Python can't be had for a grand anymore - at least not where I have seen them. Even Troopers are flirting with a grand (certainly staying in the $500-900 range easily). Lest folks bemoan a Colt going for that much, they do and folks are willing to pay that much evidently.
Taurus Silhouette in 44 mag. Add quality handgun glass and that should put me at about $1k.
I bought one several years ago and sold it to my dad:banghead: It's a great gun. I can hit 32oz bottles at 100 yards with it. I've never shot a deer with it but that is definitely on the bucket list. Provided good shot placement, I think it would be a hammer!
Oh well, at least it went to dad. I still shoot it every once in a while:
I'm with Sam1911 in that nothing priced that high is calling me. I'd definitely pick up a stainless SP-101 in .22LR, though. Then maybe a 3" something (S&W 36?) in .38 Special or something, if I had to spend the rest..
I would like another 610 but I don't see one going for less than $1,000. If I could find a model 57 or another model 58 I would grab it. A model 25-2 or 25-5 would also be nice additions. Then again a ruger gp100 with the balance of the $1,000 going for ammo wouldn't be anything I'd turn my back on.
I'd like to have back the S&W 657 3 inch Lew Horton I once owned. Most likely couldn't touch one for under a grand nowadays though. So I'll take a stainless Ruger Bisley 5.5 inch AcuSport in. 45 Colt. I'd be satsfied with that. Should be well under a grand for that one.
I just had such an opportunity and it was an easy one for me. I chose a 'pre-owned' S&W Performance Center 627 V-Comp in all silver finish (the older ones were not black) and pre-lock (although the lock doesn't worry me). It was somewhere around $1K. 8 rounds of 38 or magnum power, space age look, front muzzle brake, an action work over making the PC work look like childs-play. The smoothest operating handgun of any type or size I've ever owned. Thanks again to the seller btw. I realize that the looks may be just too weird for some people and I understand if you feel that way. But it's most excellent.

A minty S&W 19 for the collection or perhaps a full custom Ruger SP101 for carry. With that option there might be enough leftover to experiment with a variety of carry loads and holsters.
