hiding in your bushes
well yesterday, i'm sitting around eating eggs in my living room, and there's this big ruckus outside.

turns out some adults with baseball bats were trying to beat up some highschool seniors. apparently the seniors beat up a 12 year old kid earlier, and this was retribution. they were swinging the bats at them pretty violently trying to hurt them. i live in a nice area, so it was surprising to see such entertainment.

the police were called by an onlooker, and the adults were arrested.

i, however, did absolutely nothing but watch & continue to eat my eggs, as i don't like getting involved in other people's soap operas.

the kids looked like serious punks, and probably deserved of what they were receiving. which, i later found to be true from a neighbor that told me they beat a 12 year old kid pretty badly. this same neighbor was an old man that called the cops, and actually told the guys to leave the kids alone. he wasn't attacked, but was told what it was about by one of the adults with a bat.

what would you guys have done? would you have gone out there with a hogleg under your shirt for protection, and tried to settle it down, and help the kids? or would you have finished your scrambled eggs peacefully?

just curious

called the cops. everyone was already tripped off-line. Rational was long gone before you could have talked it down. And wrong to bring a gun outside. You life was not threatened not to mention you would be the first to make overt action. You would have been found guilty if you had to shoot.

Just my opinion man.

I like eggs too, And im no cop so i mind my own business unless i know exactly whats going.

Of course most others would rush out and try and save/protect the teens if they didn't know what was going on. But if they did know what was going on they would bring their own bat. Unless im a cop, And im not i don't get involved unless i know the full story or i see someone about to die.

Call 911. Finish eggs.

Unless someone you know and care about is on the receiving end of the baseball bat, you have no business inserting yourself into a situation like that, especially if you're armed.

It's best to keep out of it.You weren't involved ,so why chance wearing a bat.
Hurry and call your friends and make bets LOL.

Seriously talking why chance getting hurt or end up in jail. It would be different if they were your friends or family members. Strangers let them do their thing. They probably wouldn't hesitate busting your head open, If you went out with your gun and ended up using it then you opened another can of worms. To me it's not worth it.

Eggs are good.

We are talking about high school kids, not 2nd graders. "most others" would sit there and talk trash. Very few people would take any action other than running their mouths.

Unless the kids were about to be killed, I'd finish my eggs before they were cold.

Grab the shotgun and Glock.
Ask the wife to call the cops.
Depending on circumstance - tell them we called the cops.
Monitor the proceedings.
Wait for cops.

I had a gentleman attacked in my front yard a couple months back, and I did the above.
I much liked having a firearm in my hands while waiting should someone have decided that my house looks like a safe place to be...

The part that the OP left out was that the High School seniors beat up the 12 year old for beating up a 7 year old.:p

Like most of the others, I'd be inclined to sit back, be a good witness and give the local po-po a call. I'd probably let the combatants know that the fuzz was on the way, but other than that, they're on their own.*

*Unless one or more individuals end up unconscious and are still being assaulted. At that point, I'd have to do something - no way I'm watching a totally defenseless human be beaten to death in front of my eyes.

Since it would seem I couldn't tell the good guys from the bad guys I'd just continue eating my eggs.
I certainly wouldn't want to interfere if someone is getting a well deserved butt kicking.:)

So what if someone ended up getting killed? Make that one of the kids?

I'm more than a bit appalled at the responses to not do *anything*, since it's very easy to call 911 and stay inside...

i take it you disagree with my course of action (or lack there of). :)

what would you have done? simply called 911, or actually gone out there?

call the police

advise the "adults" that the cops are on the way and that they should hold the thugs for the police

It's not my business, and I'm not one to call the police. Call me crazy (I'm sure someone will) but the value of a good fight is lost on kids these days. Non-lethal violence (AKA a fist fight) actually can solve some problems. It's certainly taught me a lesson a time or two. And usually the worst that happens is a few bruises and a broken nose.

Now that being said, a baseball bat isn't the same thing. You can do some serious damage that way and, whether the kids deserved a beating or not, I personally believe that the bats are over the top. But I'd still ignore it.

I don't think I should be ashamed at all. If I had no idea what was going on, I'm not going to get involved. Maybe they really did deserve it, maybe not. But without knowing, I'm not going to say a word or even look twice. Keep the gun ready in case someone decides my house is a "safe" place to hide, and simply ignore it.

Call the cops and enjoy your eggs.

Unless they set foot on your property or are beating an unconscious person... Then I would intervene.

I would've called 911 and holler at 'em that the cops are on the way.
Finnish eggs
go get gun incase bats get applied to someone while on ground, but stay on my porch with gun inside the front door ( no point for me to be the reason for things to escalate). Most kids today are not as tough as they think they are and could use a good whoopin, but a bat.... is tough even by the old school standards my grandfather had back in texas.

how bad were the seniors injured??
