What other hobbies occupy your loading bench?

I have two hobbies, only two.

Guns (under which my reloading fits)
and Airplanes.

Under “Guns”, I have reloading, gunsmithing, machining, 3dprinting, woodworking (ick), and other stuff. If you can think of it under this heading, I probably dabble in it.

Under “Airplanes”, I have airplane flying and building, so whatever fits under those headings also competes with my reloading bench. 3d printing, machining, woodworking (ick), welding, sewing, etc. I’m less exhaustive under this heading because there’s more to it! But if you can think of it under this heading, I might dabble in it.

I have a handful of Piper ribs stacked up behind my turret press on my bench right now. I need a bigger shop.
I have a 1/4 scale Cub behind my bench and a Sig 4 Star kit waiting to be finished, hidden by a piece of drywall🙂

Ha! Every once in a while, my wife reminds me that when I built my loading bench (over 40 years ago) it was supposed to be her sewing bench. :D
I don't know why that still bothers my wife though. Because a few years later, I bought her a real, factory-made sewing bench. And she never uses it for anything other than setting some potted plants on anyway.

I worked for Piper in Vero Beach right before they closed down and sold it to one of their engineers, Bill Bryant. Good people. They made a quality product.

Bullet pictures for BulletMatch have been occupying my room lately. I have a white board on the bench, camera and lights in front of it. Not to mention, I use my reloading bench for a gun cleaning and gunsmithing station too. But, I do plan to rework my room and make more room, including more bench space.

I had to move my control line planes out of the junk room so I could use it as reloading room. Planes got moved to closet. I haven’t flown them in years but I need toView attachment 1201894

That bring back memories from 60 yrs ago. There use to be a park near where I lived that was setup for the high speed line planes, pole to keep you from wondering in circles. The lake I fish at now has a place where the radio control planes fly at. Some of those planes cost more than my cars, besides taking years to build. Did you fly them in combat where you cut the others person tail/ribbon?

That's one of the areas of hobby aviation I've never gotten attached to. Couldn't figure out how to keep the correct control inputs if I wasn't in the airplane! At one point, I considered developing that skill, but had already decided that (still small, but) full-size hobby aviation would take all my extra money and time. Which is why I've not been able to use that aforementioned turret press to work up some cheap subsonic .300 Blackout. Now, I want to add a .30-30 to the safe, and I'm really wondering if I want to do so if I don't have the time to do load development!

Another plane guy here.
I also have not flown in a very long time. The .gov sticking their nose in it really soured me on the entire thing.

Come after me with my P51, when some idiot with a drone does something stupid. Airplane flyers are not the issue, it is the idiots with the drones, it takes zero time, zero skill to put a drone somewhere where it should not be.

Ya know, my flight bag is stored by my bench… View attachment 1201915wow! Long time ago. Haven’t been up in almost 4 years.
I completed King ground school course and got a few hrs in a 172 and probably 10hrs in a 182 and had to put it on back burner when kids started popping out! So I got into models. Still fly the models, haven't been up in a 182 for a few yrs, but its still in the plans before I get too old hopefully. I could probably sell all my guns, model planes, boats, etc and have enough to buy a good 182, but just not willing to do that yet🙂

Yeah don’t sell the other toys to finance the big plane. You get to enjoy all the little things as much as you want. The big plane would be couple times a month or such. Av gas is outrageous, annuals, physicals, maintenance, hangar fees.. plus you’d have to get into motorcycles to keep them in the hangar with the rest of the toys you want.

Everything I do is in my 10 by 22 shop. Woodworking, reloading, household repairs, gun work, I used to build fishing rods.

Shotshell reloader (2) are stored on shelves with a cover on them. Use them on my woodworking bench. Metallic press is permanent on a small reloading bench in a corner. Has a granite surface plate under the balance. I used to need the surface plate for the shop when I was doing some work for a local company, Dies, accessories in a drawer. Powder in a overhead cabinet, Shot on shelves under the reloading bench. Hulls and wads in a storage unit elsewhere except the 1000 or so I am working with at the time. Loaded shells in a cabinet near the bench.

One time in 30 years I had a shot shell misfire because of a wood chip in the hull between the powder and the primer. I am more careful to keep all storage covered and closed now.

Right now planes are stupid expensive.....STUPID. Unless you go back to the 50's and start to look at fabric covered. There is a tri pacer here that is more expensive then I sold my Cherokee 6 for, everything newer then that is touching 6 figures. No....just no.

I would love to have a Tiger or Traveler, but for me that ship has sailed. I just refuse to do it.

I sold around 2000, and back then my hanger rent was $380 per month. I can only imagine what it is now. Insurance was also nothing, again now I understand it is insane.

I am glad I did it when I did.

Oops, forget to mention I also have a Goldwing, dirt bike, and a couple Atvs I'd also have to sell🙂
If it weren't for my grand kids, I could probably give up everything but a couple of my guns to buy a plane. But the grandkids love fishing, hunting, riding the dirt bike and Atv's, and flying the model planes, so they're not going anywhere for a while 🙂

My loading bench is pretty much for loading and gun cleaning. Now when the reloading room was in the barn, quite a few projects went on in there, as it was the only heated room out there. I made the mistake of putting a '68 Chrysler 440 together in it yrs ago......wasn't too bad getting the pieces in there, don't even wanna get into the fits I had getting it out. Let's just say I under estimated my moving capabilities at the time

My reloading bench is mainly reloading stuff. A shelf under the bench holds a dozen or more sharpening stones for knives, chisels and other sharp tools. Also my drafting instruments and slide rule from my school days. Next to the bench is my cartridge collection in a six drawer Craftsman rolling tool box containing thousands of historic rounds. Within 20 feet is the desk for the amateur radio station with transceivers covering 1.8 MHz to 2.5 GHz. Another desk with computer, TV, flight simulator and audio/video equipment. Also a saw filing bench for sharpening hand saws. My vinyl record collection which if stacked up would approach 5 feet tall. Last is my library of old books and catalogs from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s, including a 4 volume set on the life of Abraham Lincoln, a book of Thomas Jefferson's letters, the architects of Washington D.C. and many others. Really last is much stuff on the floor in transit to somewhere else.
