when i started in LE, they just handed us a 870 out of the rack when they handed us a set of keys off the board...if we were lucky, there was even a portable radio available

i soon learned that buying my own 870 was the way to go...at least i knew there would be a bead on the end of the barrel. i got a surplus 870 from another department and added a sling and folding stock...not recommended, but i needed it to clear the center mounted computer. we finally convinced the department to replace the wood funiture with plastic and to add slings

if i was to do it again, i'd add a surefire forend, a sling, a sidesaddle, a Vang Comp barrel and an English straight stock. i'm not concerned about wear on the gun as it's just part of the expense on a career in LE...i do take it off on my taxes...and the peace of mind it provides is priceless. but that's just me, i have always carried a personal duty gun too
