What's everybody's favorite .40 caliber pistol?

While I prefer .45acp I have a HK USP Compact in .40S&W purchased NIB in late 1996. It is a keeper! :)

Bwahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

No seriously.
Better ergonomics than my G23.
Holds more boooooolets!!!
Because of the superior ergonomics, the recoil is better distributed in my hand and wrist, which means, boys and girls, I shoot it better!!!

Now go to your room, Gaston, and leave daddy alone. :neener: :p

Owning only one, I have none to compare to, FWIW. Mine is a S&W CS40 Auto with Alloy frame and stainless slide. I bought it off AuctionArms, got a good deal and it shoots everything I've put through it so far. Remington Green box FMJ and JHP(sierra's i think, both 180 grains) and Meister RN 155gn SWC. All fed flawlessly. I'm not real keen on the magazine disconnect, but it's not my primary carry.

It does ride pretty well with my UBG Striker holster though and recoil is plenty managable for it's small size. I do wish they made aftermarket grips for it though.

I don't own a .40 but I've shot plenty. I would pick a HK P2000 or a Sig 229 in .40 caliber if I were to own one. I prefer a .45 or 9mm

Sure, 10 mm=.40in. But in the same manner, 9 mm=.357 in. We all know how to do math, but we also know that even though their diameters are the same, they are still different calibers. The poster asked for .40 cal, not .40in diameter. While your suggestion of 10mm may be useful to him, please don't try to argue that .40 S&W and 10mm are the same.

My pick would be the CZ75 SA. If you have not shot one, try it...you'll be amazed! I own a G23 and shot my friend's Sigs. I still gravitate to the CZ!

actually 10mm and the 40 S&W are both 40 caliber so is the 38-40 revolver round.but this is the auto forum and I don't know of any 38-40 autos.BTW 9mm = .355 not .357.
this is one of the defanitions of caliber from the THR library
Calibre (or caliber) :2. Firearms: The approximate diameter of the circle formed by the tops of the lands of a rifled barrel.
so 10mm is indeed 40cal

I'm partial to my 3rd generation Glock 22 fo'-tay, because I'm professional enough to handle it:D. I'm really a 1911A1/.45ACP kinda guy, but I have to admit that I shoot the drastic, fantastic plastic pretty darn well.

I would have to go with my Springfield XD-40, very nice ergonomics, fits my hand like a glove, excellent accuracy, 100% reliability after 2000+ rounds, I really like this gun, best pistol purchase I have made.

If I had to take into account the need for CCW, then the nod would go to my Taurus Mil-Pro 40, its a sweet shooting little gun, every bit as reliable as my XD, much better size for CCW.

I can do math, too:
i=sqrt(-1)
π=3.14159265358979323846.......
1mile=5280ft
and the surface area of a sphere is 4π*r^2

You've obviously missed my point. I AGREE that .40in is 10mm. You don't need to give any references to back it up. The point that I'm trying to get across is that (as you undoubtedly know) the 10mm Auto and the .40 S&W are different cartridges. They have different case lengths and loading pressures, and therefore are not the same.

The poster asked about .40cal, and I would assume that means the .40 S&W, not the 10mm. That's the point I wanted to make. I did not mean to start an argument. I'm done here.

You didn't spe. which .40

ok, I can't sleep either...

Pick your brand but a 1911 in .45 ACP
that is accurate is a good platform,
I have the Jarvis .400 CorBon Bbl. to go
with my 1911. Guess I oughta order up
the brass from Starline and some 155 gr.
Leadhead hardcast SWC at 1,350 fps for
a good practice/range/target load
to go with the 155 gr. Gold dot at the same
velocity.

Starline .400 COrBOn Brass $ 92/500
Leadhead 155 gr. SWC $ 33 / 500
that's $ 0.25 per round prior to the cost
of primers, powder and loading it .

The Gold Dot load mentioned is avail.
at Reed's Ammunition & Research
for $ 28.92 per 50 or $ 0.57.8 for
the carry stuff.

I had R.A.R. load Leadhead 200 gr. SWC
for the .45 ACP @ 1,025 FPS at
42 cents a round.

The Hornady XTP 200 gr. order for the
bullets is on back order.

COntemplating the Jarvis Drop-In
Bull Barrel

.45 ACP / .40 S&W / 10MM / .400 CorBon

Comparing the prices of ammo at the previously
mentioned R.A.R.

My Custom Load of
..45 ACP Hornady 200 gr. XTP @ 1,000 FPS approx. 52 cents ea.
Available from R.A.R.
.40 S & W Hornady 155 gr. XTP @ 1,120 FPS aprx.51 cents ea.
10 MM Hornady 155 gr. XTP @ 1,400 FPS approx. 55 cents ea.
.400 CorBon Hornady 155 gr. @ 1,350 FPS aprx 60 cents

However with a custom order - minimum of 250
you might get a break if you're a repeat
customer...

Can't fire the .49 S&W or 10 MM in my 625
so I think the .400 COrBon Combo in my 1911
makes more sense than buying another gun
in a different CARTRIDGE not Caliber.
