What states are you allowed to have a pistol openly carried on your hip etc. i know NJ has a really, almost impossible, CCW permit. But what states can you carry a pistol openly. Just curious. Thanks. :)

NH is open carry, but if you live in one of the larger cities expect to be accosted by ignorant LEO (who I dont blame, when a sheep dials up frantically saying there is a man with a gun!) , ala the whole MVPEL fiasco here in manchester some time ago..

Wisconsin has no CCW at all, open carry is legal without permit. Although i've heard you'll be arrested/ticketed in the larger cities for disturbing the peace.

Nebraska

Open carry anywhere. And a few municipal codes, in the face of the State Constitution.

And affirmative defense for concealed carry.

Nevada has open carry.

Utah, Cocked and Locked with CWP
Without CWP, open but unloaded.

Sounds like CA - open carry is legal as long as it's unloaded. So it gets you alot of attention without providing any benefits! :uhoh:

PA is usually regarded as Open Carry - but more by default, in as much as ... there is no law on the books that says ''open carry is illegal'' - therefore de facto - it is (presumed) legal.

As to where, when and how - to excercize this is another matter. :uhoh: :)

My area - semi rural, fairly gun oriented - probably no major probs but - the bliss ninnies are everywhere so - like as not in town (even my small town) - chances are someone will/may suffer hysterics!

Shall we say - ''discretion advized'' .... beyond which anyways - I choose to carry concealed, thus my CCW. Only 'open' is in and around my home most times.

valkman,

are you sure NV has open and loaded carry? i thought there was something about that in Clark County.....perhaps it is a county law. i don't think you can open carry on the Strip? just my bad recollection maybe.

thanks for the clarification...ill look up the law 2nite.

I agree with P95Carry that Pa. appears to be open carry due to no law banning it. I would bolster that logic with the Philadelphia provision that requires a carry permit for any carry of any firearm in the city. Since the legislature felt the need to specify a permit for open carry in Philly, they are implying that open carry is okay anywhere else. Actually I would expect less reaction from the sheeple to an open carry. If I am so bold, I must be legit, right?

Yes, open carry is legal in NV and in Clark Co., and on the Strip. It would not be smart on the Strip, but it would be legal if you didn't mind getting hassled every 5 minutes. :)

Then again, if you're not in North LV or Boulder City loaded weapons are legal in vehicles so if you normally open carry and go down to the Strip leave it in the car. Since it's easy to get a CCW though I don't know why anyone would open carry at all - I carry in casinos all the time and as long as it's concealed it's not a problem.

Oregon is generally legal, however cities and counties can make ordinances against those WITHOUT a CHL. I consider them a "licensed open carry state" for this reason.

Washington has a stupid law called RCW 9.41.270, and the Seattle area PD's have a hardon for threatening open carriers. Even in Eastern Washington this is a problem, see Fishorman's fiasco.

Florida, open carry is illegal unless you're carrying in a way that would be legal to CCW without a permit, like your own home or to and from a hunting trip. With the new self defense law just passed, there's probably going to be some effort to make Florida's Concealed Weapon or Concealed Firearm license law into a Concealed Weapon or Firearm License law, in that your CWFL exempts you from the open carry provisions, specifically to protect people from accidental exposure of their guns. That's the reason why TN passed a "Handgun Carry Permit" law.

walking around Phoenix @ Christmas time

A few years ago I "opened carried" it was great!
I got one dirty look, which some one here said it was because I had a glock not a proper 1911

Hey! what ever happened to MVPEL and that whole shebang?

Yeah, what Lonnie said about Washington.

Open carry is legal but questionable, (with a vague law to back up that questioning with possible jail time). Now that's INTIMIDATION! (In reference to vague law used against open carry, "...manifest intent to intimidate, or that warrants alarm for the safety...")

Well, at least we have a governor that didn't steal the... errr... nevermind.

One more thing, hello again members/readers of THR. Been awhile.
