What rifles do the Israeli Army and commando units use?

Spec Ops and elite forces in israel (which means everyone, compared to normal militaries :neener:) are being equipped with Tavors.
The primary and usually non-fixable problem with bullpups is they are utterly unusable by left-handed soldiers. Whereas with a normal rifle the cartridge would simply eject in front of their body, with a bullpup it would eject directly into their face. Now, granted, there WAS one French bullup design that could be made to eject on either side with the flip of a switch, but bullpups are normally bad for the decent percentage of lefties in the armed forces.

Thats BS. If you look at the Tavor, there are ejection ports on both sides. You can take apart the tavor to use the left or right port, although you can't flip switches in combat.

The French bullpup? The F2000 ejects forwards.... and is Belgian. The FAMAS (is really old) does not have a 'switch ejection side' button.

Normal rifles eject sideways, but the ejection port clears the user enough on both sides (usually) it doesn't matter.

Great for taking out the shins and knee-caps of slingers and rock throwers. Not to mention the odd armed terrorist trying to advance on an Israeli position by hiding among a group of women.

+1. It can be tailored to right or left hand shooters, but you're still stuck with not being able to transition to your weak side shoulder on the fly.

Not as huge a deal as the anti-bullpup crowd* makes it out to be in practice, I don't think, since the majority of military organizations and units go in for something very close to zero training for shooting off the other shoulder anyway.

(* I don't consider myself a big fan of bullpups, but will readily admit I don't have any trigger time on any of them, and so don't have any firsthand observations to compare to the theoretical pluses and minuses.)

Enjoyed reading all the remarks and being a novice, know nothing about the AR-15/M-16 etc.

One of the recent Military History magazines has an excellent article on how a small number of Israeli tanks counter-attacked a much larger number of Syrian tanks on the Golan Heights and helped to win the war.

Thanks-enjoyed each response.
Know nothing about ARs or M-16s etc other than reading/listening, being a very late-bloomer with all of this. Hope that the Military Channel repeats the show on (the 40 various) Israeli commando units.

Have a recent "Military History" magazine which has an excellent account of how vastly out-numbered Israeli tanks counter-attacked a much larger line of Syrian tanks and saved the day up on the Golan Heights.

Mini 14/30, SKS and MN 44 for floating 'insurgent grapefruits'.
