Ok, so I've got the rules pretty straight for carrying a concealed handgun; what are the rules for carrying long guns (loaded or unloaded). What are the rules in the state of Texas regarding some of the following situations?

1. A condition 2 rifle in the car (passenger cabin).

2. A condition 2 rifle in the trunk of the car.

School away!

Both modes of transport are OK in Texas. Just make sure the long gun is in plain view if it is inside the passenger compartment.

BOTH are fine - regardless of how they are carried.

There are NO Limitations or Prohibitations on either in Texas.

so...

Any kind of rifle or shotgun, any kind of condition, in the passenger compartment, unconcealed is ok then?

Thanks for all the responses BTW.

State law has no restrictions on long guns, loaded chamber or no, in your car. There may be city ordinances in some places against it - but I believe state law trumpeth local law in these matters.
Stick it under the seat, on a gun rack, or wherever you want. Concealed or in plain sight - concealed might be a better idea to reduce chances of somebody breaking in and stealing it.

My bad, there is a plain view requirement for handguns under the travelling law (not long guns).
(i) For purposes of Subsection (b)(3), a person is presumed to be traveling if the person is:
(1) in a private motor vehicle;
(2) not otherwise engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic;
(3) not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm;
(4) not a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01; and
(5) not carrying a handgun in plain view.

How do you mean condition 2 rifle? Condition 2 is round chambered, decocked? When is that possible with a rifle? Do you mean condition 3? loaded mag inserted nothing in the chamber? or condition 1, loaded wiith saftey on?

Condition 2 is round chambered, decocked? When is that possible with a rifle?

With a lever action or break open rifle with an exposed hammer (or I would even guess a Cricket .22 with the striker decocked, maybe?) I don't know how safe this would be- I don't keep my .30-30 in that condition, though.

Carry it in any condition you wish; loaded or unloaded, concealed or not concealed.

Long guns are not regulated this way on the state level.

You may or may not have local ordinances to deal with if it's visible i.e in a gun rack etc.
