I have a recently purchased a Taurus G2C. Its matte or flat black. I'm trying to determine whats best to use on the exterior of the slide to keep it in good shape. Because its not glossy or slick I dont think wax is a viable option. What do you recommend?

Ha

I got one to throw in a GHB - mainly because I didn't care if it got rusty.

I use Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Paste Wax for the exterior of my gun's slide. Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Paste Wax is fairly oily, it also is PH neutral and has no abrasives in it.

And you can see the wax on it... I'm too lazy to get every little bit of wax rubbed off of it.

How do you like the G2C Mad Max? I already have two of the PT111 G2's so I really can't see buying one unless it's radically different.

The Renaissance Wax has been protecting my guns very well, but it's pricey, so for a more matte finish I would think the Meguiars that counterzero mentioned should work. Wax seems to be a real good protectant. I don't think it will shine unless it gets vigorously buffed, but I could be wrong

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I need to experiment a bit.

Jim, I dont have any experience with the PT111 G2 so I can't really tell you how they might differ. I have read that basically they are identical except that the G2C has no Taurus Safety System and the trigger safety may be a bit beefier now. Not really sure. I like the grip and the way it handles recoil.

I keep Johnson's Paste Wax on my PT111 G2. I haven't had any issue with rust. The finish is wearing from carrying it in a plastic holster. I don't care.

Mine is the regular G2. I paid a little bit extra and got the stainless steel version: problem solved.

I'm not trying to be snarky. But if there's anyone reading and thinking about getting a PT111, the extra $20-$30 or whatever it is for the stainless version is money well spent. My BiL has carried his everywhere for a couple of years, and his only complaint is the finish wear. That's why I opted for stainless. I won it for a $217 bid on GunBroker a couple of months ago.

As far as range reports go, I haven't shot it much, maybe a hundred rounds. The trigger is mushy but light. The sights are nice. I haven't managed to make it malfunction yet. My hands are extra-large, but I can get a good grip on it. I don't like the general feel and trigger as well as my G43, but I seem to be just as accurate with it, and it holds more boolits.

In warmer weather I prefer an LCR in cargo shorts, but by next winter I will have put a bunch more rounds through the G2 and will probably work it into my CC rotation worn OWB under a light jacket or loose outer shirt.

So far it seems like a nice gun for the money, and paying a little extra for stainless seems like the way to go.

I agree that's good advice.

When I purchased my Taurus Millennium G2, it was hard to find a stainless version for sale anywhere, and I didn't care so much if it did get rusty, but 30 more bucks for a stainless slide would have been worth it.

Yep, the stainless is probably worth it. As I posted though I don't really care about the finish wear. It is an inexpensive carry piece that works. That is about all I expect it to be. In all honesty my only dislike about it is how far back the trigger breaks. If they would give it a better trigger it would be a nice gun.
