What's right with a Taurus?

Thats about the only use I would have for a Taurus, no matter how reliable it proved to be.
My personal experience with poor quality and horrible C.S from Taurus keeps me from ever really trusting one,( for carry or home defense ) not with much better options ( S&W or Ruger, or Glock and many others) for just a little more money.
My money is never gonna go through the Taurus "crapshoot" again.
So much for someone's statement that if this tread was created, none of the Taurus bashers would show up... :)

I just bought a used 8 inch raging bull in 44 mag. I love it, it absorbs recoil so well that I rather shoot it then my compact 40.

30,000 rounds and counting through my PT92 since 1989 or 1990. The DA return spring broke at 15,000 rounds - two weeks later, it came back repaired. Same spring failed last year, I replaced it myself, rather than be without my favorite. Show me any other handgun that can withstand that sort of heavy use, while remaining extremely accurate, and I bet it will cost quite a bit more than the $299 I paid, NIB.

The best thing about a Taurus is the lifetime warranty. I've purchased several pistols with "issues" at a very attractive price, sent them in for service and got back a perfectly working firearm. Not a bad deal at all.

I have a PT-945, 85UL, and a Rossi 462 (by Taurus). All three are 100% reliable. The 945 and the Rossi are my top two "go to" guns when I am travelling into more high risk areas. I've heard about a lot of negative Taurus experiences, but no one I personally know has had one!

I've said it on every Taurus thread I've contributed to; so I'll say it here; again!! I have never owned a new Taurus and have never owned a Taurus semi-auto pistol; but the revolvers I've bought used have been accurate, attractive and flawless in function. I have never sold a Taurus revolver, kept them all, traded away a few S&W that were less than stellar, tho. My best Taurus is a 441 SS, 44 Special, second best is a 327B2, both used and both keepers.

I will keep it HighRoad and just say, everyone is intitled to their own personal opinions. For me I just cant re-live the horrors Taurus and their CS dept has put me through, lesson learned.

Taurus PT740 Slim. Awesome trigger and 100% reliable thru 500+ rds so far. Every bit as accurate as my much larger Glock 22 with some trigger work and 3.5 lb connector.

Now I doubt I'll pump 20K rds thru it and beat on it like a Glock but for its intended purpose I think it is hard to beat.

I own over 20 Taurus revolvers in a plethora sizes of calibers from ..22lrf,22WRM,through to .44 Special.

Most are at or over 20 years old and all give sterling service and continue to.
Also in the mix are 7 Taurus pistols of various sizes and calibers.

From .22lrf to 9x19.

I also own Beretta, Springfield,SIG,and Ruger products that work well as I am a discrimnating shooter and use only what works in the real world.

What's right with Taurus?

How about a tour?
http://www.taurusarmed.net/forums/firing-line/60557-taurus-international-mfg-inc-factory-tour.html

The tour comes to you from two recent gents who took a tour in December of the Taurus facility. Taurus was more than generous to do this.Taurus did not have to do this. They chose to do so.

The forum for Taurus has no connection to the Taurus company in any way. That's a true disclaimer.

they have some nice designs of late. i had a PT709. never malfunctioned, had a trigger that shamed the PF9 and LC9. i traded it for a CM9 because the CM9 is easier to pocket carry... but the CM9 is picky about ammo (i only 100% trust it with fmj or corbon powerball). the PT709 didn't give a rat's arse, fed any JHP design out there.

taurus is working hard to overcome their past rep of spotty QC and crappy customer service. they have fixed both for the most part, and are coming out with nice designs. i wouldn't hesitate to purchase another taurus product.

Nothing wrong with my 709 Slim except that my DH shoots it better than I do. :D

Well, despite its compact size its still too big for me to conceal at work unless I wear a fanny pack and I got tired of busting the zippers on the fanny packs' gun compartments.

I don't know why, but Taurus and Beretta guns almost always fit my hands beautifully. (Sig, Glock, and S&W guns are too big and Rugers are a 50-50 toss up).

The DA trigger on my M85SSUL is the best out of the box DA I've ever felt on a revolver. I LOVE that thing and hardly every shoot it SA even at 25 yards. My 85 and both of my 66s are accurate in the extreme. I've owned a Smith M19, a Rossi 971, and a Ruger Security Six in my search for the perfect 4" medium frame .357 magnum. Above all, I wanted accuracy with .38 AND .357. A 4" Taurus 66 I bought used at a gun show for 197 bucks is the gun I kept. It's 1" at 25 yards accurate from the bench with WC .38s OR 140 grain Speer .357 magnums loaded with 17 grains of 2400. My 3" 66 is only a half inch less accurate matching my M19 for accuracy and besting the other two. So, I love my Taurus wheel guns. :D

The 66 is a medium frame gun like my M19 was. It's a stronger design in that there's enough beef in the frame to allow for a ROUND forcing cone. I had a flat bottom S&W forcing cone split on me once. That's a big deal with me. They also seem to hold up very well to hot loads, or mine have.

I have a 94 .22 revolver, plenty reliable but not a tack-driver as a S&W.
some time back I shot a buddys snubby .38 (blued - mdl 17??) and that one re4ally couls sock 'em in there. it is fixed sights. one of the best .38 snubbys I've ever shot actually if not the best.
if I could afford I'd like to have the interchangeable .22LR/.22WMR model - reminds me of the Hi-Standard 'Sierra(? think it was)' my dad owned.

I happen to like Taurus guns... I've owned probably over 2 dozen and only ever had to send one back to the factory. I've had better luck with Taurus than I have with either Charter Arms or Springfield for that matter.

Three things are absolutely right!

The PT 92, the PT 911 and the PT 1911.
I had the 9mm snubby once, too, but those three guns are amazing guns, especially for the price.

Cracks me up that a fella asks a simple, straight forward and uncluttered question soliciting what should be only positive comments and still gets the folks who woke up this morning looking for something to bitch about posting negative and passively aggressive neutral comments.

Fort my part - what's right?
Price
Availability
Quality relative to price
Customer support (exercised it twice)
Abuseability in that neither the value of the pistols nor their performance has suffered with hard use.

Basically, the half dozen we have are the hammer you don't brag about in your tool box but more often than not - the one you grab rather than the pretty Snap-On or your inherited antiques.

I have only had one Taurus. A PT22.
What's right with it? It looked well made. It's price was right (low). It has a lifetime warranty.

It is currently making use of the lifetime warranty due to several problems which made it unusable.

I do not like that particular design. I had a Baretta Minx (.22 short tip up) that wouldn't feed, eject, or go bang on the first strike in a single mag full. There's no extractor, either, and I don't care for that. Trying different ammo might work on a .22LR version. I've heard they're really picky. But, there just ain't that much available in .22 short. So, I got rid of that thing.

yep.... lets talk about Glock or high end 1911s or 9 vs 45. If you really want to stir people up announce you carry a .380.

carry on

i have the pt 145, tcp 380, pt 22, and the 605 snubby. they all work just fine. i also own many other makes of guns bought new and old. taurus has been good to me. azrn
