What was your First Firearm?

Mine was a H & R Toper Model 158 20 gauge given to me at Christmas time when I was 12. I later swapped it to my dad when I was in need of a set of tires for my car at a time that funds was very low. When he passed away it came back to me. Taught my son to shot with it and now my nephew is learning with it.

in my mind i have to break this up into 3 firsts.

first gun i was "told" was mine (explain in a sec), Remington 870 wingmaster 12ga, was about 11 or 12 at the time, 11 years later i moved to texas and in the time between my getting down here and getting a safe to put my small collection of guns in, my father used this gun for trade goods on a bass boat :fire: yes i WILL be good naturedly bugging him about this for years to come, or at shortest till me "makes good" :D (what was he thinking trading away his only son's first shotgun?!!?)

first gun that was bought for me and that I had a hand in choosing, Marlin 39M carbine .22 lever action.

and the first gun i bought for myself savage 110FP in .223 the gun that truly got me hooked on accurate rifles and reloading for them.

sadly the both the marlin and the savage fell prey to incidents of "i need money NOW or we won't eat and this is the only one i MIGHT be able to replace someday" :( and yes i am always on the look out for their replacements (a replacement savage in .308 is next on the "gonna get" list)

My father chopped down the stock of a .22 rim-fire sigle shot action rifle back in '38 to fit me at 8 yrs of age.

He was resting his High Std semi-auto .22 h/gun on something solid & his hands to help hold it, so I could shot it as well.

True at 12 yrs of age in '42 I was shooting sleeved down 303 British Lee Enfields to .22, though that was Army Cadet training to WWII.

After WWII I had a Winchester pump action .22 & was often out with my Father & a few of his friends & their kids to shoot .22 from rifle & in some cases their h/guns.

It was not till '51 that I could own my own h/gun & that was my Father's .22 High Standard, to a Browning P-35 a few yrs later on & then a S&W M-15 in 38Spl. Many changes since then.

Given to me when I turned 13.

I got a model 94, 30-30 when I was less than one day old. My father did this for all of us boys. I still have it today (52 years later). I think I first shot it when I was 10 or 11 years old.

Stevens .22 single shot - I was 9. When I was 14-15 traded it for a shot out .22 auto. Still 40+ years later wonder what the hell I could have possibly been thinking.

Savage mod 24...

...and I think it was the perfect first gun for me It was (and still is) .22/410 with a very good trigger. I think I carried it half a million miles hunting rabbit and those little tree rodents. I still use it for rabbit.
The first gun bought with my own money was a Colt Diamondback .38. I do like revolvers.
Both of those guns have a home in my closet untill I leave this world. Then my sons can flip a coin to determine their new home.
I like old guns that are passed down. I have my Grandfathers Rem. .22 single shot, my Father in laws Win. mod 24 sxs and my former employers K98 Mauser. Handed down guns keep us connected to passed family and friends. Just the kind of connection I like.
Mark.

Winchester 190 .22RF semi auto was the first. Second was a Ruger 77 in .30-06 and third was a Remington 581 .22 RF Bolt action rifle.

After that I just don't remember.

A pretty little left handed Belgian Browning t-bolt .22 rifle, which is still in the family today.

What a sweet little rifle....My Dad always did have good taste :)

My first was a Swedish M94 Carbine in 6.5x55mm, purchased at a Montgomery Wards store in Glens Falls, NY, in 1964.

And, for a relatively young kid, with it's steel buttplate and the original 156/160 round nose surplus ammo, it kicked like a mule and set fires to the grass and brush in front of the rifle from the fire ball at the muzzle.

Cool...

:)

My very first, came in 1973, at age 9. A savage 24 22lr/410. I can't think of a finer first gun for a young hunter. Even after 31 year's, of collecting various firearms, It's still the only .22 rifle I own.

My very first purchase, was a 1903A3 sporterized, when I was 14.

Still have both of the above

I have to split my first guns into two categories, the first I inherited and the first I ever bought. My first guns I received were my fathers, a single shot H&R 20ga and a savage bolt action .22. The first gun I ever purchased was an Xd-9. The inherited ones kept me interested in recreational shooting, the xd09 was the first step down this wonderful road of addiction and being a gun nut

Same as Missilecop I bought a Sig 225. Good story behind it. Many years ago I worked for a couple, she was a nurse and he was a cop. They loved Christmas. I was a grumpy guy who didnt like Christmas and so was my buddy Tim who was on the same job. She asked my friend Tim and I a question, if we could have one thing for Christmas what would it be. Tim said he'd love to pay off the bill from having his first kid I said I'd love to get a gun. I had been talking with the husband about guns and stuff, he answered all my silly questions. Anyway after the job was done and a little before Christmas an envelope arrives in the mail with $500 cash and a note "Merry Christmas, hope you find a gun you like" I called Tim and guess what, yup he recieved enough to pay off that hospital bill. Gave me a whole new perspective on Christmas

First gun I had input on: Sears (barrel is stamped "Whippet"?) side by side 20 gauge shotgun, I was 10. Dad bought it for me for my first dove/pheasant season. He still has it, but I'm trying to wear him down, cause that little shotgun shoots better than anything I've seen since.

First gun I bought for myself: Norinco SKS, $80 NIB at the pawn shop, can't hit the broadside of a barn with it, but I'm still trying!

My First Gun

The first one was a Sears Model 200 12ga shotgun which I still have.
That was over 30 years ago. Since then I have bought two more shotguns, about 10 handguns of various calibers, two 22 rifles, and today I bought a Browning 223 WSSM A-Bolt rifle.
Which one can I absolutely not sell no matter what?? Why the Sears Model 200 my Dad gave me of course. My first gun.

My first gun was a single shot 20 gauge shotgun. I think I was about 10 because I first had to shoot it with my dad taking some of the recoil for me but was it a treat watching paint cans get destroyed. Then I think I had a marlin .22 my uncle gave me and then it just sorta steamrolled.
