It's a 1/2" hex nut. The recommended torque is 65 in/lbs - 100 in/lbs. Some might need to be lapped. You can tell by gently setting your scope in the rings after they have been mounted. You should be able to move it around freely in the rings. It shouldn't bind or stick. Check the inside of the rings for any dents or raised places. Those should be smooth out if there are any. They are very good rings for the money.
