What was your First Firearm?

First Firearm...

I have pics of me on my 5th birthday ( 1959 ) wearing a double cowboy rig and two silver six shooter "cap" guns...boy, if they only knew what they had started !

Then I got a air rifle that you had to pump up with a lever to build the pressure...use to plug the muzzle with soft dirt so that it would actually fire a projectile.

My first "real" gun that I purchased was a S&W Model 19 chambered in .357 magnum. Six inch barrel...beautifully blued and all set up for target...which I still have.

Marlin levar action in 35...belonged to my great grandfather and my dad. Got stolen before I moved out of my parents when our house got robbed. First gun I purchased for myself was a Taurus 5 shot 38 revolver for home defense after I moved out of my parents house.

S&W 5906. Still have it, won't get rid of it because it was the first. As time goes by and I use it more often, I can appreciate the engineering more....it keeps getting more accurate. :D

It SUCKS as a carry gun - too damned wide. I'm glad that I've got my Springfield .45 - it is both narrower and packs a bigger punch.

JC Higgins

JC Higgins .22. When Dad let me shoot long rifle .22s (instead of short .22s) I thought I had arrived! My next was a Marlin .22 tube fed...

Interestingly, my first real gun was an Uzi. It was stolen back in 1985. This weekend I bought back a piece of my youth...a Vector Arms Uzi. What great fun it is to shoot! I felt like I was 18 again.

Ruger single six - .22lr and .22 mag, blued with 6 1/2 barrel. That reminds me that I need to get it out to the range soon.

Mossberg 835 as a graduation gift although I suspect my dad really bought it for me so he could have a hunting partner for spring gobblers.

My first gun was a Remington model 552 semi-auto .22 when I was about 12 years old. I was given this as a gift from a neighbor that had won it in a raffle and already had quite a few guns. I have to appreciate my dad for allowing me to keep it since he doesn't like guns and could have easily said no to it.

1st firearm that was mine was a Ruger 10/22 which I later sold to my older brother. For my 18th birthday I got a Rem 11-87. On my 21st birthday I bought a Glock 24P.

I think I was 12 or 13 when I got one to call my own. Dad bought me a Marlin 995 for Christmas. Still have it, still shoot it on occasion.

Funny thing is until last year it had never had a sling mounted, even though it's been hunting more than a few times.

Remington Field Master Pump 22 long rifle. Age 16 Christmas gift from my parents. I still have it. Enjoy shooting it from time to time. It has been returned twice to the factory for rebuilts as it gets shot a lot.

When I was an eighteen year old soldier in Germany in 1956 I bought a Winchester model 77 rifle in .22 LR caliber. I started buying semi-auto pistols shortly after that.

The Wichester rifle had a bad sear and would usually empty the magazine when pulling and releasing the trigger. It made rage practice more fun. One day when returning from the range a couple of MPs in a jeep stopped us and asked if we heard anyone firing a subgun anywhere. Of course we had not and were not about to tell the secret of the .22 rifle either.

First gun

The first gun that I bought is a 12 gauge Maverick Model 88 by mossberg. I bought it from walmart. That was two years ago. I originally bought it for home defense. Since then I have bought a shorter shotgun for home defense, the maverick I have is to long IMHO.

Marlin Model 60. It was 1982, I was twelve. I had been eyeing it at the local KMart for a long time. Dad said I could get one if I could pay for it. Mowed lawns all over the neighborhood for a week, and it was mine. I still have it, and shoot it when I can. Of all the guns I own or have owned, it's my favorite hands down. Nothing like a first gun.

My first was a Ruger P-95 bought after an attempted break in at my house. The locks held and the individual or individuals weren't too dedicated. Since then I am up to 9 guns. Had 4 others that were sold for various reasons.

My first Rifle was a bolt action single shot 22 lr (forgot the make) and the first hand gun was a German made Arminius 38 special snub nose which lasted exactly 1 visit to the range before the frame warped so badly that the cylinder wouldn't close anymore. Obviously not all German products are like H&K, SIG or Mercedes.

First gun (given): Granddad's old Winchester .22 pump. Forget the model (1895? you know, octagon barrel, curved buttplate). This was Granddad's old "grocery-getter" from the Great Depression. Was pretty well shot out when I got it, but still great fun.

First gun (purchased) Ruger Security-Six. Tried to teach my wife to shoot with it; made the mistake of putting a magnum load in it. She hasn't touched a gun since. :what:

First Rifle: Marlin .22LR bolt action (still own it)

First Handgun: Colt New Frontier-22LR (traded it)

A beautiful Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge. My wife's uncle bought it less than a year before he died in the fall of 1986. He left it to my father-in-law who gave it to me a few months after I married his youngest daughter, saying, "You hold on to this. If I need it I know where it is." It looked brand new and I think it had only been used on one hunt.

Eighteen years later, he still has not asked for it back. And last year he gave my son another long gun his brother left to him: a Stevens over/under .22/.410.
