What to do if someone is kicking down your door ?

1) Dial 911, and speak very loudly so they can hear me.

2) Inform them I've dialed 911 and that I am armed.

3) IF they manage to kick the door open, say hello to Mr. Remington XII.

Perhaps he was having the weapon detail stripped. Might be good having an expert handle that if you don't know your way around all the springs and widgets.

I'd say that generally if a gun owner knows what detail stripping is, they are probably enough of a gun enthusiast to already have more than just 1.

Having a gun store clean your weapons sounds a lot like the "I keep a revolver in my desk that I maybe shoot once a year" type gun owner.

First i would know the laws for use of lethal force in your state. That is VERY important and can differ per state.

Second remember the gun safety rules. The one I would bring up here, know your target and what is beyond it. Not sure blindly shooting through a door would fall in line with that.

I am going to give your bud the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a detail clean (beyond what you would do at home).

While they are trying to kick in the door warn them that you are armed and will shoot.
If they do kick in the door and enter...SHOOT!!! You already warned them when they were kicking in the door...

Pretty much this, but I may or may not issue a verbal warning. Just depends on the circumstances. If I thought it was some drunken idiot just being beligerant, then yeah, I'd warn them. OTOH, if I reasonably believe it's someone who intends to do me harm, I'll simply wait 'til the door comes down and unload at whatever comes through.

As far as the possibility of it being LE, doesn't even enter into the equation if they proceed with kicking the door down after warning. I do absolutely nothing illegal, save speeding in my cars/on the bike, so there would be no legitimate reason for a no-knock raid. If they announced themselves as LE, they'd be told that I'm armed and need to hold while I confirm that they have an official/sanctioned (albeit erroneous) reason for trying to force entry. Just shouting "police!" will not cause me to surrender; anyone can do that. People have been robbed/raped/murdered after allowing a gremlin into their home, believing the criminal was an LEO.

Bottom line is, if one forces entry into my home, that person can fully expect to be perforated.

[QUOTE i saw on a repo tv show on the discovery channel that in texas you can shoot someone you see stealing your car ,is there truth to that ? and if so i guess i can also shoot if someone breaks into my home,i would hate to have to wait until someone attacks me with deadly force in my own home to defend myself][/QUOTE]
In TX you can legally shoot through the door. Only a fool or someone with a death wish tries to kick in a home owner's door in Texas.

You can also shoot someone stealing your car. There are actual cases I could quote in both cases.

In Texas, within some limits, you can use deadly force to protect or recover property. A car is definitely property.

§ 9.42. DEADLY FORCE TO PROTECT PROPERTY. A person is
justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or
tangible, movable property:
(1) if he would be justified in using force against the
other under Section 9.41; and
(2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the
deadly force is immediately necessary:
(A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of
arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the
nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or
(B) to prevent the other who is fleeing
immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated
robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the
property; and
(3) he reasonably believes that:
(A) the land or property cannot be protected or
recovered by any other means; or
(B) the use of force other than deadly force to
protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or
another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.

What would I do if someone was trying to kick in my door?
It depends on the situation.

What I wouldn't do is wait to fire until they gain entry to the house.

Folks,

In S&T, we let old threads (by definition more than a calendar year old) rest in peace.

There is of course a protocol for referring back to old threads- start a NEW thread on the topic, and post a link back to the old thread, if you feel it necessary and if the previous discussion contributes to your topic.

If the previous discussion is NOT contributory, leave the dead thread in peace, lest someone be tempted to post to it in response to members who are no longer active at THR, etc.

Now- anyone care to start a new thread on this topic??
