What would be a good sniper type rifle?

Yeah, I know what he meant. The point is that the antis are going to use it against us if we keep calling scoped rifles "sniper" rifles, and black guns "tactical". Pretend for a second that Hillary Clinton just reffered to your scoped rifle as a "sniper rifle" or your glock as a "tactical pistol". Do you feel comfortable with Hillary Clinton calling them that? Because if you keep calling them that, so will she.

A sniper rifle is ANY rifle that happens to be in the hands of a "real" sniper...or did you miss the part of that movie where he shot those guys in the shed with that 22lr...all head shots from 100 yards (maybe it was 200...don't remember now)...from a boat no less. Hollywood??? Certainly...but the point is valid.

Now to answer your question...

The cheapest rifle that I know for sure to work (because I have one) is the Remington SPS Tactical...I got mine for $580 off Gunbroker + $600 for a decent scope + $200 for bases (20 MOA) and rings + $225 for a better stock.

Best 100 yard 5 shot group so far is .231 MOA
Best 900 yard group so far is .780 MOA (7.02 inches across widest point)...not bad for a sub $600 rifle.
Sounds more like a $1605 rifle to me.

I don't know about Hillary herself, but the term has already been applied by some of the antis. They really went with the gunzine blurb "pocket rocket" for a while there, too.

Look, expvideo, I could care less what Hillary Clinton calls anything. I call her and her husband quite a few names, and I seriously doubt she will use any of those terms I use. This PC thing just plays into their hands, and is not a game I am going to play. So, call your gun a "Bubba Ball Buster" or whatever you want. As long as I understand what is being discussed, it's fine with me.

It doesn't matter if you care what Hillary Clinton calls your guns. What matters is that more than 50% of congress AND the president DO care what she calls them.

You guys are getting soft.

We enjoyed the term "assault rifle" just long enough for the antis to use it against us. As soon as we start accepting the term "sniper rifle" to describe scoped bolt guns, the antis will be after those as well.
I love every assault rifle/sniper rifle I own, and proud to call them that.

Why?

If you want a target rifle to hone your shooting skills to the ultimate level punching sub MOA holes out at 1000 yards then ask about a long range target rifle. (National Match AR works)

If you want a hunting rifle that will allow you to make 1000 yard shots that will drop an elk across the valley then ask about a long range big game rifle. (.300 win mag out of one of the new Ruger bolt guns work)

if you want to shoot varmints a quarter mile away then ask about a varmint rifle. (Back to the NM AR)

Sniper rifles are for shooting people and last time I looked shooting people at long range ain't exactly self defense.

Because this is America, and if I want to own a gun made for putting people down at 1000yards that is my right. It's what I do with it is what matters not what I call it. Last time I checked a "long range target rifle", "long range big game rifle", or "varmint rifle" is going to have the same end result on a human with a well placed shot.

Maxx I see that I am not the only one who wishes to not have us hung with another evil gun in todays PC world.
Don't take offense when I say that my visual of you is kinda Mall Ninjay and you want a cool looking gun that looks like something Tom Beringer would have with lots of turrets and a black stock with a bipod that shoots like it has magic powers.

If you have to post "Don't take offense" that means you know he is going too. Learn to get your message across with out being offensive if you have the brain power to figure out how, don't expect people to make an exception for you.

My god people have you really convensed yourselves that putting fuzzy cute names on our rifles. That this will cause the antis to change their minds about them, or go after them any less? WAKE UP! They are anti gun because guns look scary, make scary sounds, and can do scary things. Which is why I love'em all. Stop being so PC.

It's not the antis I'm worried about. It's the fence sitters that the antis lie to that think "oh no, that high powered assault rifle with armor piercing bullets does sound scary, when you put it that way."

Fence sitters make up most of the voting population. Antis lie about guns. Us giving them scary names just helps the antis in their cause which is convincing fence sitters that guns are bad. The antis' minds aren't going to change. The fence sitters will. That is why we have to watch our words. Because the antis sure as hell are watching them.
