holy thread resurrection batman!!! 2-1/2 years in the making.... lol! i am surely impressed - both by the pistol and especially by the resurrection!

Why aren't those SA revolvers on steroids equipped with a swivel stud so it can take a monopod - preferably one attached to wheels so you can roll it whereever you go. ;)

Oh man, very entertaining, and looks like more than quite a handful to shoot. The gun flying out of your buddy's hands is just classic.

FWIW, I have fired a 50 BMG pistol in Hawaii (downloaded ammo for sure, but it would conceivably shoot the full power stuff).

Anyway, it was a 14 inch chunk of thick walled steel (I think it was a M2HB barrel, not sure). There was a screw on cap to secure the round in the chamber. A long firing pin lay loosely in a hole in the cap, the tip touching the primer of the cartridge. The barrel was welded to a 1911 frame that had a thick "guide rod" extending about 6 inches out in front of the frame to act as a hand hold. The hammer was about 5 inches long, enough to hit the firing pin sticking out of the cap. It was all topped off with a red dot scope welded to the barrel. Single shot, and WHAM! did it kick!!! Fun as hell though :)

I used to have pics, but never developed them and I think I lost the roll :(

?? I'm not quite sure what you mean there but I'm pretty sure that that gun has the .500SW round beat. By a long shot.

Does it matter anymore since rifles-type actions without the buttstock and a barrel slightly less than 16" are considered "pistols"? Technically they are handguns, but a 15 inch barreled 45/70 or 308 is not a handgun to me; it's a rifle without the buttstock.

The PC term is "Specialty Pistol" they can't be a rifle without a buttstock, the BATF says so.
I'm on another board with some fellas who shoot things like 416's and 458's in Encores, and that's got the S&W 500 beat, at least on the recoil end. I wonder if you could chamber an Encore in 50bmg...

No, you can't chamber the Encore in .50BMG because the pressures exceed the Encore's max (at 35,000#). I have Encores chambered in .50-140 Sharps (700gr) and .600 Nitro Express (1040gr), both of which just meet the Encore's max (based on standard reloading guides). Recoil is substantial on the Sharps and immense on the .600.
