Has anyone had experiences using a .355 projectile instead of .356?

For some reason, my hornady dies are not liking me using (Berry's) .356 135gr projectiles. I have to flare the case way to much to accept a bullet, and using the seating die, the case practically sticks when exiting after (trying to) remove the bell. Multiple cases do not pass the barrel plunk test.

I ran a few 124gr extreme plated .355 through it, and they all worked and chambered fine.

Is there something that I'm not grasping with this .001 difference?

I use 130gr .356 Montana gold FMJ for 38 super. I know others that use a .355 gr bullet so it can be done.
I've never used plated for that round before as my loads are quite hot and I won't push plated that hard.
But, I think your problem is the Berry bullet. Another member has had fits with them lately. Keep experimenting and checking your results. Try some FMJ too. Generally 38 super is an easy cartridge to load. Straight wall case and generally just an dream to load compared to 9mm.

I'll try some other brand for .356 diameter. Good to know I'm not the only one having a fit with them.

I don't normally run the rounds hot. These should be around 1100fps.

For my bulk .38 Super loads, I've had good luck with Remington 130 gr. FMJs. They're available a lot of the time from Midway. Montana Golds are excellent as well.

I've occasionally shot 9mm/.355 projectiles with good luck. They've all worked fine. One time I put together some very hot loads with a little bitty 90 grain .355 bullet. They were way more accurate than I thought they'd be and fun to shoot. They were cooking along at roughly 1500 FPS.

Missouri Bullet Company IDP #8 135 grn lead.

I am loading them right now with 4756 to 1350 fps. I buy them in 20,000 lot chunks because they work so well. I try to get about a years supply at a time.

What I have right now is the Berrys 124 Gr HBRN-TP. They advertise it for 9MM and .38 Super. It is .356. I run it at 1300+ in .38 Super and it shoots well.

I have some X-Treme 124 Gr HP bullets and really like them in 9MM, but haven't tried them in .38 Super yet. I need to.

I get a dealer discount through Xtreme. I did notice their 147gr was .356-.357. I'll have to try a box. I normally run 124 with a the 9mm I shoot.

I'll try some different brands of bullets and see what works.

Anyone have any dies they prefer? I'm not impressed with my hornady set.

I've been trying to use the heaviest bullet available when shooting plated, in this case the .357 158gr Xtreme PFP. They seem to have added a .356 165gr PRN so I'll be ordering that on my next order. Also have used the .357 158gr Hornady XTP and HSM PHP, with similar performance(1100-1200fps), although the conical FP profile of the Xtreme bullet is preferible to the HSM. Xtreme offers a similar RNFP that probably has the same problem as the HSM and causes shorter OAL in my pistol due to the wider ogive. They seem accurate enough to me, the picture below was just some offhand shooting through a chronograph for getting velocity readings.
