I am wondering why the major ammo makers don't make special runs of obsolete calibers? Could it be liability, or is there no profit in it. I know that in my 401 Winchester, I would buy cases of it.
What calibers would you like to see made again?

Hmmm... I THINK it's 303 Savage... I'm sick of having my cousin whine about it and spending half the time at a gun show looking for a box :D

I don't know if they are necessarily "obsolete", but I have passed on several well-made guns that I would have liked to get, for the want of good, reasonably-easy- to- find ammunition.

Don't laugh, but I would very much like to have gotten that French (!) MAS rifle (the autoloader.... MAS 56?). Looked to be built like a tank, and it was in very good shape. Only problem was it was chambered in 7.5 French, and the only place I remember seeing it was in the Shotgun News, and that was for some dubious surplus crap.

ANM

Oh, boy, my turn!

Hmmm. Lessee.

.25 Remington
.30 Remington
.32 Remington
6.5x53R Dutch Mannlicher
.351 Winchester Self-Loading
9mm Steyr
.256 Newton
7.62x45 Czech
.38 AMU

Don't get me wrong, I handload most of the above obsolete calibers already for my own esoteric firearms collection. But I'd dearly love to see the commercial ammo factories make decent, affordable batches of the above, so as to replenish my brass supply. Dangerous Dave and his crew at Old Western Scrounger makes basically anything one can dig up from the annals of metallic cartridge history, but his stuff isn't exactly cheap. :(

Another vote for the .303 Savage! Or at the very least I wish someone, like Starline for example, would start producing brass for it. I realize they wouldn't sell a lot but it is a niche that needs filling.
While they're at it maybe some .219 Zipper too?

Since I just got one of the Swiss K31's, I'd just like some reasonably priced 7.5 Swiss. Hopefully with as many surplus rifles being sold, someday it might happen.

The larger caliber rimfires would be nice to have back, or maybe some of the harder to get "cowboy" ammo, like 45-120 Sharps. Also, I'd love to see INEXPENSIVE ($1.50 or less a round) 450 NE ammo.

I guess I'm dreaming on that last one, though. :D

Another vote for 7.5 Swiss. GP11 ammo is spendy, FMJ and Berdan primed. Norma price is stratospheric. K-31's are way too fun to be safe queens.

50/70 for my Trapdoor, dog-goneit!
Getting tired of cobbleing together, a cartridge to fire in it.
Come on guys, you do 45/70, why not 50/70?

As Gewehr 98 mentioned, .351 WSL.

.41 Long Colt

Couple of the now-discontinued loadings of common cartridges - - The ultra-strong bullets in 220 gr for .30'06. The only commercial loads now have too much lead exposed.

Heavy bullets for the .303 British.

Best,
Johnny

.32-20 would be my first choice. There are actually still quite a few shootable guns out there in that caliber, but its hard to find ammo. A few companies still make it, but you pretty much have to order it special on the net or through a dealer.

Put me down for the .303 Savage, too! I have less than a box of ammo for my Model 99, and I hang out at the gun shows looking for new supplies. You can find empties on eBay, but every one and his aunt is bidding on the stuff and it never is less than about two bucks an empty.

I would REALLY like to see more 30-40 krag around. I would say i want 351 WSL, as i had a BEAUTIFUL '07 with a williams peep sight, a couple 10 round mags and a 5 rounder, but 100 rounds cost me 100 dollars, and seeing as how im 19, and i can barely afford common calibers, i traded it for a mini 14. If any of you ever meet me in person, make sure to bring it up a whole bunch, so i dont do anything THAT stupid again.
