Whats YOUR favorite shooting position?

Most shots on game I've taken have been from kneeling or 'seated marine', which I find to be a very stable position.

Shooting with Justin and the gang I've found prone to be the most useful, and I've learned the 'secret' of rollover prone it would seem.

Bench... bipod, monopod, and all lol.

I think my favorite is whatever it is called when you use a wall/tree/beam/etc. to support the front of the rifle. I tend to do very well with that.

hrmmmm........the one where the gun goes "bang!!"?

For just goofing off i like standing/slung up. I miss more like that, but since i like shooting at plates and the smallest one ive got is 6"s, 250yds its not much of a challenge from a solid rest.

while hunging i like to kneel, or sit when i have the chance, but mostly i shoot standing. Hunting lava fields fails in regards to offering many good places to put soft body parts....or scopes and guns. Sighting in i usually shoot off a sandbag tossed on the hood of my Toyota leaning my elbows on the fender.

I like bench with a recoil reducing rest when I am shooting my Mauser, next prone with sandbags or jacket, sitting next, then standing; I completely hate kneeling. I should probably practice that the most then, but I would rather shoot offhand than kneeling as I am more accurate offhand.

I like shooting the most in artillery hold, shoot the best in prone supported and enjoy the most challenge in off-hand.

I will get into what ever position it takes to get the sight picture to steady up. I laid down in the mud with an 1894 Marlin in 44 Mag to shoot a grouse once. Broke it's neck didn't damage a bit of meat.

The rest of that hunt was cold and colder, and I saw nothing else.

Sling prone, using a speed sling. For me this is the best compromise of accuracy, convenience and portability. A bipod or a rucksack rest is a bit of a nuisance.

I would like to be a really fine offhand shot, but I ain't. I enjoy working on it, though.

The improvised field rest positions in Cooper's Art of the Rifle are eminently worth knowing about.

First would be prone; and I would build a rest if possible.
Second would be sitting using my sling.
Third would be kneeling, also using the sling.
Last would be standing offhand again using the sling.
Any time I can use something for support I will.

using my sling[...]also using the sling[...]again using the sling.
Slings are highly under-rated IMO. I see far too many folks without slings on their rifles, or without proper designed or utilized slings (a carry strap is NOT a sling!).

:)

I generally practice the practical positions.

Standing with and without sling.
Sitting (resting arms on shins) with and without sling.

I only shoot off the bench when testing a new load.

Prone with bipod. I use my offhand to support the butt of my gun to keep it the most stable.

Anyone ever tried kneeling bench? Example: if you had a low table and no chair.

Sitting in a partial squat on sloping ground.
It seems very natural, and it often works well in front of the shooting bench from 50 yards.

The day I find a chance to hunt on land in central TX or southern AL, there won't be any bench waiting for a snorting feral pig to walk by.

It will be my first hunt.

Standing... and depending on the application a little squat here and there but I don't bench-shoot as I mostly 'purpose' shoot and it is difficult to find a nice comfy bench in the thick of it...

And ditto on a good sling. wrapped correctly, it is far more effective (for me and mine) than a bi/tri-pod. If you use the sling strictly as a means of carry you are missing out
