I'll second that. There is the Maverick, http://www.maverickarms.com/
but I prefer the trigger and action on my Mossberg 500 20 gauge, with 2 barrels. I call it my mini-riot gun, for small riots.

Who notes the safety sometimes has to be loosened up a bit.

The Maverick 88 is the SKS of shotguns, but only if you cover it with cosmoline then clean it completely.

Side note: "88" is apparently the skinhead not-so-secret code for "heil Hitler". As eknifeworks.com says, "May be offensive to some customers."

BTW I find the 870 safety positioning to be the best, for me.

I'd have to look at a tang safety; I can feel a trigger guard safety button. I don't have to reach for it, either, if I'm hunting and shoulder the gun fast.

I'll quickly chime in...

I have the Mossberg 590 'marinecote' and love it to death. The _only_ complaint I have is it's a little picky about what hulls I use. As long as I reload with Win. AA hulls, all is good. (There's probably other hulls I could use, but I found something that works and works very well...why change?)

Anyway, it's now 3 years old, been treated like a cheap floozie, has no rust and goes boom when I need it to.

Cleaning is optional, but recommended.
