are you the proud redneck country boy type? (you love guns, hunting fishing, muscle cars, trucks, raceing, off roading, beer, makes up there own words, etc..) or are you a casual person that only has one target gun, ar, or fancy trap gun? or what would kind of gun owner would you consider your self.

Proud country boy. Except for the racing and off-roading I could care less about either. Otherwise all of the above on your list.

Let's see...
I'm 40 years old and have a BS from a major state university, and I graduated with a 3.4ish gpa.

I went back to school and became an RN and am pursuing becoming an anesthesia nurse.

I've also worked as a professional diver (done SAR, salvage, etc.), taught 7th and 8th grade english and social studies, am happily married and have two great kids. My father graduated from one of the best universities in the country/world (opinions vary depending on which branch of the service you served in) and my mother did the same from a prestigious civilian university.

I own guns for two purposes: self defense and pleasure. I enjoy plinking and doing advanced combatives courses. With the exception of the pistols given to me by my grandfather, all my firearms are users and geared toward the defensive firearm type. As a free citizen of the United States of America, I feel it is one of my duties to exercise my 2nd amendment right. On a personal level, I feel it is my duty to maintain the capacity to protect my wife and kids from criminals.

I'm pretty much a suburbanite. I have no real experience with hunting and no particular desire to get any. It isn't that I have a moral objection to it, I just haven't really had an introduction to it. If a buddy of mine wanted to take me hunting, it would probably be a different story. (Personally I think it is more ethical to eat what you hunted than to just buy it from the store, but... I'm just kind of lazy!:D)

I am senior in college and will be graduating in may with 3.7GPA and double major in Applied Mathematics and Civil Engineering. As far as guns go, I am just southern(redneck) gun nut. I love big trucks, muscle cars and hunting. I spend pretty much every weekend either shooting guns, hunting, or going to the gun show, or all three:D. All of my guns are rugged work horses, nothing fancy.

Similar to David904: two graduate degrees from an Ivy league university with an undergrad degree from a top liberal arts university. Left the private sector to go on full-time active duty because I believe in service to country and giving back.

I'm a gun owner because I'm a big believer in the phrase, "When seconds count, the police are minutes away." I own several pistols because they each serve a specific function or fill a certain niche -- I don't collect them just for kicks. So I'm not a gun nut. That said, I try to hit the range regularly and take lessons because I believe in being proficient with a weapon so that if I ever have to use it in self-defense, I (hopefully) will use it properly and appropriately.

Masters educated NYC kid here who loves shooting, fishing, 4wheeling,beers,and muscle cars. Want to go hunting but never have. Moved to Pennsylvania and hope to soon remedy the hunting thing.

I'm afraid I don't fit into either of the boxes you have set up.

I don't consider myself a redneck or a Nascar fan. I do drive a truck, but not for image, but because a truck fits my lifestyle better than a car.

Country boy, yes. But don't expect me to fit in some box because of that.

Warrior. Everything from hand-to-hand to firearms. When seconds count, you can't be running for a gun. I only view a firearm as a single tool in the arsenal. It's a good tool, sure. You have to train with it and you must be meticulous about cleaning and maintenance.

I'm not sure how to fit myself into your list.

My guns are a real hodge-podge group. Most are old. Not classy antiques, just not latest bestest. Most are plinker types, but I have seven mil-surps. There are six shotguns in the safe but I don't even shoot clays very often. I hunt a little...but mostly for the time with the guys. There are only four pistols. I do not compete.

So, maybe I am just a mild red neck. Mild because I don't smoke, drink, dip, or chew. However, I do like the muscle cars, off roading is fun, I drive a truck and don't mind noodling for catfish. :D

I'm 60 this year...so there is the old part of "good 'ole boy"...

A Brit living in Texas who hadn't touched a gun in his life till a month or two ago. Now I have three guns and my CHL should arrive in the mail soon. I'm comfortable having the guns in the house but I lock them in a safe when I have visitors (and my visitors from the UK freak out at the idea of guns anywhere nearby). I'm sure it will feel weird when I start carrying soon.

City living yuppie who doesnt not smoke/chew, hates NASCAR, loves futbol, Grand Prix and fine clothes, brews his own beer - yet owns more firearms than "needed".

I own my firearms mainly because I can.

I don't think I fit any of the above categories very well

I'm a California born Chinaman who just moved back to the United States after spending 15 years living in the Philippines. I'm also currently a 3rd Year College Student. I used to shoot a bit in the Philippines, so it was just natural for me to pick up some firearms when I got to being the legal age in the United States. I'm a big history buff, so I'm into collecting old milsurp toys primarily for the historical value, though I love shooting them just as much. I've also got several other non milsurp pistols for defense/ccw and the range, and a shotgun for clays/HD usage.

I'm kind of an eccentric guy, I collect toy robots, play video games, and practice the accordion. I also don't drink, and I'm obsessed with funny hats and classic styled trenchcoats

Proud country boy, minus the beer, I don't drink.:) Its all about Jeepin', ATV'n, guns, camping, and hiking. Of course, living in Colorado certainly makes these persuits easy.:) I'm also an avid reloader, pretty much a hardcore gun hobbyist who is fascinated by everything guns, I find ballistics fascinating too.:D

I think you will find a vast population of gun owners, most don't post here on this website. You'll find single liberal Moms to hard core shooters and everything in between. You'll even find gun owners that don't believe anyone should own a gun (except them). Gun ownership in the USA is too varied to put the owners into a convenient category. Go to a gun range near a big city and you will see a full cross section of Americans (and non-Americans for that matter).
Except for the large populations in and around the big cities America is mostly rural and attitudes about firearms are more relaxed. Guys that hang out on this website might be representative of a smaller group but generally guns are represented by every type of person.

Thanx, Russ

You mean besides a responsible one? :neener:

I'm a city boy. Don't really drink, never been hunting. My interest came from guns being sort of a "taboo" around here. All the "guns are bad" talk kind of pushed me into it to discover it was all poppycock, lol. I'm extremely laid back, kind of a work out buff. Not too much to know about me.

Nice thread idea to get kind of a background story on you guys.

I got into guns "because I can" after emigrating here from the UK. Same reason I drive a big pickup that would be considered absolutely ridiculous on the narrow congested British streets!

I do feel safer with my guns. Would prefer that no one but me has a gun! LOL. Could that be arranged? (Difference between individual risk and societal risk).

Retired telephone company employee. Purchased our handguns for HD/SD but have really enjoyed target shooting. Still have my shotgun from past hunting days but gave that up because of too many nuts in the woods. Enjoyed skiing and tennis in the past but now spend most of my spare time taking care of our small farm and training and riding our horses. Love football (big Colts fan and Va. Tech fan), and enjoy watching golf although I can't play worth a crap! Looking forward to Tigers explanation on Friday! :)

Average suburbanite here, two kids, wife, dog, house, shotgun. I love shooting. It started when I was in the army(11M). I fired everything from the M-16 to Mk 19 to 25MM bushmaster, I have owned multiple firearms since then.....love shooting them, cleaning them....everything about them

A little bit of everything. A bit country, a little tiny bit city, a bit geek, a bit sports kinda guy (and a huge Iowa wrestling fan - but only if the wrestlers wrestle a good "Iowa style".)

Some ugly beater guns that get the job done, nicer ones that get the job done. But I would also love to have a high dollar shotgun, and a couple correct grade Garands.

I graduated from an Idaho college with a BS degree in Management, 3.9 GPA, Presidents List and all that hoo haa! Then, I went to Graduate school to get my MBA. After School, I worked in business management positions till I retired a couple of years ago.

Since I was a small child, I had a gun in my hands. I was a crack shot at 7 with a Daisy BB gun. I got my first 22 when I was 11 and the same year got my Winchester model 94 (pre 64) 30-30 for Christmas.

I killed and field dressed my first deer when I was 12. Then later I got involved in trapping, bow hunting, black powder and outdoor survival and primitive technology.

I have 5 sons and 7 daughters and all but my 18 year old son is married. I have 36 grandkids plus one more boy on the way. I have always been blessed to be able to do everything I've always wanted. I've been a horseman and hound (big game) hunter. I've been a cowboy, trapper, computer technician for Dell, business manager, Sergeant in the NG, football & basketball player, mountain man, cowboy action shooter, houndsman, father, husband and grandfather and theologian. What more could I ever ask for? So, I guess I don't know exactly what category of gun owner I am.

I've been called "a walking paradox" more than once.

Civil Engineer by profession, like to play with all things mechanical as a hobby, grew up in a very well to do neighborhood but drove a 18 year old lifted beat all to hell 4x4 pickup by choice, still drive a 25 yo truck as a daily driver, again, by choice (I just have a soft spot for 80-86 F-series:) ). I'll swill beer in the local dive and fit right in or slide into a fitted suit and go to the most posh trendy restaurant downtown and not be out of place one bit.

I always grew up shooting and see my well being as my personal responsibility, that's the only group I feel i really fall into.

Just in my last year finishing up my Bachelor's degree in economics and political science. City boy, who knows nothing about guns. Still learning to shoot, just have the one handgun.

I'm California born and raised. I became a gun owner a few years ago and quite a nice collection now. I've never been hunting but want to go. I've never been camping in a tent but want to go. I consider myself more pro-gun than average. I'm a patent lawyer. I also have a real estate broker license. I have an Engineering degree from one of the most, if not the most, competitive engineering programs in the United States. My passion for guns is #3 behind #1 playing the piano and #2 snowboarding.

EDIT: I just reread this post. My bio is a strange mix of a lot of different things...LOL

I don't fit your list. I live in the country because I like elbow room and hate crowds and people are friendlier here. I'm an engineer. I designed and built machines. Now I fix them. When I was a kid I took everything apart I could get my hands on and usually put it back together and it worked. I've scratched for everything I have and worked so many jobs in my life I can't remember them all. If it burns fuel or uses electricity I play with it. I'm not into artistic fine details and patience, like wood carving or painting or the fine arts or stuff like that but I appreciate a craftsman's work when I see it.

I was taught to Be Prepared and Always Do A Good Turn Daily and to respect my elders and care for children and animals and thank God for another day above ground. I bargain hard but fair, don't waste anything, and take care of the Earth that I am a steward of. I don't bother nobody else and don't hold on them bothering me. I want a small government and a big family and it ain't about getting what you want but wanting what you got.

Sorry I don't fit your boxes.
