as I entered one choice, that would be it. I own guns for too many reasons than can be said here in a few sentences.

most of my guns have a purpose, ie sd/ccw/hd, but there are a few that i have just for fun. plus i have been around shooing my whole life as i was raised around them and raised to shoot. i am not a hunter and don't do much competition.
